[Opinion] The new Customized Actions are disappointing

Not only are they gem exclusives, but you can only have one active at a time. You won’t be able to fully customize your character with a theme, even if there were enough.

Adding customised actions is just another step on the game's over reliance in the Store when so many of these items could be integrated into the game to give us incentive to play and enjoy it, i.e lock a costume behind an obscure achievement. And that revenue is not going back to the game's development. We can see that in play at the moment.

Player retention and more engaging gameplay means providing incentives, meaning customised actions could have been a feature of future content as unlockables for doing content. So yes, I think it should be booed.

I disagree personally. I think the game is full of free unlockables and give more than enough incentive to play and enjoy. There are like 30 free costumes attainable via achievements, dailies, fragments, zone quests, museum collections, antiquities. A vast majority of these unlockables are buried in the game though (PvP Proofs, Public Dungeon Fragments, Antiquities Leads, Holiday events). I think most players don't even know they exist, and even more sadly, just purchase the items for gold.

    Could they improve? Of course.

I would LOVE to see more earnable Mounts like the Ebon Dwarven Wolf. HOWEVER, it seems like ZOS has decided (subtly) to gate "free" mounts behind holiday events, collection bundles, and Endeavors (probably because these can also be bought outright for Crowns?...). I am happy they brought back the Indrik Vendor this year and I hope they keep that up!

And on the topic of Customized Actions! I would have liked to see a hand full released for free as part of a Chapter release! Firesong would have been a good chapter to release like 3 Customized Actions, Druidic themed, earnable via zone quests and achievements. Then, they could have also released 4 others in the Crown store.... alas, they didn't do that.

I don't think it is as bad as I think most players want to paint it. However, they could certainly improve with just a couple minor, better decisions.

Personally I like them, as they aren't that intrusive/attention seeking. While I do like my mounts that way, gameplay actions should not be like that, as we often perform those actions.

I don't mind the new color filters, give me a plant picker blue bird, blue recall.

just don't make me wait years for it. it's so annoying tbh.

You can have more than one active. I have both active on all my characters currently.

I like the recolor of the recall. I don't have much else that I'd be willing to spend my SoE on anyway, so I might as well grind for that. At least it's something that I'd use.

INSTEAD! What about reusing and combining emotes, mementos, and furnishing effects to make a new "Customized Action"? This is cheap too because it reuses animations... but by combining them, you create something new and interesting.

The crown store saturation and pushing will be what will kill this game's playerbase. Not the updates. I am so tired of all these cool things locked behind a paywall and rng as well. Give me more things to want to play and earn beside armor styles.

They could've just copied the animation that mage npc's do after they win a duel (random encounters). The one where they spawn a bright portal and enter in it l0l

I disagree because I think what will kill the game is a 1-2 punch: meh content + over monetization focus. I think we are feeling it now.

The content has been sub-par. I don't think High Isle was that interesting for most players. Tales of Tribute had mixed reviews (personally, I think it was a flawed decision from the drawing board, but I digress). ESO has been in a slump mechanically for over a year now.

Meanwhile, the crown store keeps pumping out "content". Now, I'm not an idiot; monetization is necessary. I personally am 100% for cosmetic monetization. I want the game to make money so that it gets further developement! This is a reason why I loved Customized Actions when they were announced. I thought it was a great new, cosmetic monetization. It wasn't just flashier mounts or MORE motifs, it was something NEW! [snip]

However, the game isn't dying or dead. It's in a bad way, but it's totally salvageable. They need to start making smart decisions. Start connecting core gameplay content together and stop the system bloat. The game needs to be tightened up, pulled together. There is SOOO much that is being neglected and left flapping in the wind while they have been off in Mythic/Companion/Quest land pumping out the same old stuff.

Personally, I am putting it all on the next release. If we get another High Isle 2.0 or refresh servers or some minor stupid thing, I'm out. Really. This is it. I'm done. I've done everything worth doing in this game. PvP is stale. New mythics aren't going to save it. It isn't about new sets or more quests. It's about real content. I'm actually hopeful based on Matt Firor's letter! It SOUNDS like they are doing exactly what I think ESO needs: good, repeatable content and less story. We have enough quests and story for now.

All we can do is pray they don't [snip] it up. TBH, I post things on the forums in the smallest hope that my feedback and ideas get to developers to help them course correct. It doesn't seem that hard from my perspective. Just smarter choices.

THIS is the type of action customization that I would like to see! I am partial to nature-themed magic so the Galen Wilds Recall only being green but otherwise identical (no swirling leaves or alternate animation) was disappointing.

Having played ESO for years (2180 CP) my priority is on reducing repetitive grind time over "eye candy".
"Customizable Actions" is disappointing eye candy but assistants like Giladil the Ragpicker more than make up for any disappointment.
I hope ESO continues to come out with more useful assistants.

    ZOS is king of reskins.
Personally, I dislike that feature in general because I don't like abundance of flashy stuff already in game. Also the price is ridiculous.

I got the recall/port animation in a crate and I do like having on my nature-themed character. I would have really loved to disappear in a swirl of leaves (that I would have bought), but maybe that would be too much and not to everyone’s liking — the balance between too distinctive/specific/flashy to appeal to everyone and too bland to appeal to anyone?

I really like the idea of Customized Actions! I think it's a great, new way to monetize the game in fun, thematic way! Say what you want about monetization, but it IS necessary and the more cosmetic the monetization, the better, as long as it's kept Elderscrolls thematic imo

HOWEVER, Recall of the Galen Wilds ...
    9n9jxdbty3w1.gif4dbu045f9glq.gif

This isn't a customized action, it's a color filter... [snip] This new Customized Action feature is a brand new concept ZOS is trying to sell to us! Recall of the Galen Wilds is supposed to be a poster child for the possibilities of this new monetization has! And they're COMPLETELY phoning it in on this one!

    [edited for bashing]

It's like they didn't even trying...just switched texture color to green and voila :(
There is so many things they could've done for customization, like combat animation packs, skins for class pets, skins for vampire\werewolf, new vfx for spells even, but I see how they handled 'Customized Action' feature and idk, all hopes goes down the toilet...

I think I see what you guys did here! While we’re all thinking of wardens and druids and where are the leaves? This green effect should also work nice with arcanist. ;)

Of course I would love even more swirling leaves for my bosmer ranger and some runes for my arcanist! But I will definitely utilize this effect on several characters to come.
