Guess I just don't notice, since I've been listening to stuff like that since Morrowind. It's just part of "Dunmer" to me. /shrug

(honestly, between MW, Oblivion, and Skyrim, the races of Tamriel are just rude to one another constantly. :D )

She actually does have purely positive dialogue. Sometimes she addresses you with titles of respect like Sera and F'lah, she thinks you like a legend of Vehk (she worships the Three so that's a very high compliment from her) probably the highest compliment she can think of.

I generally ignore most of the companion dialogue if I can, but the "You're like a legend of Vehk" and "That's a slaughter Dagon would envy" are ones that I actively try to trigger.

It's like Lyris when you first meet her in the main quest and she says "Arkay's beard, you're good in a fight". I enjoy hearing my companions praise me!

I loved the idea of companions when announced, but after release, as soon as I found out how badly designed companion nagging was, I end up abandoning it.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to try that trash again, and it's surprising to see that after almost 1 year, after so many destructive updates, they didn't even cared to give us an option to mute the damn companions.

I already completed Mirri but I'm finding Bastian harder to deal with. The toon talk is unbearable, it's impossible to enter a city without hearing it nagging about cities over and over and over again. Setting it to infrequent doesn't change anything.

What about a way to delete companions sound files from the game? Can it be done?

I don't mind the inane comments - I can ignore those. But for crying out loud can she keep the hell out of the way when I'm trying to jump and interact with something.
I want Miri levelled but she is absolutely driving me insane being in the way all the time.

ZoS, please put interact with Companions on the menu, not as x (controller).

She’s in Blackwood. Finish her quest and she gets unlocked as a Companion. Ditto for Bastian.

I quite like adventuring with Mirri, to include her dialogue.

It is Bastion that I fired. About the second time he yelled at my elf for accidently killing a rat or some such during a fight that she never saw. And where the heck does he think the bunny meat meals my elf was feeding him come from?

At least with Mirri, I have a lovely addon that (among other things) can completely disable all interactions with butterflies and torchbugs. The addon is called No Interact.

I am disturbed by both, as they are evil to the core. Mirri just says something about "most people don't like Sithis but to me it feels like home or somesuch, but Bastian is far worse - "I love Sithis" he says every so often - and in combat he hails a demon-godess from Buffy: "For Glory!"

in the settings menu (i dont remember which subsection its under and not in game right now to confirm)

even if you set them to the lowest amount of dialog its definitely less frequent but still a fair amount, and i do kind of wish i could just turn it off entirely sometimes, or only do dialog when getting positive/negative rapport points (so you know you actually did something that affected them)

For me it's their general attitude (which their comments are a part of). Don't get me wrong, I do hate Bastian's particular line about how "cities are alive, fickle, and uncertain..." yes alright Hal, that's the sort of thing you only have to say once. But the rest of his comments don't bother me at all, or even his moral choices. Yeah it's slightly annoying to have to dismiss him every time I want to loot a thieve's trove, but not taking stuff that doesn't belong to you is actually a pretty standard moral view one might say.

Whereas I've noticed that Mirri doesn't give a crap if you take wasps, or even dragonflies, she only cares if you take the insects she thinks are pretty like torchbugs and butterflies, which is pretty darn hypocritical, especially coming from someone whose default outfit has a belt full of potion bottles - where does she think those crafting mats come from?

Overall, I feel like Mirri's dialogue and comments imply that she's someone who occasionally deigns to bother coming along with you, whereas Bastian feesl like he's genuinely thrown in his lot with your character and is in it wholeheartedly. Although I can see why some people might prefer Mirri over Bastian (or hate them both haha). It all depends on different playstyles and preferences, and I'm glad they both exist.

At any rate, the minute I've got Mirri fully levelled on her last skill line (I'll never use most of those skills, just wanted to 100% level both companions for my own satisfaction) then I'm going straight back to Bastian. (And sometimes solo because occasionally you just need a break).

i dont really care for the rapport system either, i only bothered with it on 1 toon just to get achievements for maxing rapport, the other toons dont care about rapport and it still generally increases lol

My wife loves the chatter from at least Bastion. I am leveling him right now, and then will switch back to Mirri. But because of how much she loves his chatter, I turned up the frequency of his comments to maximum.
I like to occasionally throw insults back at him. It is fun.

Every time I hear that line when she snaps about why I can't use anything else for my alchemy I want to snap back that no, alchemy doesn't work that way. Same as I can't replace a mountain flower with a nightshade just because it's a flower, I can't just mix one type of insect with another for the same result.

Exactly! You think that a butterfly wing has the same effect as a stinkhorn, Mirri? (Bad example but I can't be arsed with actual research right now) Those potions you're so fond of come from somewhere, and excuse me if I get a bit pissed off with you when you sound like you're only hanging around with me on sufferance anyway, guess what, the minute you level your last weapon to 20 you're outta here you grumpy whinging person.

(Also sorry if that sounds overly grumpy. I don't actuallly hate Mirri, she just pisses me off)

Rapport shouldn't even be a thing. They don't care if we like them so why should we care if they like us?

The rapport system dramatically aides them feeling their own people IMO.

I think it's too grindy but I wouldn't want it gone entirely. A traveling companion should have their own likes and dislikes, feelings towards you, and interests imo.

Things like getting the houseguest shouldn't be dependent on it. It just reminds me too much of WoW's horrible tedious reputation grinds that you had to have maxed out in many different areas to experience some of the content, like flying for example. I see this as the start of that direction in this game.

I disagree. They houseguests aren't that special anyway, and they help to provide more characterization. It makes sense that they have to like you enough to visit you the first time. Honestly it would be even more real if they left your house when they disliked you, but I'm glad they don't go that far.

I think they probably wouldn't go to far in rep grinds, as they have mostly reduced grind the rapport system aside.

Pfah. It's possible you never played Fallout 4, in which you had basically every companion complain about you collecting junk, which was, you know ... HOW YOU PLAY A FREAKING SURVIVAL GAME!!!

Bringing that into ESO, you'd get comments like

"Are we stopping to harvest platinum again? *sigh*"

"Come on, we've been at this dolmen five times."

"Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"

I'm fully okay with the rapport system. It's doesn't damage your game if it's not something you're not fussed about because you don't have to have them, and their skills are so weak compared to human players that it's really a have them/have not when it comes to combat. I personally think the game is better for having the option of them both. I would throw myself in front of a dragon to save Bastian but that's because he's so well-written and so well-voiced imo that he's become part of my adventuring team. I might throw myself in front of a skeletal warrior for Mirri, but probably because she's sat there annoyingly pulling adds and then commenting on what an inconvenience it is do do so.
