If Combat Was Removed Entirely, Would You Still Play?

It seems ESO becomes more casual and Animal Crossing like each year. The majority of the game does not require any substantial combat whatsoever (housing, fishing, crafting, scrying, exploring, gathering resources, trading, Tales of Tribute, the list goes on). Would you still play the game if there was no combat required at all?

In this scenario, imagine that all quests would remain in the game, you just wouldn’t have to engage in combat.

A better question to ask would be something like..

"If Zos made an Animal Crossing/Stardew Valley/Cosy Grove style game set in the Elder Scrolls world, would you play it?"

    Which I absolutely would.

Yes, there are lots of stuff in this game that isn't combat related, but that makes it a richer, more involved game. If I only wanted a game that was all combat and nothing else, I'd play a different game.

Considering combat is the thing I enjoy least in every MMORPG... yes, of course, I'd still play.

To me combat in MMORPGs is a necessary evil, not the main focus.

I don't know of any RPG that does not involve some kind of fighting.
Housing etc. per se don't require fighting, but you still need resources (gold/exp/mats) that do require fighting, so this poll is completely pointless.

Well they actually did make a game like this. It officially released in 2014 for PC and 2015 for consoles, it just had a lot of unneeded features (like PvP) and not enough relaxing/solo content. I think it will be fully complete by 2025 or so. Soon.

Although I also enjoy games without any combat in it (I very much enjoy building cities for example), I surely wouldn't play a game whose entire design was around combat when I first decided to give it a try.

As much as I appreciate the evolvement of eso for example by housing, Tot and other non-combat related systems and endorse the implementation of content for different playstyles, I see absolutely no reason to destroy the enjoyment of people, which actually care for the combat system, just to do a kneeling before some grumpy casuals which can't stand that not every shiny is intended for them

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

The combat is the part I enjoy the most-- running around fighting enemies; killing world bosses; soloing delves, dungeons, and public dungeons; even participating in AvA PvP in Cyrodiil despite not being much good at it. I'd probably still play the game if all combat were removed, but I'd probably play it a lot less. :(

Yes. Personally, I get bored of having to fight almost everything I see. It's nice when a quest comes along where you don't need to. I'd start adding puzzles if I was reducing combat, however.

I already skip a lot of combat, after several nerfs over the years making combat less and less interesting. It started by removing crystal blast from sorcerers, went on by adding mythics (I hate scrying so have no oakensoul), and culminated in U35 destroying most of my builds on 72 characters.

I meanwhile often just roam around trying to find any sidequests I missed in the past, or hanging around Illuvamir dolmen, watching other players, collecting some mats.

I certainly would play less though, as I still engage a little combat, like dolmens or daily worldbosses.

For a short moment I would play even more, exploring regions I currently skip, like trials and some dungeons.

Being brutality honest, combat system in ESO is the weakest part of the game. It was changed way too many times and the concept of "zero cooldown" with "animation canceling" is flawed since day one. I never understood why it is a thing. I guess the intention was to make the combat feel more "dynamic", but the result is that combat feels "glitchy".

In many other games interrupting one animation with other action that has shorter animation so that you can perform more actions than intended is considered an exploit that can result with a ban lol.

I didn't vote because it depends...

If combat was replaced by puzzles and needing to sneak past enemies then I probably would continue to play because I spend most of my time here playing solo. I like a challenge but it doesn't have to be fights.
That said, a combination of combat, sneaking and puzzles would be far more to my liking.

If combat was simply removed, then I'd have to add up the time and money I've already invested and consider if playing a game with a gaping hole in it and no group content was worth while.
I'm not sure I would play in that case, but if there was nothing decent to move onto, I'd probably stay.

@OP - Maybe I'm reading you wrong but it sounds like you've a bit of an issue with the non-combat aspects of the game and feel that catering to players who don't play primarily for combat is somehow taking things away from you or watering down the game.
Most MMO's I've played have fairly easy combat for the overland and story, that makes sense as companies want a lot of customers to enjoy the game and stick around. Pegging combat too high is going to turn a lot of people away. WoW tried upping the difficulty in WoD and being dismounted and aggro'd by every single mob wasn't an enjoyable challenge, it was just annoying.

Personally, I like hard fights, but I also like decent stories, involved crafting systems, fishing, running around looking at virtual sunsets and picking virtual flowers. To me, that mix is what makes a decent MMO.
I have some friends who only raid, others who only PVP and some who mainly want to decorate their houses and hang out, that's cool. The beauty of a game like this is no matter what your play-style, you probably have years of content before you start feeling bored or that the new things are just more of the same re-hashed with a new coat of paint. Obviously if you just enjoy one aspect of the game you'll get bored quicker.
For example, I might never play ToT, but I'm still glad it's there because one day when I've nothing else I want to do, I might pick it up.

Group play / combat is the reason I play ESO. I literally refer to my gaming hobby as "killing things" as it amuses me. Everything else is somewhere between icing and filler but the combat is the cake.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

It's bannable here all the same, you can't "speed up" abilities or perform "more actions" here without external means. The game is just balanced around actual gcd's and not varying flavour animations lengths that came after it's already triggered, so it's not the same canceling that can get you banned by any means.

So in quests that involve combat, maybe you walk up to the enemy, press a button, and it instantly dies. If you think about it, since the developers refuse to make overland more difficult, we are already close to this!
