Yeah, that is definitely NOT true. Now, I am not sure it is worth running out to harvest every time you get a survey, but once they pile up a bit, they are an extremely efficient method of gathering resources. @tmbrinks could probably give better info here, but if I had to guess, the value of the surveys goes: Jewelry>Cloth>Blacksmith>wood or alchemy>Enchanting. Admittedly, alchemy is probably the one I am least comfortable valuing, but I dont think its at the top.
When I did about half of my survey stash last summer, I got a hefty pile of gold mats and lots of refined mats for either making gear or doing more writs.

Using the data I've collected for years, with prices as of this week on PC/NA. The approximate values of each survey is (after the materials being refined, if relevant)
Jewelry Survey ~ 65k gold
Clothing Survey ~ 53k gold
Blacksmithing Survey ~ 21k gold
Woodworking Survey ~ 10k gold
Alchemy is dependent on how much you want to "reset" the node. But getting all Columbine/Corn Flower would be about ~ 25-30k gold. w/o resetting it's probably in the 15-20k range
Enchanting is behind at ~ 3.5k gold

I don't use Enchanting surveys, so I don't know their drop rate.I'm just used to farm runestones (15 mins round), and get a fair amount of kutas and mundane stones on a daily basis. There are several areas with loads of runestones so it's really easy to do. It seems to me easier than the surveys.

So what you are saying is that is that I am sitting at around 300 Million of gold with my 8K surveys?

I concede the point to someone who did the math!
