    I think it's cool!
There are even Argonian names that easily translate into Human names...
    Demands-The-Manager, for example. :)

Although Eats-Loves-Kills might end up getting into trouble in school..

I believe that when parents chose a special name, it's important to have the thinking: OK, I love ESO, so the reference makes sense to me, but what with my kid? Because when the kid will be older, can she/he cope with it? At school, toward friends, at work...

I have quite a lot of friends who's parents gave a name "out of the norm" (due to a book, a movie, or else...), without to realize that it's the kid who has to deal with it later. Not the parents. I even know two who paid to have their name modified because they couldn't cope with it.

A possible alternative (one friend just did that) is to chose a name out of the norm, but with a second one more classical, so that if the kid doesn't like the fantasy one when he/she is older, he/she can swap to his second more classical name.
Or another way is to chose a special name that allows for an abbreviation a bit more standard, so that if the kid doesn't like the full name, he can stay with the abbreviation (something allowing for an abbreviation of the type tom, tim, ... whatever that type).

Very personal opinion of course. I myself had to restrain myself not to give names out of the heroic fantasy stories I love. And years later, when I told to the kids what for names had gone through my mind, they thanked me that I didn't do it! :D:D:D

I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA

Depends on what country you are in, some have laws to prevent that sort of thing.

Not the UK though, a friend of mine was given the middle name `Danger' by his parents, its on his birth certificate but they didn't tell him till his 18th birthday.

Does your friend have the first name "James", last name "Bond"? ;)

I always suggest naming people by names that already exist but with different spelling if you wanna be somewhat more creative. You won't get to see the name you wanted to name your kid because society would have to get used to strange names without it first sounding like an absolute elaborate joke. Your kid might not even see it either. Another thing you could do is give them a normal first name and the middle name you want.

Yeah, I did this with Almuhleckseeuh, Sewthuh Seal, and Brenda (pronounced "Vivec") with varying levels of success.

(I actually do like the name "Almalexia" but I think I'd be too embarrassed to name a child that)

You kidding? Almalexia is actually a good name. Alexia is pretty normal, Alma is also pretty normal at least to spanish speakers. Almalexia would be just fine. The other two, I don't think so. Maybe as a middle name.

According to an article I read a few years ago the most common name change by deed poll is always people changing their middle name to 'Danger' or adding it as a middle name.

I'm waaaaaay too white to get away with using a Spanish name. May have to find a Spanish husband.

My current husband will not be pleased. Especially since I'm not actually going to have kids to begin with.

But yeah, I'd never use Sil or Vivec, even as middle names. Vivec would make a good name for a cat or like... a chihuahua though.

I also like how Alduin sounds, but would never in a million years name a child that. I'm sure a little boy would love running around pretending to be a dragon, but it may make dating difficult later on. Unless he grows up to be an adult who runs around pretending to be a dragon, in which case he'll be fine.

I did give my Son an unusual name from another country, named after a family member. I think he likes his name but he does have to explain the spelling a lot which can be irritating.

Try this test first on the name you choose:

How does it sound if you shout it across the neighborhood when you call your kid home from play?
How will it sound on the lips of the schoolkids at their school?
When its read to the crowd when they graduate?
When they are saying their vows when they get married?

Instead of "honoring" a game that will probably be gone before he hits double digits, how about you honor someone in your past, such as a parent, a grandparent, or some other relative who influenced you or your wife positively?

    You know, something meaningful.

    < snip> how about you honor <snip> ?

    You know, something meaningful.

To some of us the TES universe is very meaningful.

    Snipped for snippy-ness
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis
