Why is this flaming horse standing around in Summerset near Sunhold?

What is the point of having a flaming horse standing by itself near Sunhold with no explanation?

There should be an NPC nearby.
I believe it's a merchant, that does not offer any explanation for the flaming horse.

I usually only see a horse. I may have seen someone standing next to it, but I can't recall ever being able to interact. That is why I wondered.

somethings not right, the merchant Falordilmo isn't spawning, they usually travel from south of shimmerene to sunhold and back, horse just standing near sunhold unattended

Isn’t this the invisible NPCs bug that they claimed in Patch Notes to have fixed? I still get the Daggerfall banker not being there, despite other players interacting with her.

Overland NPCs do get AI crash or disappear all the time. If that blocks progress there is nothing to do but try to switch instance (fast travel across zones or visit Outlaws) and if that does not help, go do other things and and come back later. Too bad if that happens during another grand finale, like for me halfway the Reach Kingdom of Ash battle. (Could finish it few hours later.)

Lately I've got some random NPCs initially missing, then appearing after few seconds and after that taking their time before getting interactable. That is just server lag.

That would make sense. I vaguely recall seeing the horse with a vendor in the past. Though it has been standing there several weeks now IIRC.

Most likely is that the merchant was standing a bit too close to the flaming horse and it had cooked him alive. And then something came alone and eaten him since there is not point in wasting.

I'm not pointing finger but Ilunsare is standing awfully close by.

Looks like the Summerset merchant decided to visit Sunhold for a bit. I hope he makes it okay. It's a bit spicy in there.

Is the Flaming Horse the Mount you get for the Sunhold Vet Trial Hardmode No Death Achievement? You know the one, that only a handful of people have ever got?

Or is that mount a cat, that might look like this horse?

Do you mean Sunspire? That's a half fire/half ice senche.

What's being referred to here is just a flame atronach horse that a merchant has with him.

I visited the horse and it was standing near a large pillar. I'd check if the merchant spawns inside that pillar...

It looks clearly like a horse, not a cat.

Is he like the dungeon mobs that can run into walls, through locked doors, etc.?

If we can conjure such creature, he can too :) I like that detail, and I wish there were more NPCs with unusual mounts!

I will see if I can find them in game now. If the merchant is bugged and not spawning, this should be fixed :o

I meant the mount for the trial being a cat and the horse looking like the cat's style.

The horse's name is Icarus and he galloped too close to the Sun(hold).

They give children rides for a small fee.

Now your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find some children in Tamriel.....

I just went to Eastern Pass wayshrine which is where I usually see these guys and there was Falordilmo the merchant, walking by himself. Sure enough, his horse Ember is hanging out at Sunhold. I don't know what is going on. Perhaps they had an argument.

Well, why not? Considering that the most common rides in Tamriel are demonic dwemer ghost beings of aedric light and oblivion coldfire, why would the merchant NOT have one of those?

No, I am in noooo way being sarcastic about the over-saturation of ever more ridiculous mounts. :/

Maybe the vendor's rapport with his horse fell too low and the horse refuses to travel with him for a while.
