Companion Rapport is not increasing

So I’m trying to level my Companion rapport but I’m noticing that no matter how much I level them, the bar never moves. In addition, what is SUPPOSED to increase rapport for them doesn’t.
I’m trying to level Bastion so I can get his permanent potion boost, but the activities that are supposed to give him rapport aren’t. I loot a chest, no increase. Harvest nodes? No increase. Mages Guild/Fighters Guild daily? No increase.
Anyone else getting this issue?

It moves, but it isn't big jumps. Mages guild daily will give him the biggest rapport increase. Something like opening a psijic portal is miniscule

Rapport is also not tied to XP. It is tied to activities you perform that resonate with the companion.

Killing snakes will increase Mirri's rapport, but Bastian likes it when you kill bandits. Bastian likes it when you scry for Antiquities, but Mirri likes it when you dig them up. Mirri likes Fighters Guild but Bastian likes Mages Guild.

Mirri hates it when you pick up torchbugs. Bastian hates it when you make something that uses cheese, or do something criminal.

There is a full list here:

    Bastian

    Mirri

Edit: and if that is not working that way for you, probably need to /bug it from inside the game.

I understand that. The main problem is when I do something they like, the Rapport doesn’t change.
I just did a mages guild daily and never got the mortification that the rapport went up

It's moving, but it's such a small amount you can't really see the bar moving at all. Players on PC have used addons to see the actual numerical increase. You'd have to do 10 mages guild dailies or over 100 books or snakes to see even a small amount of difference on the bar.

This is a massive oversight in the system. The rapport increases are noted in game, but the values of those increases are not. The total amount needed is not noted. It's like doing a math equation but instead of numbers, it's just all variables. ZOS really needed to be more clear with the base game interface to let players know that they are actually progressing. Many players, rightfully so, assume the system is broken. It's working, you just have no way of knowing that without addons.

And what level of rapport you have received? Because once you reach an end, you don't receive rapport any longer - unless you drop and need to regain rapport once more.

I have also had times where I do not receive rapport points for doing things where I should. However it's been a random occurrence for myself, so I just keep slogging along.

Yes. It is one thing to make the rapport a mystery and not actually tell us what increases it and decreases it. However, they should not do that and also simply display a vague summary of progress in the UI.

Don't forget there is also a cooldown on the rapport increases. Killing a snake or goblin for Mirri will give an increase, but you need to wait 5-10 minutes to get another from her for killing another one

There is, I think, a 20 hour cool down on the Guild Dailies with regards to Rapport. Even though they reset each night, you need to make sure you wait long enough in between activities.

Note, Mirri is much easier to increase, she has more activities.

It's a problem of scale. Maximum rapport is 5500, and most changes in rapport are very small. E.g., picking a torchbug is only a -1... in the context of 5500, it's background noise that you can safely ignore. Digging up an antiquity is a mere +5. As mentioned, the guild dailies are more, but even +125 will barely budge the bar, and unless you're peeping at pixels, it will appear like it's not moving.

The Improved Companion Rapport Information addon will make the rapport changes less opaque, so you can more clearly see your progress.

The market value for the potent versions is slightly higher than the regular potions, at least on PC-NA. They do vendor for the same amount, though, iirc.

The guild dailies definitely do not have cooldowns. I've gotten shares on Mages Guild and Fighters Guild quests and done them back-to-back and had the rapport increase show up in my loot tracker for each turn-in.

Mirri's Ashlander dailies do appear to be on a 20-hour cooldown, though.

It's also entirely possible that there's been some inconsistency with how rapport is awarded and/or displayed by the loot tracker. Certainly doesn't help figure out what's going on, but ZOS jank can't be discounted.

I've maxed both. Just finished Bastion yesterday. The bar stayed at 90 percent or so for me, Ps4 here. Make sure to check your achievements. I ran around killing cult members and scrying just to check and see I'd already maxxed rapport. I wasted I don't know how much time. May not be the issue, was certainly mine. Also, to chime in, Mage's daily will hit no matter if you just read a book or visited a hall with the portal. Good luck, I'm glad its over.

I notice this for reading books in particular. Say I have Miri out in a dungeon and come across a bookshelf, read a book and nothing. I think it's a glitch tbh because I know a workaround for it. Basically if you don't get any rapport for reading a book switch to the other companion and read the book. That companion will get it and it will also reset the main companion you are trying to get it with. You will have to wait the 5 mins or whatever it is tho.

I know this works for reading books, not sure about other activities. The Mage's Guild/Fighter's guilds shouldn't work like this since it is strict that Miri only gets for Fighter's and Bastion for Mage's. The Undaunted one however could be worth trying but then again you can only do it once per day anyway lol so I guess not.

To be fair, the companion rapport system isn't really buggy. It's likely working exactly as intended. The way it's intended to work is not really player friendly or transparent.

I remember thinking that the rapport feature was broken too and it was not until I had installed an addon (can't remember it's name) that I saw how slowly it moves.

Also, bear in mind that some of the things you do that drop rapport can take a lot more effort to gain back. Not sure if it is still the case but if Mirri caught me picking up one measly bug, I'd have to be plying her with alcohol & reading bedtime stories for days before she'd forgive me.

Mirri only dings you one rapport point per cooldown period. You can craft some alcohol to get her drunk, but you can also find and kill a snake, or even read a book from a bookshelf, to get her to forgive you.
