No doubt, but the time between the aoe showing up and the clannfear jumping is pretty short. Its more of a nuisance than a danger, kind of like the nix hounds and kotu gave

I believe it is 3 seconds. See the telegraph, count to three, block. Sadly, it only works on one of them. If there are two, the other one can get to you and do unthinkable things.

It may say its 3 seconds, but its definitely not 3 seconds on PS NA between the AOE appearing and the jump. Again, 99% of the time its not a problem. Only time its a real annoyance is when there are multiple clannfears

What do they do? I'm confused. As far as I can tell, Clannfear are one of those animalistic daedra. They don't have higher intelligence, they are more like dogs.

Except, unlike doggies, instead of jumping on you to lick your face and show you love, they jump on you to bite your face and try to eat you. :#

The other secret is to dodge role as soon as you see the red landing area. This way, you will not be there when the clanfear lands cause it can't change where it's target is in mid air

I approve of the Clannfear leaping and neck chewing. It's adorable to witness. One of my favorite little monsters, so I like using the Shadowrend set on my Nightblade or Sorcerer tank to have one skulking about.

I dodge roll forward as soon as I see the target circle which will also avoids the knock down.

Edit: It also works for when you have multiple clannfears.

This is why I don’t accept the argument that the citizens of Tamriel are okay with sorcerers summoning Daedric pets.

No normal citizen would have ever encountered them in any way other than what OP described. They would run away in fear every time they saw one.

There's ones doing small tasks for Mage's Guild members. IMO, those are the ones that most regular people would see as hostile Daedra in town are not common.
