The companion dialogue itself doesn't bother me at all.

I play with subtitles on, so it is easier to see who says what when questing. But what does bother me is that companion dialogue constantly pushes away quest dialog. Companions their dialogue should not be subtitled, atleast not their regular repeating lines. For their quests it's fine though.

I don't use Mirri at all, because I feel unwell with her. I cannot explain why rationally... :D

However, to be honest, I also don't use any pets, any mini pets and Bastian sporadically when I really need him. Generally, I don't like to have "whatever" sticking to me like glue everywhere I go. It very rapidly bothers me, badly. >:)
I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA

I'm the same way about pets and other things following me around. I find it very irritating. My Sorcerer doesn't even use any of her pets for that reason.

I do keep Bastian out though because I've turned him into a tank and am raising his heavy armor and sword and board skills atm. Surprisingly he really holds his own when I'm soloing dungeons or world Bosses.

I am disturbed by both, as they are evil to the core. Mirri just says something about "most people don't like Sithis but to me it feels like home or somesuch, but Bastian is far worse - "I love Sithis" he says every so often - and in combat he hails a demon-godess from Buffy: "For Glory!"

They aren't saying "Sithis!" They are saying "Cities!" LOL!

They say it when you enter the big cities.

I once thought I heard Bastian say "I like Vampires" but it turns out he really said "I like campfires".

I always have the subtitles on so I don’t miss what npcs say. I don’t always play with headphones on or have the sound turned up.

The last time I stopped by your castle in Doomchar, I noticed someone had left this letter for you near the entrance...

    "Dear SilverBride,

I haven’t heard from you in some time. Is there a problem, sera? Something you need to discuss? If you want to take a break, I won’t complain. But now you’ve got me worried. Traveling with you has been the highlight of my life. I hope you feel the same. Or, at least don’t mind too much.

While I’m waiting for our next adventure together, I’m just taking a load off at the inn here in Davon’s Watch, enjoying some of the local fare. Some people don’t like the bustle of cities, but I come from a big family so it reminds me of home.

Oh, Mom and Dad give their best. Mom’s planning her next adventure, while Dad’s just worrying who is going to do the housework while Mom’s away. Hopefully, you’ll need me soon so it won’t be me! After all those things I’ve helped you with, it’s time for you to help me with something!

I really want to get out and travel again soon. It’ll be good to get away from the family a bit. And I do love seeing so much of Tamriel. I wish less of it was trying to kill me, but a least it makes life interesting. Traveling with you isn’t a tour, it’s a tale! I still remember that time we faced a Dragon. A fetching Dragon! Really? Why did it have to be a Dragon? All I can remember is thinking, “Please don’t fetching get me killed.” But Mom really loved her Dragon skin rug, and Dragon slayer does have a nice ring to it. We couldn’t leave that walking around wreaking havoc, right? And you were like a legend of Vehk! It was a slaughter Dagon would envy.

I’m still here. Thanks for asking. You know, I like to think I’m agreeable. So, what’s going on in that head of yours? Dunmer are long lived, but we can die of boredom. I never had too many friends. I like think I can count you among them. Quality over quantity. Gods, am I that awkward? I know I’m not great at expressing my feelings, but there’s no need for doubt. I can’t think of anyone I’m closer to, even my family.

    Regards,

    Your Mirri"

Wow, and here I thought I was the only one who couldn't stand Mirri's dialogue to the point of "firing" her. I did that too shortly after acquiring her. Her guilt-tripping me got to be so annoying...

But maybe I'll try Bastion, I solo a lot and it was nice to have a companion.

I still think my favorite Mirri interaction she had with an NPC was "Well, don't cry to your mommy." after a generic quest boss NPC was done with their monologue about killing you. It was so perfectly timed.

This cracks me up, as a topic. Yeah, they can both be annoying, but having a bird flying around my house that's as smart a a 2 year old, with the hormone issues of a 14 year old, and with wings, so childproofing has to start at the damn ceiling, and when he poops on my shoulder it means he loves me....

well, these npc companions don't bother me a bit compared to the above. And I love my bird! But he loves wood. (any suggestions for what to put on the windowsills so he doesn't eat them is welcome).

If I can ignore him - in fact, if he's being quiet, it usually means something dreadful is happening, then I can block out Mirri totally and come pretty close to the same for Bastian. You guy all need to try to play with kids hanging around and nobody else to watch them, or a parrot creature or two.

You'd find ignoring the comps much easier.

