Mount training, do you like it as it is right now?

Thanks to the OP for giving straight options without showing bias or attempting humour in their wording.

I'm fine with the present mount training, it's better than it used to be and as I'm not bedevilled by any sense of urgency in the way I play the game I'm happy with progressing my various characters gradually over time. So many aspects of this game (and other MMOS) have been trivialised over the years, which I greatly regret.

I like mount training and legerdemain because they skill up slowly, especially the 1 upgrade per day of the mount training BUT the 1st speed levels of the mount training are a nightmare, it looks like you go faster by running, so I tend to "prepare" the new character doing only the mount speed upgrade for a few weeks then start actually playing it when the horse speed is acceptable.

you do in fact sprint faster than a mount when the mount is not upgraded

i think you need to get the mount to at least 20 pts in speed to even match base sprinting (so about 3 weeks of mount training to even start passing base sprint)

if you do something as simple as sprinting + ring of the wild hunt + major expedition, your basically already sitting at the normal unmounted movement speed cap, and the only way to get the mount faster than that is basically maxed speed + major gallop from the alliance war passive (as mounted speed can exceed the unmounted speed cap)

Mount training should not have a time gate. I want to be able to blow 45 000 gold immediately and get the horse maxed. There are even these other horses in the stables that used to be able to let you do just that, but now they are just skins for your horse. The riding skill used to be tied to your mount and you'd have to feed your mount apples to increase its speed and such.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

Ah, don’t remind me. My excitement over the new class just took a dive at the thought of mount training.

why do you think those who aren't excited over the new class aren't excited about it?
Like if we could just already have the mount training done, already have skyshards, already has crafting done and traits trained.. then sure, people would enjoy a new class, like if we could class change an older character we don't play anymore.

But we can't. new class means new character and all the associated drudgery of mount training and crafting grind, and guild skill lines etc. Stuff we've done on multiple characters already.

Not 3 weeks, more like 3 hours if that.

You just need level 10 and then the Cyrodiil siege weapon tutorial and you have +20% all the time.

its probably still even easier to just get major expedition, then running is still superior until you do mount training

the adept rider set comes with both major expedition and major gallop as passives which you could craft at lvl 1, and because your getting both gallop and expedition, it still also makes running superior until you get mount training lol

Tentatively, yes, but it depends on the alternative. I probably wouldn't spend gold on it, because when I was a new player things were expensive enough. That's generally the case in an MMO, but I remember being pleasantly surprised that it wasn't the same as the pack merchant or bank. If the reset were just cut in half or we could level all three attributes daily, I'd be in favor, but I'm not particularly unhappy with the system as it stands.

If they had not made the change to let you get speed from your Cyrodiil training, I would have voted No, but that provides enough to get by while you level up other things.

I would like Undaunted to level faster just doing dailies, and trait research to be faster, and a lot of other impatience beyond those. But I can live with it.

It really is excessive and alt-unfriendly in an otherwise moderate and alt-friendly game. The only other thing in the game that is time-gated to a similar extent is the crafting trait research.

They should at the very least cut the time down to 1/3 by allowing training all 3 every day.

On my main it was just a daily chore. On my second and third, an inconvenience but I have 4 main classes now ( with 5th coming) and 3 other just for fun. It's becoming tedious a bit.
Would be nice to have it "account wide".

I still remember before ESO released on PC, information was being released weekly about the game and the way the developers described the system was that you would grow attached to your mounts, that you would feed them certain foods to grow certain stats…

Yet we ended up with an artificial delay on mount progression, and zero mount attachment. People were expecting to have their very own Roach and got a generic “Sorrel Horse.” lol

Edit: Which was 10,000 gold to purchase at a time when you were lucky to get 3 gold from killing a boss.

