A lifetime of grief from your kid.

    Deservedly so.

I don't know, "Lord of Domination" kinda has a nice ring to it... :D

Congrats! People often name their children after greek heroes/gods or other stories so personally I see no problem with this at all, plus as others mentioned there were a ton of 'normal' names in eso that you can use e.g Darien, Bastien. Just make sure it is appropriate to your culture and think carefully how immature people may be able to make silly names with it. Initially I also thought about Vanus but then I'm sure your kid will hate you for the rest of his life.

When your kid eventually wants to know why they're named a certain way, just come up with a good-sounding reason.

You can change "We procrastinated and just picked a character out of a video game we used to play at the time," into "Your name comes from an inspiring hero of legend who once saved the world, and introduced your parents to each other."

It depends on the name... Bastian is a very nice name. But if you name him Sheogorath, I'm not sure he will like it, plus bullying because some kids are a bunch of infant demons right from Hell that have nothing better do to than make other kids' school life miserable.

So I'd say pick your son's name carefully.

Lol... Everyone be like "you kid will be laughed at and bullied"... As if that doesn't happen to kids with "normal names". Like Richard. Kids can be cruel no matter what.

Also, those saying that the kid will hate their name because its unique. My name was a very popular one for the time, and often we were two or three of the same name in my class and I hated my name for a while because of it; I would have preferred a more original name.

I say go for it!! There are especially many beautiful Breton names, considering it is based on Celtic/French culture, but I could see Imperial names (Italian), and even some Elven names, being totally appropriate and not ridiculous at all.

That being said, obviously consider the impact this might have on the kid, choose wisely, and also maybe consider changing the spelling so that it sounds phonetically the same but looks different, or change it up to be inspired by a name without being an actual copy of it. There are many ways you could do this.

But if it's a character you both love, or you just love the sound of the name (for me, I don't particularly love or hate the character, but Eveli is a great sounding name!!) and the name sounds reasonable enough... I say yay!!!

Ps. What you might get is a kid who actually loves their name, with a story to go along with it.

In all seriousness, there are very few names that people *won't* need to spell out for someone else.

BUT you *can* respect your future-child's time by considering their name from the standpoint of a third party.

Variant Spellings: Keep it simple, ideally only a single letter difference vs. 'the normal'.
It's a lot easier for your child to say, "Cindy with an I at the end" as opposed to "Cindy: spelled S-I-N-N-D-E-E"

Pronunciation: Be mindful how different people in society will attempt to say your child's name for the first time.
You don't want your kid's first-grade teacher (and every single substitute teacher) to reasonably mispronounce their name in front of the whole class. Think what might happen when somebody in a hurry tries to say the name -- they might grab the next-closest name they're familiar with.

Here are some names where the intended pronunciation won't be clear: Alyce (Alice? Alleese? Alicia?); Sharonne (Sharon? Sharonee? Sharon-na?); Kaile (Kyle? Kale? Kaylee?)

First Impressions: This is tough, but important.
Many studies have shown people form first impressions about a person simply by their name. It's especially prevalent in the workplace, when people read resumes or choose who they think is the 'best fit' for a position. This is where names that are based on real words, or famous characters get the most attention.

Which name would strike a complete stranger as more trustworthy? 'Grundge' vs. 'George'. Which one seems more likely to be a doctor? Which one more likely in a biker gang?

The Nickname Test: Consider the name from the standpoint of friendly classmates. Now what about mean classmates?
Multi-syllabic names will be shortened. Difficult or uncommon pronunciations will be abbreviated. Mono or disyllabic names will be assumed to stand for something longer.

Initials and Order: Finally, consider the various ways a name can be represented.
Last name first; First and middle initial with last name, First and last initial.
There might not be any perfect combination, but parents can avoid many 'childhood issues' if they took more time considering the child's entire name.
"Benjamin John Upton" ... do the initials test.
"Frances Unique Kew" ... do the initials test.

Well, there is a difference between giving a name according to particular tradition, religious custom or in recognition of family relatives AND naming girl Khalessi before 8 season of GoT

I chose to ignore the last episode...it was so terrible that in my headcannon it does not exist.

That being said, depending on gender and on which race of ESO character you pick, there are a lot of good names in many games. Isn't Kevin Smith's daughter named Zelda?
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...

I'm not, sadly. I can't decide whether that or the poor voice acting is the most jarring for me. Not that it ruins the enjoyment I get from playing, it's just a little sad given how much effort they put into the writing and artistic sides of ESO. If you have to do this, do it as a Middle Name. The child would never have to use it until later in life.

and do you need forum approval for that?

no matter what name you choose, someone will find a way to have fun with it.

My name is Isaac, and in high school people thought that if my name was Jewish I should be too, and I had no intention of wasting my time telling them that I am not a Jew, they always found a way to make fun of it.

Fortunately when I was a kid my grandfather teaches me the greatest lesson in life that one day I will teach my son:

don't give a [snip] what people think or say about you, and if that doesn't work, why do you think I put you into boxing training since you were 5 years old?