It took a long time to get her leveled and rapport maxed so I could have the house guest, but I just can't take it any more. I warned her that if she said "You fetcher!" or "Next time you can help me with something." or "I'm still here, thanks for asking." in her smug little voice that it would be the end for her. Well she didn't listen but at least now I won't have to listen to her any more.

Please let us completely turn off Companion responses.

haha, reminds me of Piper in Fallout 4 - I couldn't stand her permanent nagging as well and went for Cait instead - she is opinionated as well, but doesn't play the high ground moral card like Piper does. Well, somewhat, I remember Cait being rather upset after I helped her with her drug addiction, whenever I used a drug in combat - so she has her moral side as well, but at least she is nagging in a lovely irish accent.

This said, my characters haven't decided yet, if they want a companion or not - my sorceresses have dumped their pets and my wardens are rarely ever summoning their bear, so yeah, hard to say if they really want a companion at this time will be interesting to find out about it, so far just 2 of my characters showed any interest to even try, but then again not really, they are still considering it - we will see. My argonian would definitely go for a lovely female argonian with a rasp voice like the singer in Gideon, and if she could sing, even more so. But there are no argonian companions yet.

I guess some of my characters would rather prefer a sprawling over the top female Bosmer as companion, who stands back and provides support with her bow. I like a lot of female Bosmer NPCs, they could be annoying, if they would not at the same time be that amusing - and they are so light-hearted and optimistic - someone like that would be great, with the voice of the girl from cyrodillic collections in Murkmire (I like her voice a lot).

I wonder which of my characters would actually like Mirri - my Dunmer won't, she isn't likely to want a companion, but who knows, she might change her attitude, when things get harder. My Argonian is not fond of mammals in a whole, he wants a female Argonian with a raspy voice - someone like the singer in Gideon. My Redguards would rather prefer a Breton or a Redguard as companion. My Khajiits are more likely to go for the new one in High Isle. My imperials could eventually be up for the task, well, actually just the female one, well, we will see - I am actually curious, how annoying Mirri really is.

If you have played Oblivion, it might come from the dialogue with the alchemist in Skingrad - she had quite a necromancy vibe to it, if not that of a body snatcher (who eventually might murder the "body" before using it). This happened in real life in the victorian era in England, when bodies were needed for medical schools and universitites. That alchemist in Skingrad had that vibe to me - so yeah, maybe that is why you feel unwell in her presence.

Yes, the companions annoy me personally.

They seem to be in the way half the time, say things that get really old after the first hundred times and the fact that Mirri loses report when you collect insects is a horrible design. Especially considering how that can happen accidently. I'd never take a companions as useless as they are plus always saying annoying things and stressing me over annoying things. It's not just ESO, I really don't get why so many games can't quit get companions right.

Once I'm done leveling them, they are off for good.

Bastian gives so very many hints about his inclinations (I mean, it could be unintentional but never has my gaydar spiked so high) that I just find the lack of a "Give him a cuddle and tell him it'll be fine" option frustrating.

Sorry, but I find it unnessicary to trivialize the things that bother or upset others just because you personally find something else more annoying than a companion. Your life experiences are not equivalent to another's, and what you are capable of tolerating has nothing to do with what another person can, or should tolerate. You may find it to be no big deal compared to your bird, but for someone who wants to relax, or who feels her comments are disturbing, maybe it IS a big deal. And that's ok.

A person can even experience all the things you have, and STILL find Mirri grating, because sometimes, you just don't like something and want to talk to others about it who might feel the same. Your life experiences don't invalidate theirs.

I like Mirri, but I can respect that others don't. It's also good for the devs to know that she doesn't jive with some people, so that they can develop future companions that they might like.

And...they aren't summoning her any more. That's...what the topic is about.

@FineFeathered - you should check with your vet about that sort of thing because birds can be sensitive to things that larger animals aren't. That said, I used to buy cayenne powder by the pound, mix it into a thick slurry with vinegar, and paint it on the wood rail fencing to keep a friend's mare from chewing the rails.

Then again, I didn't care if the fence was an inappropriately bright shade of virulent red - in a house that would probably cause some issues....

I never got either companion past level 10. Neither of them participate in any of the activities I do in game. They don’t help decorate my house- can’t even tell me if I hung that painting up straight. And neither of them lift a finger when I farm resource nodes or loot urns. They won’t do surveys. And the 2 of them complain that “I’m doing nothing standing around” when I spend hours scouring traders for good deals and furnishing plans.
I stopped letting them out long ago. They serve no purpose 😂
