NA Server Down Apr 30 - Nothing Listed in Server Status

Shanna - this is the replacement maintenance to apply the patch that should have happened yesterday and didn't. So...yes I guess you could call it scheduled emergency maintenance? Since they did give us a days notice, technically it's scheduled, but it's not actually "regular".

I think that it was particularly awesome that they forgot to remove the server down warnings last night and thus essentially bullied people off the server... and left it running. I hope the servers enjoyed a nice rest with low loads.
It was particularly great as an Oceanic player being led to believe I had to log off when in fact I didn't. The additional sleep has certainly helped my mood, I managed to briefly forget about the fact that I have really only had 66% of my available gaming time with servers actually online, and that made me happy.

Of course such a state was fleetingly temporary, only to find the servers down yet again for unscheduled server maintenance.

With all of the changes to the maintenance schedule I am amazed Bugamax employee's even know what day of the week it is anymore... oh... wait a minute...

    from the maint topic:

The North American megaserver will be brought down at 6:00am EDT / 11:00am BST on Wednesday, April 30th.
The European megaserver will be brought down at 5:00am BST / 6:00am CEST on Thursday, May 1st.

Any formal estimates on how many hours/days this downtime will take?

Why didn't they do this yesterday when the server was already down for maintenance.
Patch was all screwed up, took about 4,5 hours to get EU server back online, so the just canceled maintenance for NA yesterday.

    Great. More untested installs...

Seriously? AU and SEA players getting the short end of stick again? Twice a week for regular maintainance + often 'ad hoc' maintainance. Almost 1/3 of the paid time is not available for playing and you expect us to continue subscribing?

In case you haven't noticed, most players don't care how little playtime they get, so Zeni doesn't care if a handful of players get upset.

    Sad but true.

If this was F2P, they could just tell everyone to suck it up and it will be ready when it's ready. BUT when people pay for content they expect dependability and reliability.

Not sure why you quoted me... Shanna mentioned she doesn't appreciate needing to check the website regularly to learn the status of current/planned maintenance. As such, I offered an alternative to checking the website for server info. Nothing in my post was related to whether anything is or is not "the customer's job to find out if they [sp] service they are paying for is actually going to be provided..."

    It's approaching 4 hours now.
  • jayssenrwb17_ESO
It is pretty clear that Zenimax are really struggling with their mega server. Relatively small patches taking over 4 hours are laughable really. The constant lag, unknown errors, phasing issues.....ugh. Poor Zenimax.

You can't really use the EU maintenance to guage time this time. The EU maintenance was for a completely different issue. It would be like saying it takes an hour to drive from one end of the city to the other so it should only take an hour to fly to another country. The comparison is a logical fallacy.

The servers will be up when the patch is applied and verified.

Yea some kind of official response on why it's taking over 1.5 hours longer then the EU server would be nice.

My logic is fine. It is the people in here who say, "It's just a game so it doesn't matter how bad the service is or how long the downtimes are" that have really bad logic.

Again, the current NA maintenance (i.e., the 1.06 patch) won't be performed on the EU server till tomorrow...

And my comment was on the fact that the servers are down so often, and for such long period of times, that paying customers need some kind of update service to be able to guesstimate when the server will be up so they might be able to play.

I know. It is almost entering into the realm of being just plain embarrassing for them. Oh well. Hopefully they will start to get a grip on the technology and not need to take phenomenally long to apply patches. Can you imagine how long the servers will be down for Craglorn? lol, probably another 12 hours, and then days and days of the servers being pulled down every day for emergency maintenance.

Perhaps, in fairness, it is being unfair to compare the skill levels of the Zeni technicians to the GW2 techs. The GW2 crew had a decade to learn their craft, while, and correct me if I am wrong, this is the first Zeno MMO?

To date, their only experience with patches have been watching the automated updates done by MS Office. If so, to expect the Zeni techs to be able to perform patches and updates the way they should be done is sadly my mistake.

Some of the higher up were the maker of DAOC which comes out on 2001. they are 'veteran' mmo maker who made the game which both gw2 and eso base their pvp system on.
