I fired Mirri

It took a long time to get her leveled and rapport maxed so I could have the house guest, but I just can't take it any more. I warned her that if she said "You fetcher!" or "Next time you can help me with something." or "I'm still here, thanks for asking." in her smug little voice that it would be the end for her. Well she didn't listen but at least now I won't have to listen to her any more.

The devs should of trippled the amount of dialog the companions have and given the option to totally muzzle them.

    ^ This.

Yes, you can make their pithy comments less frequent, but enough is enough. It's like when you run those quests and Lyris tags along, chatting all the way. Or Stuga.

I definitely feel like the passive-aggressive comments should cease at max rapport, regardless of where you've set their chattiness level.

There absolutely should be an option to disable Companion commentary. Even Bastion gets annoying. "What do you think you'll make with that?"

Do not get me started on Stuga. She is an outright stalker PITA. I wish they would just remove her nagging 'feature'. Same with fighters and Mages guild. Everyone who needs those gets them. And of course that means having to way too often hear 'the guild has need of you!' Sigh

I definitely feel like no companion should be passive aggressive with their comments. I mean, this is a game. For fun. Who the heck wants some NPC that is supposed to be fun following you around with attitude? It's almost like they never test it over time to see how it comes off. Or like they lack common sense to realize that while it might be amusing in small doses (which yes, I think it would be in very small doses) having it be constant will be annoying AF.

I think if they want to do this kind of 'clever' attitude with a companion, it should be more limited to their personal quest and the beginning quest. Maybe a very, very rare comment otherwise. But they have quite limited dialogue which makes them tedious to begin with.

Absolutely need an option to turn off their dialogue when all you hear are the same four or six comments through the game.

Well to be fair, she's snarky but she generally supports what you want to do. She don't really judge stealing or care if someone is an Argonian. Snark is just her sense of humor.

Agreed. I never really saw her comments as passive aggressive, I always saw it as her teasing my character in a snarky but familiar way. My character would tease right back, so I have no problem with mirri. I like her company and of the two she always felt genuinely caring. I find her pretty funny.

Bastian, however, I find to be grating. His holier-than-thou attitude and "deep" commentary strike me as incredibly passive aggressive, and even though he's "honorable" I'd only trust him as far as I can throw him. His quest was interesting, but I wish he'd received a less persnickity personality. Then again he mixes with my characters like oil and water since they're a bunch of happy go lucky thieves and mischief makers.

I get that the dialouge is subject to personal interpretation however and I understand someone not enjoying a sarcastic personality when it comes to mirri. I think they should have a mute option for those that want it. (Bastian, I'm looking at you)

I don't see it as friendly teasing at all. To me it comes across as her being irritated that she has been asked to help out and just one complaint after another.

I don't know why but she reminds me a little of Eveli, which is a huge turn off.

Yeah, it's super subjective depending on whose playing honestly. I can see how someone else might interpret it that way. For example, some people see Bastian as really caring and absolutely love him and I just don't see the charm. I really hope they put in that mute button.

For some reason I find Bastian easier to ignore, maybe because I don't feel like he's taking shots at me. Or it could be because he has a soothing voice and I find Mirri's to be grating. But I'd still like to silence them both.

I actually vibe with Bastian a lot and don't see him as passive aggressive either, and in fact I think he's much more of a straight shooter than Mirri. I think she'd say she doesn't like something to gently tease, whereas Bastian would just tell you he likes (or dislikes) something.

For example when you kill a butterfly she says

"There has got to be a better source for your alchemy practice."

Which is passive aggressive to me. Meanwhile Bastian says this when you kill little critters.

"Stop it! That's wasteful and cruel."

He's being pretty upfront with how he feels about it, while Mirri is moreso trying to steer you in a different direction. Mirri also hates the practice more than Bastian (she actually loses rapport, Bastian does not) but you wouldn't know it due to her way of expressing disgust. Neither of them minces words when they hate something or you though.

To me Mirri is a snarky person who likes to gently tease her friends and is a bit weird.

Bastian is a bit of a dweeb who has a strong sense of right and wrong, and tries to be more direct about how he's doing. A lawful good knight who's lowkey a massive dork.

I don't find either passive aggressive. They both seem to enjoy your company, but Mirri 's morals are a lot more flexible than Bastian.

I think we're all just so accustomed to stealing in Tamriel that we look at Bastian like he's the weird one for having a problem with it, even though lots of citizens of Tamriel don't like it.

I'm the total opposite funnily enough, I can't stand the sound of Bastian's voice and adore Mirri's when she's more serious and concerned. It's always interesting to me to see how different everyone is when it comes to how they feel about the companions.

Here's hoping the next two companions have better commentary.

This is one area where I wish I could mod the game like Skyrim. I like both Bastian and Mirri, but there are a couple of their comments that really rub me the wrong way. Definitely Mirri's "I'm still here, thanks for asking", I find incredibly strange, like... why would she assume I was ignoring her? It does sound passive-aggressive to me.

Some of Bastian's comments can sound like an inspirational wallpaper, which is, well, strange, but fine for the most part. But then some boss knocks you down and he pipes up with, "Heroes don't give up; they get up!", and I think, "Yeah, I was really going to take a nap here with this Vvardenfell boss stomping on my face, but thanks for reminding me not to."

Thing is, I do usually enjoy their comments, so I don't want to turn them all off, just the odd ones.

(well, really, I find the whole "suicidal butterflies & torchbugs throwing themselves at your cursor" thing to be the most annoying aspect.)
