What is templar?

In pvp, I've tried many builds on templar. Thought up some great ones. Thought certain class passives and abilities on templar would make the set combo pull out it's best use. That it would be dependent on templar.

Then I put it on NB and DK and they outshine templar every single time.

The saddest moment is when I happened upon another templar and they did absolutely nothing to me. Wet noodle jabs, Purifying light that can be cleansed off, sorry healing, etc. He will now be sent to zergs waiting for the moment to shoot the ray on low healthed targets when they start to run from the zerg.

Templar is the only class I have to sacrifice one thing for the other. NB and DK for me, doesn't have that problem.

I know some people might still like that passive where it gives 10% critical damage done when you have a aedric spear ability. However that is nonsense to me. Considering there is real way to increase crit where it becomes noticable. Unless you shoehorn in certain sets.

57%, is when critical becomes fully reliable for both damage and healing. There is no noticable difference between 33% and 47%. For some reason burst heals still won't crit more often unless you hit it in the upper 50s%.

NB has no problem doing this and so they are a better healer than templar. In fact I consider them now the Dark Templar.

The conversion was simple

Jabs = Surprise Attack
Templar Ray= Killer Blade
Honor the Dead = Healthy Offering
PoTL = Merciless Resolve

Cloak is the thing that makes the NB class their own thing. Also I can play it just like templar and cloak, have high crit and high damage at no sacrifice like the templar.

The only reason why any one would play templar is if they want to make an OP build for other classes. Other than that, you must love nerfing yourself in pvp.

DK is just too amazing. The build I moved from my templar to it, all of its passives and skills adapted to it and made it stronger. None of the sacrifices I made for templar was needed on DK.

For those that still play templar in pvp how do you stay relevant? How does it feel to know that build probably works better on another class?

Is that what templar class is? The generic template for which all other classes are built from?

    I think all the PvP Templars play NoProc/NoCP.
    With good sets like Deadly Strike, Order's Wrath or War Maiden, you can make a decent build around your beam.
    If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

    Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

    Agree, I also see some in BGs, which makes sense with the no CP.

    Templar is just another example of what happens when a class becomes "too successful" in PVP, which then wrecked a lot of their utility in PVE. But everything is cyclical, so maybe in a year or two they will be strong again. DKs, Wardens, Sorcs, and Nightblades have been through this rotation already. Now its the Templars and Necros turn. Hopefully, they come out on the other side like DKs and not Sorcs.

    Hate to be that guy but at this stage if you're not running vatershran staff and dw then are you even pvping ?

    Templar is a class that lacks cohesive skill lines, passives, and abilities. Playing Templar doesn't feel fluid at all.

    They are forced into holding block with a sword and shield or ice staff and layering 4 heals just to attempt to engage for a few seconds to deal ultimately mediocre damage.

    Disappointing

    In a nutshell Templar is a weak melee soup with a sprinkling of healing skills on top that was left to burn and then go cold

    PvP needs an entire overhaul, where it gets its seperate sets and is completely seperated from PvE.

    A whole different game mode, that's what we need.
    That Civil War roleplay is so 2014.
