Re: None of these ideas would not solve the core problem on their own, but if all 3 of them were possible, that would be an incredible improvement!

1. Add a keybind to go *backwards* when tabbing to target items. At least this would eliminate having to go through the entire list again if you tabbed past item.

2. Add labels or IDs to objects. For example, in the video, I could've labeled that tree "foreground" or something, so that if I needed to reposition it, at least I'd know which one to grab from Retrieve.

3. Add a native-looking UI button to switch between Mouse and Precision editorshttps://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/671574/housing-ui-please-add-an-easy-way-to-switch-btwn-mouse-vs-keyboard-precision-positioning

RE: RETRIEVE MENU:
This is covered in the video, timestamped and the main posts, linked above:
NOT solutions:
Using Retrieve.

For the reasons shown and explained in the links, and the camera bug: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/658782/housing-editor-placing-items-changes-camera-fov-zoom
So you resort to Retrieve menu... but wait, which Leyawiin Turret were you looking for? Is it the one 61m away, or 62m, or 65 m? (All in the wrong direction from where you're facing since your character got rotated to open the menu.)

[Or cases where 20 of the same item are all the same distance away, because the cobble requires multiple of that same object, so there's no way to differentiate unless you'd like to spend 20 minutes selecting each one individually and deal with the camera bug after.]

Add a keybind to go *backwards* when tabbing to target items.
Afaik this is handled by the game and addons cannot insert such keybind as there is no API function to go backwards.
Unless SHIFT+TAB works to tab backwards? That's a usual combination for combat in some games: TAB = forward, SHIFT+TAB = backwards.

Can't you simply open the list of items, select the "placed" tab there, use the search box to find the item, instead of tabbing through all items in the UI?

Thanks Baertram, I appreciate that you're always around to help, even if some of this can't be done.

P.S. I've checked SHIFT-TAB before (a suggestion someone else made on the OP a year ago) and it didn't work. I will check it again when the servers are back up!

EDIT: checked: SHIFT-TAB just acts like normal TAB, going "forward" in the lineup.

This was preemptively answered in the linked posts, and video (timestamped below), and #2 in OP is a solution that would partially help with the problems with Retrieve.

This is always asked so I edited the OP to make this clearer.

Thanks for your kind words, I give my best :D
And forgive me that I did not watch the video in total, I somehow dislike watching videos when I can read things. More convenient (less time consuming imho).
Videos help for sure so that's a good thing to add. I'm just not that deep into housing myself.

    >since your character got rotated to open the menu
You can use this simple addon "Dizzy" to prevent the character rotation upon menu open:
    https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info4021-Dizzy.html#info
But it "may" break item preview -> You need to test that

So if it does this try the addon "Perfect Pixel" instead, we added some fixes for the item preview there.
It provides such a setting (player spin stop) too, but downside (or maybe not? maybe you like it) also changes the total UI of ESO to something more modern:
    https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info2103-PerfectPixel.html

It does not touch the housing UI so maybe you can enable it for housing to stop the spinning of the player as menus open AND have item preview work.
And as you leave housing you can disable it again.

I'm usign Addon Selector to save my addons as packs. I also added keybinds there so you can load the packs via keybinds easily, or use a chat command like /asl <packname>
That way switching enabled addons is getting easier (at least to me).

I understand you and agree SO MUCH!!
Even *making* the video is so time-consuming, but I did it in hopes it'd be easier and quicker than re-explaining what the heck I'm talking about with the tabbing. Anyway, it's all there in writing in the posts too!
    Dizzy
I will definitely check this out! I currently use an option in "No, Thank You!" that does this for me on a keybind with inventory, but it doesn't work for some menus like Housing & others. (Yes even the option in NTY breaks item preview but since I have it keybound it's ok, I just turn it back on for that)
    Perfect Pixel
Not for me, I prefer the default UI look

The thing is the spinning or lack thereof wouldn't solve the main problems, which is really that either way – Tab (usually fastest, but physical strain) or Retrieve (clunky, bugged) – take a ton of actions and time just to find and select the right item, multiplied by the dozens on every project. The fact that it's not possible to switch between Editor type or tab backwards just adds to that.

I feel you, I always wonder why games do not "from the scratch" add such simple things like forwards and backwards selection.
~90% do, but ESO often lacks such very simple QOL features.

I'd recommand to raise a /bug ingame and ask for that.
The more do, the more likley they might consider it (hopefully).
