Especially in light of the fact that the skilled technicians at GW2 do patches on the fly.
I know. It is almost entering into the realm of being just plain embarrassing for them. Oh well. Hopefully they will start to get a grip on the technology and not need to take phenomenally long to apply patches. Can you imagine how long the servers will be down for Craglorn? lol, probably another 12 hours, and then days and days of the servers being pulled down every day for emergency maintenance.
Perhaps, in fairness, it is being unfair to compare the skill levels of the Zeni technicians to the GW2 techs. The GW2 crew had a decade to learn their craft, while, and correct me if I am wrong, this is the first Zeno MMO?
To date, their only experience with patches have been watching the automated updates done by MS Office. If so, to expect the Zeni techs to be able to perform patches and updates the way they should be done is sadly my mistake.
Some of the higher up were the maker of DAOC which came out on 2001. they are 'veteran' mmo maker who made the game which both gw2 and eso base their pvp system on.

Yes, but the technicians doing maintenance on ESO have zero experience with running and patching an MMO, which explains their inability to meet the high standards set by the techs over at GW2 and other MMOs.

Pretty sad when it is the customer's job to find out if they service they are paying for is actually going to be provided...
Not sure why you quoted me... Shanna mentioned she doesn't appreciate needing to check the website regularly to learn the status of current/planned maintenance. As such, I offered an alternative to checking the website for server info. Nothing in my post was related to whether anything is or is not "the customer's job to find out if they [sp] service they are paying for is actually going to be provided..."
And my comment was on the fact that the servers are down so often, and for such long period of times, that paying customers need some kind of update service to be able to guesstimate when the server will be up so they might be able to play.
I know what your comment was about, and it had nothing to do with my suggestion to Shanna. In other words, there wasn't any reason to quote me. If you want to complain about something, you can do so without quoting an unrelated post.
Dude, if you don't want to be quoted in a public forum, your only solution is to not post in a public forum.

Personally. I think they should notify you on the launcher of planned maintenance taking place and what time it will start. With World of Warcraft (God I can't believe I have to mention that MMO again) they at least have a twitter feed that people man to keep you apprised if the Maintenance goes over expected times.

Pro-tip - go to linkedin.com, and search for Zenimax Online. They've actually hired key talent from other MMO providers.
That said, as a company this is their first title at all, and they clearly have big hurdles to cross around getting this right. Maintenance will get better over time.
I think the whole argument is that EU got a separate post that's clearly marked EU and includes a date, while NA just got an update at the bottom of the original post (for both servers) I personally had no issues finding information on the status.
Oy whoever said Americans weren't entitled children have never read these forums. Glad you had no trouble using your deductive reasoning. Cheerio.

You are wrong. She was complaining about the fact that she doesn't like checking the website to find out if the server is, yet again, down. You suggested she use an alternate method to monitor the server being down. I then made my comment about how sad it is that people are forced to find solutions to a Zenimax problem of server downtime.
My comment covered 100% your post, and that is why I quoted you.

Hmmm... wouldn't happen to be living in NA would you? If so your comments about downtime interrupting your game time are invalid as you are essentially unaffected, unless you are the 10% of the population shift working.
MMO's have been around for over a decade, in context of business management, there are plenty of case examples of how to and how not to run an MMO business, and therefore expectations for a AAA MMO company are significantly higher than they were back in, say 2003.
I have played many different MMO's, experienced many different launches, and whilst I have no issue with the method in which Zenimax has launched the game, the maintenance schedule is particularly unsympathetic to Oceanic players, and thus people are feeling a little cheated. Couple this with the fact that the game has been offline in our primary play time an average of 2.5 nights a week since launch, you may now possibly begin to empathise with the feelings of anger and disenfranchisement Oceanic players are feeling.
To punctuate this, Australians are now starting to refer to this game as Elder Scrolls Offline...
All of the above equates to a very naive and rookie approach to MMO management of this game, and hence justification of my comment.
