Holy crap if they want to sell this card game as the main feature of the Chapter, goodbye.

ESO combat gameplay is so stale, it definitely needs SOMETHING.

But this would fall in line with their approach of giving us fluff features instead of actual stuff.

Not everything has to be about combat, this sounds like an awesome addition.

Combat hasn’t gotten ANYTHING since Summerset in that regard. If you count a new class which is specific to those using the new class, we can say Elsweyr.

But Greymoor and Blackmoore had nothing related to that. Mythic items are just that and add nothing to combat, neither do companions. No new skill line in 5 years is just incredibly lame and boring.

Not everything has to be about combat feels like a slap in the face when ESO combat plays exactly the same for half a decade now.

This sounds like a nice addition next to something related to gameplay. What ESO definitely not needs is more fluff features as the main selling point.

Coming from someone who only plays ESO for trials. I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not interested in lore, furnishing houses, how my player looks (as I just stick a poly on anyway), antiquities, questing, card games etc. that's all boring for me and I know I'm in the minority. I like challenging content and helping people through challenging content and it would be nice to have some additions to combat gameplay.

This card game can be counted as pvp content, does it not?
You can play against other players from that description
Granted not the kind of pvp content that was asked for but pvp content still

That card game better be awesome :D

I still hope for a weapon in the game base update (or new skills for classes) but don't worry, I'm totally aware that I have 90% to be disappointed.

If the big feature is a card game then I think I will skip this chapter. I didn’t buy a big fancy gaming PC, base game + Greymoor + Blackwood + ESO+, and a gigabit fiber connection just to play a card game. I’ve got a phone for that.

Before everyone goes Doom and gloom:

    1. We didn't know and CP 2.0 or the vampire rework prior to Blackwood. That wasn't part of the chapter selling points.
    2. ZoS has more or less resisted monetizing antiquities and companions. No leveling scrolls, crown exclusive leads or companion gear, no companions for sale. I don't doubt the card game is going to be 100% grind rather than buy a deck in the crown store and win.

Well before I jump on the dissapointment wagon I have a little hope that the cards (or some) we hold on our account have some impact on combat. Like: Boost some stats, add new combat abilities, summon combat pets. And these are earned through PVP/ PVE tournaments.

In order to balance the hardcore vs casual dilema, I'd think / suggest that the highest rank rewards are tied to fluff like tittles, pets, mounts, skins pretty much like the trials system.

This is the way I think they would make these feature worthy on a MMO.

I wonder will it be in anyway similar to TES:Legends? also it mentioned building decks, does that mean we can potentially find rare cards in other zones in addition to Antiquities?

My expectation is that this game will be heavily Pay To Win. It is an optional accessory activity to the main game, so they are completely free to monetize cards. They can release loot box packs of cards that may contain random OP cards, and it in no way changes the core power of the character in the game.

How was it a flop, everyone I see ingame uses them and Companion gear (Blue and above) still sells well on traders.

Most people who cared about end game just threw them away once they got all the associated achievements. They were annoying & useless.

If the card game is gonna be good and they'll add new companions (they did so with antiquities so logic dictates that they should do the same and expand all new systems), I'm gonna be content.

If they're gonna improve the performance over the board, fix vampire, and write decent stuff like they did in Deadlands and unlike they did in Blackwood, I'm gonna be happy.

If they're gonna give us more furnishing slots, I'll be ecstatic.

Worst case scenario: it's gonna be bad like Blackwood (Deadlands excluded) and I'll go on maintenance mode, only logging in to do writs, events and the occasional trial with guildies, then log out and play something else.

Whilst I have no great objection to a card game, I'm a self confessed Gwent addict, I truly hope there will be some damn good base game fixes coming too.....

I generally don't suffer from many issues whilst in game BUT "stuck in combat" seems to be absolutely everywhere now, no longer just a Cyrodiil issue! 😕

I admit it might be because of what I've been doing during the current event that has made me see it more often but it's really starting to drive me nuts.

As a quick explanation, I have been running through Summerset Delves picking up/placing/destroying the necessary items for the daily and then porting out, 95% of the time when I go to port out I cannot as I have run past mobs without killing them and therefore am now "stuck in combat". Now it used to be that finding the nearest set of mobs and killing them would get you out of it but that no longer seems to work. I have a theory that I need to test, that it might be having a companion out is somehow making this worse. Often I see that my companion is try to go back somewhere at this point.

Anyway my point was ...... card game, not the best...... please have some much needed fixes in the pipeline too! 😟
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

I am excited for more questing content and for enlarging the map, but a card game? I have to say that took a lot of my enthusiasm away.

I was hoping for a new “swashbuckler/privateer” type class, or at least, well, something I can put skill points into that would enhance my gameplay while out in the “world”, but a card game? I dunno. I am not fond of logging onto a game, to play a completely different type of game. I wish they added something with more meat to it.

I like the idea of a card game and think it could be fun. Sadly, my expectation is that ZOS will implement a card game that is heavily monetized and accompanied by an in-game XBox Compliance grind that will be pretty bad. I guess we will see in a few hours, but my expectation is pretty low for this Chapter, overall.

I’m hoping there is more information coming during the announcement today as everything in this thread is underwhelming to say the least. Between the pandemic impacting work schedules and deliverables, the surprisingly small crew overall, the new Microsoft management/ownership and the likely human resource loans to Starfield, I guess we should not be surprised by the small scale of the new chapter.

There will be new information in the annoucement stream.

We know nothing really about the chapter zone itself aside from it's name and a good idea of it's location.

I just want to mention that technically speaking Tales of Tribute is complex, really complex.
Deck building is a complex system,
A new game UI, and system is technically complex. You have to write whole new game logic, and make that work in an 8 year old game, it's complex.
Having this work against both NPC's and other players is extremely complex.

This was not a quick decision to chuck in a new system, tehcnically this is really challenging to implement, I don't think this is deserving of being called small scale, in my opinion just based on that one sentence it will be technically the most complex new system they have added to the game, ever.

It's a flop because that person specifically doesn't use them, obviously.

With companions there are 2 likely scenarios:

    1) they are chapter/DLC exclusive: new companions come along new paid chapters and old companions are added to DLC or stand alone cost.

    2) they all go into the crown store starting this june: so all new and old companions hace a specific crown cost.

I mean, that just makes it even worse in my opinion. With all the features people have been requesting, the dreadful performance, and the beyond disappointing content of the last two years, THIS is what they have been pouring all of their resources in? If it is, as you say, a really complex system, that makes me very very worried for the future of ESO, being in the hands of a company that is so astronomically out of touch with both their playerbase and the feedback it gives, and what a game like this needs to grow even further. Now call me crazy, but I am very doubtful that what this game needs to grow is a god damn card game. Who the hell even asked for this? Seriously.

There have been various threads asking for a card game over all the time I've been playing the game and reading the forums - 3.5 years. I'm sure you can hunt them up using search.

I'm not one who has any real interest in card games, but I'm also not one to be interested much in "moar combat" etc.

A card game? Seriously? I grew up when there were no computers and card games and board games were all we had. Yet another card game is about the last thing on my ESO wish list.
