How do you feel about class-oriented quests?

I know new players are already bombarded with so many quests, but it could be an interesting way to learn some lore about your class and maybe get a bit more info about the different versions of your skills. And *wink wink nudge nudge* it could be a fun way to add some class-specific rewards like new skins for the pets? :wink:

    I enjoyed the class stories in swtor, but I'm not sure if such a system would fit eso.

    Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

    I'm not sure how I feel about this. WoW had class quests and class halls and class specific gear, but something like that may not work well with ESO.

    How would this work? Would it just be quests or would there be some of these other features, too?

    It might be fine, or it might not - I think it's the kind of questing that needs to be done right or not at all. So it would be totally dependent on how well the devs put it together.

    Yeah, no idea how it would work, so I'm kinda on the same page as everyone here so far. It could work; it could not. I would def prefer QoL improvements over this for the time being, but if they could figure something out in the future, it feel it could potentially be pretty awesome.

    Admittedly, I haven't really gotten into other MMOs. What do these quests/systems look like elsewhere? And does anyone have any idea how it could translate to ESO?

    I swtor every class had it's own base game story (different starting zones included), so you got a new story, zones and quests on top of the shared ones with every new class you started playing. Think of it like eso hadn't a shared mainquest (the prophet's) for all characters, but a different one for every toon.

    I have no idea how it would be possible to implement something like that in a already running game tho.

    How long before "nerf sorc class rewards!", "buff templar class rewards!", "NB class rewards are OP!", "I don't want to play a necro, but I want the pet!"... "what happened to 'play the way you want'?", "this breaks PvE/PvP (delete as appropriate) balance!".

    Hmmm. I feel like maybeeee the tutorial (the present one in my humble onion is a bit ... lackluster), but then, existing characters would miss out and veteran players would never touch it lol. Hmmm. Yeah def kinda of hard in an existing game. Maybe in another alternate universe... :persevere:

    Oh, I suspect this would happen in the PTS! :lol:

    Also, I wouldn't want the rewards to be anything other than cosmetic (probably ... balancing is already a hot mess for the devs to deal with as is) cause that's a whole other can of worms as you said.

    I've asked for something similar before. I thought class oriented quests or guilds would be cool.

    Yes, please. We already have quests themed around necromancy*, illusion, sword singing, tonal architecture, Druidic/wyrd magic, thaumavocalism, arcanism and one of the Eleven Forces acknowledged by the Psijic Order.

    Let’s more of that, but explaining the distinctive magic that our player characters and companions use.


    *While there are a lot of necromancy themed quests, they don’t offer much explanation for the spells we have as players. I think that one of the Reach tribes in Rift was doing something that resembled living death.

    Whereas Azandar explicitly experiments with fate magic as an arcanist.

    I like to quest with my friends. So, quests about Templar lore or helping a Templar dig into the past would be welcome. Quests that only Templars could see? Seems like a bummer if my friend is, say, a Warden.

    In general I'm not a fan of content that forces you to be solo or grouped. I like it when you can play how you like and the game doesn't lock down settings so you can be creative. Quest solo or in groups. Enter a dungeon solo or in groups. While I like the companion quest stories, they annoy me from the perspective that I must find time to do them when I'm not playing with friends because we can't do them together. I don't want more of that.
    My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

    It sounds good, but I wonder how they would approach some of the classes. IIRC, Dragonknights were once called Imperial Dragonknights. Would they force your character to have ties to the Empire? That doesn't really make sense for some races. Or what about Templars. Apparently they are generally connected with Stendarr, but what if your character has a different preferred Aedra, like for example Auri-El, who is also associated with the sun and light magic? It could kill a bit of your role-playing freedom if they forced these things on you.

    I agree with this. I don't play my NB as stealth assassin, but I bet this is the flavour they would give a NB class story. Would not be interesting for me if it turns out that way.

    In 14 You do alot of job quest/role. In Eso there isn´t any clear cut specialized role, so class quests would be as close you can get to that - specialized kind of thing.

    I would welcome it, if it include a learning process - learning your class. It could also lead into specific role quests - learning a role task.

    I'd like if they could tie them into the companion quests. I don't have or want a ton of alts so it would be cool if as part of their leveling, the companions could give a preview of how a class works.

    I've no problem with the idea but share some of the concerns about how it would be implemented. If each class can do each role, how would the class quests deal with that? Speaking of roles. . . .

    I'd quite like to see some 'role' quests or even role specific ways of handling quests. Most every existing quest in the game is designed for DPS players. There are a few 'escort' quests but even these require you to do the killing (not just the tank/protecting part). None or almost none of the quests support a healer though. As a real healer, I do get tired of encountering some injured NPC and my quest is to go kill things and gather ingredients so they can make a healing potion or poultice. . . whereas my healer prides herself on the ability to instantly heal someone with her hard-earned healing skill. The closest the game seems to currently get to that is when you sometimes get a choice whether you want a ranged, melee or healing temporary follower.

    I don't think it would work.

    SWTOR's system for it was awesome but, it also wasn't really financially sustainable.

    The thing is, every time you make a class quest only that class gets to do it which means many of the players will never benefit from it.

    As a result, without an absolutely massive player base it quickly becomes of questionable financial viability.

    You also run into the issue that what players want from the classes also doesn't necessarily align.

    For example, I used to primarily play Warden's because the class was easy to play in an open ended fashion. You have other players that like Warden's because they like the idea of killing things with Ice and still others that like it due to it's associations with nature ect.

    Creating content that all of us would like could provide to be challenging.

    SWTOR somewhat mitigated that problem by having situations where players could make choices but, again this raises the cost of development and it didn't fully work.

    Further, in ESO it could also come across as a bit contrived how only a certain class could do a thing or it might clash with character identity.

    For example, most of my Nightblades were intended to be sneaky characters that are mostly mundane. Doing class quests that are exclusive to my class because you need shadow magic to do them might clash a bit.

    I don't know if it would be a good idea really, classes in this game work a little differently from other MMOs, and instead have a semi Elder Scrolls vibe to them (i said "semi" cause in singleplayer Elder Scrolls games classes are merely a starting point for your character advancement, so they're pretty much referential rather than effective).
    What i mean is, classes in this game are less specific and more about a theme, obviously different classes excel in different playstyles.
    For example, you could say that a Nightblade is an assassin class, and as a matter of fact can be easily played as an assassin with a Ganker build in PvP, yet it can be played as a Brawler, Healer or Tank too

    With that said, the game gives you a bit of lore on the classes in the character creator but i see it just as an explaination of what you should expect by picking a certain one