As someone with 18 maxed trained characters, who has deleted maxed trained characters before, and who will probably delete another one in June if there is no class change token, I know the following: It only takes 60 days to max speed. And while infinite sprint was patched out, uncool, the rate stamina burns now is ridiculously low. Seriously, my maxed character can ride across Craglorn on one tank, Domus Phrasticus to Fearfangs Cavern

Also, while the system predates riding lessons, they are the reason it's not likely to go away. So if you want to minimize the pain point without resorting to the crown store, I recommend the following: 20 into speed, 10-20 into stamina, then max in this order speed>stamina>inventory. Assuming it will take a new player a couple months to become proficient, or to learn a new class, you should have a usuable mount by then. Make sure to level up to 50 for any free lesson rewards, and if you're not saving them up, you can get a few more free lessons spending seals of endeavors.

Heh. I'm sure (as the poll shows) I'm in the minority but...

I remember mount training before mount training was revamped the first time. When it was, truly, ridiculous.

I also remember when I didn't feel like I was missing out on a reward I might never see again if I couldn't log in every day (pre-daily login reward days).

I much, much prefer mount training as a gentle incentive to log in to the daily login rewards, which I think should also be sent to you if you log a certain amount of time in game regardless of how many days you log in... at least the unique rewards. This is because...

You can log in every day to train your mount. Or you can buy mount boosts in the Crown Store which you can also technically get with gold by trading Crowns and gold. Or people can gift them to you. If you don't log in one day, all that happens is you need one more day to level your mount. It's an incentive to log in every day without adding FOMO to it, and there are alternate options /choices to skip ahead with both gold and crowns. AND, there is an end to to it to work towards!

The mount training seems old-fashioned only if you are conditioned and motivated by the daily log in rewards, at which point the mount training seems redundant. I would argue that mount training is less intrusive and manipulative overall, compared to the login rewards and flash Crown Store sales, but that a mount training overhaul, if done, should be paired with a trait research overhaul, which is built on similar principles, and be combined with my suggestion to enhance daily login rewards. ;) So that we are rewarded for playing and have reduced barriers to play no matter what our play schedule is.

The only place where I feel mount training is excessively punishing is Cyrodiil, where the distances are so long and new players who prefer PvP could get frustrated as it would take leveling both speed and stamina to be able to participate normally along with everyone else. I'd like to see this handled by battle spirit, instead, since the storage training is kind of separate and doesn't impact ability to play along. In other words, in Cyro everyone gets max speed and sprint for their mounts regardless of where the mount training is.

Also I'd rather see more green CP slottables, so I can keep the mount speed slotted alongside other things, than this being changed.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

Honestly, having to train your mount on speed, stamina and capacity is annoying but I like the training aspect, sorta, since it offers a little immersion, something this game really lacks. However, I'd gladly throw down a ton of in-game gold to train my mount at a faster rate per day. Something that might also work well as gold-sink. 180 days to max out my ride is ridiculous.

So you are saying new players should ease in by just logging in and leveling speed before even testing if they even want a new character/class at all? That's so backwards. It means that the mount stats are too little in the start for anyone to even enjoy starting new characters.

I'd split the difference and say that each stat should be upgradable only 30 times, and each increase is a 2% boost, or at least riding speed starts out at the equivalent of 30%, and increases in 0.5% increments instead. Like--speed is the only training my husband and I hate about new character creation. We want to travel to quest together but I am always further behind him because I don't have as much Champion points, nor do I log in everyday to do horse training. His gallop is faster than my sprint!

I don't like how mount training is but I see it as another MMO thing to waste time. Do I see it changing? No it being a MMO time sink and ZOS having stuff you can buy to shorten it off the crown store for me tells me it's not going to change.

I basically park my character at a stable and do nothing but level mount speed for a couple of months before I even do anything else with the character except maybe go to a crafting table to decon stuff to start leveling that.

It would be nice if they tweaked this as part of their 'QoL' improvements, but I doubt it for the simple fact.. 'upgrades are sold in the Crown Store'. Why make it easier for people to upgrade in game when there are sales opportunities for ZOS?!?

I wish they'd make it so we could upgrade all three traits per day instead of just one. Or, put it on a 12-hour schedule instead of 24.

I hate it. It's part of the reason why I don't play my alts much. I refuse to support their bad practices in the crown store. Just change it to 3 upgrades a day or something. 1 per day is just painful.
