Today's endeavors question

I can't be the only person who saw the "kill 5 reptiles" for endeavors and wondered if Argonians counted.

I never thought of that. Nor do I think of Khajiit when it says: Kill 10 beasts. I just can't see those two races as animals.

Well, with Mayhem ongoing and a Golden Pursuit that is also PvP-focused, I think OP's question is reasonable. Sounds like a quest one might pick up from one of the daily Cyrodiil boards.

I'm not sure if argonians are reptiles in the games lore, given they're some kind of plant/animal hybrid, but they do look like reptiles.

But they won't count for the endeavour because each creature only fits into 1 category, which is why things like goblins and giants don't count for 'humanoids' (which actually means playable races), mudcrsbs don't count as animals and so on. Argonians are humanoids, so they can't be reptiles.

Not necessarily. Town NPCs that can be killed are both "citizens" and "humanoids", and generally speaking, "vampires" are going to be "humanoids". Sometimes certain "ghosts" are "humanoids", but some of them (such as the ones that float around) are not.

That being said, I think the intention is that "animal" means any creature that can be killed in one hit, like pigs, squirrels, and deer, while "beasts" are any creature which will fight back. The categorization is sometimes a little too vague, which is where an in-game bestiary would really come in handy.

I’m pretty sure they are reptiles lore-wise, they claim to be shaped from an Ancestor Lizard by the Hist. It’s like how making a pot out of clay still makes it a clay pot.

Friendly reminder this game considers death hoppers (giant frogs) as reptiles. Have a nice day!

They are not, or at least it's much more complicated than that. Argonians have some reptile qualities but they also have qualities of birds, fish, and amphibians. It's believed by some they descend from lizards such as the Ancestor ones, but that's not a sure thing, and even if they were they are not those lizards anymore and have been changed so drastically that Ayleids and others can't even figure out how their bodies work or stay alive. For all we know they can be part plant now.

You know, I think it's a fair path to go down if you play a lot of PvP.

I believe in the last Golden Pursuit there was a "kill x vampires" (I forget how many), but I immediately thought it was a PvP activity and that I had to kill players with vampirism. I later realized that not only were PvP kills advancing the count, but that, oh yea... there are vampire mobs. Duh!!!
