A lot of names in ESO are quite nice and relatively ''normal'' imo, especially since a lot of them ARE real names, like the breton, redguard, khajiit, and imperial ones. Darien, Abnur, Khamira, Ayrenn
I wouldn't name a kid one of the super particular proper names like Akatosh but that's just me

That being said, depending on gender and on which race of ESO character you pick, there are a lot of good names in many games. Isn't Kevin Smith's daughter named Zelda?

Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda. Kevin Smith's is Harley Quinn.

Lucky girl, father could have named her He-Man, because according to him it is female name ^^

ESO has a lot of normal and not so normal but nice sounding names. With all the damn weird names I've seen people name their children the latest decades, naming them after a character in Elder Scrolls might actually be less so.

Even children with very common names gets bullied for them. Kids will find a way somehow. Can be a rhyme, can just sound similar, the name can appear in a song, story etc and the kid will then hear that song, story whatever a lot.

Close, but you're mixing up two very similar stories.

Robin Williams daughter is called Zelda. Kevin Smith's daughter is called Harley Quinn.

Also, for what it's worth Zelda Williams is a big fan of the games (and won't let anyone else play Zela or Sheikh in Smash Bros when she's playing) and Harley Quinn Smith was very excited to see Suicide Squad, so giving a kid a 'pop culture name' doesn't guarentee they'll hate it, or you.

I always suggest naming people by names that already exist but with different spelling if you wanna be somewhat more creative.

This just creates the problem of the child having to correct the spelling of their name all the time.

I don't think there's any way to avoid that.

My name is Katy, and I still have to spell it out for people. And I can't even just say "Katy with a Y" because that's resulted in 'Katiey' or 'Katey' before.

Well.... my name's actually fairly normal - Vicki. However, all through grade school (in many different states as my dad was a draftsman for oil company pipelines so we moved a LOT) I was always 'Icky Sticky Vicki". Since I've always been an introvert, I just accepted that I was "different", and got on with school. That didn't help really since I was always at the top of every class except math....

On top of all that, everyone always misspells it as either Vicky or Vickie (even some of my family....) I always wanted to be Dierdre. Unfortunately.... And sure I could change it - but hey, I'm nearly 74, there's no real point now....

There is a word in English for this that I cannot type in this chat. The meaning of the word pertains to the child not being legitimately conceived. When moderators allow us to use proper English vocabulary I may repost.

My name has 2 common spellings and I'm often asked "this spelling or this one?", but all I have to say "the first" or "the second" so it's not too annoying. But why purposely change the spelling of a name from it's commonly known version into one that is completely uncommon and guarantee they will always have to spell it?

Seriously, though ... I hate the judgmental sorts who are telling you to give them a "normal" name. I mean, what is "normal"? My real name is an unusual name from Greek mythology and it didn't hurt me any. I never even got bullied for it. (My mom is Greek, so ...)

(Edited because I am incapable of spelling the word "is" correctly.)

The wifey said yes to Vestige :o

I can only see Vestige as a middle name. Look up what the words mean as well. Think of how a name can be used as ridicule. You may stick to your own idea of what it means but it will have a different meaning to the general public and there's nothing you can do to stop them.
Hope you raise a strong kid if that's the case.

Depends on the name. And the child. My daughter has an unusual name, at least, it's unusual in the US (she's half Turkish and has a Turkish name). She is a friendly, confident girl, and she has always liked having a distinctive name. In fact, she gave my grandson a Turkish name, too.

Hey, thread author. :) If you can't settle on a character name you like, there are plenty of other cool Elder Scrolls names you could use. I was talking about Varla and Welkynd stones in guild chat tonight. Then saw a player with "Varla" in their username and thought, "That's actually a pretty cool name." Probably you wouldn't want Varla specifically for your son, but perhaps a future child. Or pet! XD There are just a lot of cool little names like that to look out for, for inspiration. A lot of names in Elder Scrolls that may seem "unusual" (to Western audiences, at least) are actually based on real-world names anyway, current and historical. You can also try combining names you like to make a new one. As both author and roleplayer, I'm always looking for name inspirations. I love inserting nods to what I love in my own creations, so I do the name-combining thing a lot.

Agreed. Heck mine's in Syriac with a Latin middle name, yet my last name is insanely Old English/Scottish — that's as weird as one could probably get in the US, all because my parents loved specific characters from two different shows. It doesn't roll off the tongue easy, people often misspell it, so I use the Greek to English version since it's less of a headache for myself and others. I honestly got bullied more for that than my original name. 🙄

Think about your son as an adult. What will the name look like on a resume? Will normal people be able to pronounce it? Will he be taken seriously?
You're not just naming a baby. You are naming a person who will be living his whole life with the title you give him.

I would hope that to be the case. But some people really out here naming their kids things like that these days. It wouldn't be the craziest name I have seen.

You won't get to see the name you wanted to name your kid because society would have to get used to strange names without it first sounding like an absolute elaborate joke. Your kid might not even see it either. Another thing you could do is give them a normal first name and the middle name you want.

Yeah, I did this with Almuhleckseeuh, Sewthuh Seal, and Brenda (pronounced "Vivec") with varying levels of success.

(I actually do like the name "Almalexia" but I think I'd be too embarrassed to name a child that)

Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
