I get the free + trial when it's out to clear the bank, but that only started a few tears ago. Don't hoard too many crafting materials. Got 1 toon holding a bunch of set items. Never found it too limiting. Most of my toons use world sets rather than crafted ones, anyway.
Honest question: How do you play the game? I can't conceive how one could acquire and use multiple builds, craft extensively, and make large amount of gold without a subscription. I am disappointed that this reward is almost meaningless for anyone who is an ESO+ subscriber. ESO+ subscribers who will unsub and keep playing, are a pretty small minority. If people quit the game they will unsub, but if they ever come back they will also likely resub, so the fact that I can keep the DLC if I ever end my subscription means very little to me, and I assume this is the case for most people who are also subscribers.
I also buy the chapter each year on release, and the most recent chapter isn't included with ESO+, which means I paid a 12 month subscription for 2 dungeon DLCs and a craft bag, instead of 2 dungeon DLCs, a zone DLC, and a craft bag, so it feels like this year that I wasn't getting my money's worth, I will reiterate again that I'm not angry that the DLC is being given away for free - but I feel like I've wasted my money this year compared to the previous years. I didn't play in late 2018 so I never got Murkmire for free from the daily rewards.
The main issue is that ZOS decided to make a big deal about the "mystery reward." As again, for ESO+ subscribers, the "reward" is something that they already pay for, hence why people are disappointed.

Kaelith_Rimeborn✭✭✭I am grateful and thankful that ZOS is giving Deadlands away for free, I've been playing since 2016 and have never subbed, I always bought every DLC/chapter/cosmetics with money. I've played almost everyday for several years and spent alot of money over the years, and this year in particular, I was really starting to feel turned off by performance, lack of depth in companions, this years story/theme...etc. A couple months ago, I decided that I wouldn't spend any more money on this game until they start improving things. But now after they announced that they are giving away the deadlands DLC for free I was super excited and I'm actually hyped for the deadlands DLC now where as before I wasn't really interested or going to get it for at least quite a while until maybe when there was a sale. I can see now that after watching the past ESO Announcement livestreams, Rich Lambert answer player questions and talk about the game on his Twitch Channel and the dev's excitement talking about what they are doing and the stuff they are working on, I can see that they really do care, they love the game and want to make it the best they can. This announcement of giving away an entire DLC for free has restored my faith in ZOS and showed me that they don't just care about money, they actually want to make their customers happy. I will be supporting ZOS by buying crowns/DLC/Chapters again and because they will be giving away this DLC for free, I'm now considering subscribing to continue to show support and reward ZOS for being generous and giving things to their loyal players. I think ZOS deserves some praise, and should be rewarded for being customer friendly. I hadn't thought of how ESO+ subscribers would feel since technically they would've gotten access to the zone regardless, but think about it this way, now you don't have to pay crowns to fully own it anymore ensuring that you have access to the zone forever, plus if it reaches 100% then you still have the ogrim target dummy to look forward to. Either way, it's sad to see ZOS getting flak from the community where they shouldn't. ZOS is doing a good thing for the community and they are getting attacked for it, what does this show them? That if they do something good they will be met with division and criticism by the community, this will make them less likely to give us stuff for free in the future. I for one like free stuff regardless if its something as small as a pet/cosmetic or as big as a house/DLC, no matter what I am grateful for free stuff and want ZOS to know that they are doing good thing for the community, keep up the good work!

This is why competition is king for consumers. All the ESO main streamers are playing New World and the game is flavour of the month - whether it lasts is questionable.

yeah, but i heard rumours that only the streamer can access it because they are whitelisted. all others have a 10 hours queue. lol. i had a good laugh reading the steam comments. a lot actually evaluate the waiting screen, because thats all what they 've seen so far of the game after 20 hours or more "playtime".

Apologies for the cynicism but you really think that they’re giving this away out of the goodness of their hearts and are not using it as an incentive to sell more of a chapter that has apparently had poor sales performance? Or maybe I missed the sarcasm in your post.11 -

You say that this will allow people to "own" the DLC if they stop subbing as if almost anyone who unsubs does so because they're leaving the game. If they end up coming back, they re-sub, not buy DLCs and whatnot.10 -

I don’t think it’s the reward that people are complaining about. It’s the fact that it was hyped so heavily. I, personally, feel like I was duped into tuning in to watch some cross-between Dream Theater and Anthrax promote their new 10 minute music video. Not that it was bad. This isn't a gift at all, it's an incentive to buy the latest chapter before it goes crowns-buyable and/or included with base game later.
That is NOT a "gift"--to anyone, free players OR ESO+. The "marketing team" have done their job exactly as intended. A gift with strings attached is not a gift, it's a marketing ploy. Housing is a gift, even if getting a huge empty estate is an incentive to buy furniture, at least players have the option to not have to pay RL money to furnish the places. This DLC? You have to pay money to get it, if you haven't already, and if you already pay money, you essentially get nothing new.
That's fine, but let's not fool ourselves and talk "altruism", here.
A gift doesn't have strings, and it has (generally) equal value to people who pay for ESO+ as well as those who don't. People who pay for ESO+ already have access to this DLC. While I approve of the "no pay to win" values exhibited in the stream, it's interesting that people who pay end up with no extras in this case (and no, I don't think the craft bag, free dyes or double furnishings = "value". Those are created problems that have been "solved" with a subscription. That's fine, seriously--no, really-- but don't call it "value" when you pay for it or lose it the millisecond your sub runs out no matter how long you've been subbed for).
ETA: I am mostly fine with it (not angry just disappointed my cynicism was warranted), and am glad non subbers get a free DLC... you know, if they buy something.
I'm just tired of over-nonsense marketing. But that's partly because my PM is "Scotty from Marketing" and I'm cynicalled out.

no, I haven't subbed since the first few months I played in 2016. I grab zone DLC and chapters when they're on sale (don't care about dungeons or trials), and use the periodic free + weekends to stash everything back in the craft bag. I don't keep a bunch of sets in my bank, each of my characters has a build and they don't change around. If I want a new build, I'll make a new character. So the bank, bag, and storage chest are plenty of space.2 -

I bought Blackwood because I got a promo email saying Deadlands would be free DLC if we do Blackwood achievement. So ZOS made a sale from me that they would not have gotten otherwise. I had not decided to buy Blackwood up until now, and I am not an ESO+ subscriber.
Maybe they can give a "bonus" reward to ESO+ subs, but consider: if you go away from the game a little while and your sub lapses, you can come back and still have access to Deadlands without having to re-sub. You are getting access permanently. I think it's a good hook to get players to come back to the game after they have taken a break.3 -

There was no home (event one, but we had Lunar Champion and now we have Deadlands morphed house) and no free DLC that year. Dummy and plunder boxes are also here.
And still you complain! None was taken from you, none. ESO+ already has its benefits, and I'm so tired of "well, statuettes are not enough, discounts are not enough, nothing is not enough". You were paying your sub before there was any rewards and you did that because of DLC access, craft bag and extra crowns. You were paying for what exactly was given to you. [snip]
I usually buy DLC at the first given discount, not a full price, even tho I have subscription enabled. Sometimes I might wait for a few weeks to renew it just to be able to take both monthly rewards in the next paid month and having all DLCs unlocked in that period is super nice. [snip]

Feeling decidedly underwhelmed by the "extra special" prize that's unlocked at 100% this event. As an ESO+ member it doesn't feel "extra special" to get the DLC I would have access to anyway. Just put it in as a regular reward from the beginning and all is good.
