List of hairstyles still unavailable to players

It's been almost a month, so time to bump this again to keep reminding everyone that this is a hot request!

Dear ZOS, we're still hoping that these hairstyles will come out of NPC limbo and be made available to us!

Especially with Bastian as a companion and not being able to give him a hat of any kind, it's borderline cruel to set up the game such that your RP/character creation-focused players will be literally followed by a hairstyle that they're not able to get in any way. It's bad enough that we get to see these styles constantly, but to not have them available when we can see the models in game is beyond frustrating. Some of these were even available on PTS once upon a time (like SMW, again...), and yet they still didn't release! Why?

The Style Parlor section of the Crown Store gets so little love, when every monthly showcase is packed with more mounts and pets with a handful of costumes... but not much else. A lot of players would jump to buy cosmetics like hairstyles and personalities without question, if the number of hairstyle mods from Skyrim is any indication. And yet, even though these models are in game, they're not coming out. We've only had about 6 monthly showcases offer hairstyles since the end of 2017 when Heroic Poet left the store!

Stop taunting us with these NPC styles and release them! It was hard enough to run through Vateshran Hollows since basically every NPC in there had an unavailable hairstyle (Heroic Poet, Short Mussed Wave, Zeira's style), and now we get to have one of these unavailable hairstyles follow us everywhere in the game!

With June about to begin & another crown crate season incoming in about a month most likely, more hairstyles would certainly be welcome. April & May were pretty lackluster months for the crown store & I was quite disappointed that the Ayleid crates didn't have a hairstyle in them. I certainly hope that the Iron Atro crates will not be the same case. Heroic Poet is long overdue to return since it was retired in late 2017 & hasn't been seen since.

Short mussed wave has to come out in my opinion, otherwise we're going to be spending a long time being taunted by Bastian's unavailable hair following us everywhere we go. In all honesty, I would be pretty shocked if SMW doesn't show up at all in June or July.

I'm nervous about anything interesting being in the crates tbh.

When the PTS cycle started they actually gave us the Iron Atro crates from the preorder even though they weren't even officially revealed. I opened mine and just got basic trash (only the potions etc. rewards) so I thought it just wasn't programmed in, but someone did get some of the datamined stuff in theirs. Makes me think that if there had been anything fun in there, the news would have spread far and wide.

Now they may be incomplete and could still be adding things, which would explain why that thread died quickly and why mine had no rewards above 'fine' level, so maybe I won't give up all hope, but ZOS hasn't exactly been listening to all of us begging for it to release. I tried to check again on the EU PTS, but my game just crashed at the crate screen so I don't know if that's because the crates are not really set up yet.

I really really want them to finally release Short Mussed Wave already. I'm at the point that I don't care how. If they wanted to make bank though, all they need to do is release SMW (and Velsa's style) the same way they did the Hailcinder Elk mount - as a bonus with the 3000 crown pack. That would be a bonus for the newbie boom they're hoping for to get Crowns, and it would force all of us players to buy Crowns at base value instead of using our stockpiles or Crown sellers in game.

Until then, I'll just have to look at Bastian and complain the whole time about how much I wish I could get his hairstyle... :(
I guess I need to figure out another style for my next character since ZOS doesn't want my money to get the style I wanted.

Well, we're getting a hairstyle in this month's showcase... but not one of these NPC ones.

Standing Wave did disappear from the store without warning back in February of 2020, so it has been unavailable for 15 months now. Still, that pales in comparison to the 43 months that Heroic Poet was unavailable, or the 53 months that Wavy Triple-Braided Updo hasn't been seen.

Not to mention of course the continual lack of Short Mussed Wave. I swear every DLC brings a few NPCs with that style... I can only count a few NPCs ever that use things like Barbaric Windblown, but I can count a few NPCs every DLC with Short Mussed. And of course, we'll soon get to see Bastian and his hundreds of clones all taunting us with that style.

I really wish that, whatever is preventing ZOS from releasing it, whether it's the lack of an Argonian morph or whatever, they would get over it and just put it out. It can't be that they want to make Nicolas feel unique, considering the number of NPCs that they've given that style to. What, we can't have it, but you have no problems giving it to the enchanter in Leyawiin or the countless Jester's Fest NPCs?

It's obvious the character designers love that style. We're making so much noise about wanting it (and other styles) to release. Who's the person who's looking at this and saying "nah, we don't need their money."

From the way things are looking, the iron atronach crown crates are going to consist primarily of pets, mounts & body markings for the most part, few Deadlands themed furniture items & iron atro styled weapons. As much as I want any hairstyle, preferably short mussed wave or heroic poet in these crates... I have a bad feeling that this season also will not contain one as well, just like what happened with the Ayleid crates.

Looks like we might be taunted by Bastian's hair for a long time to come if that is the case.

I'm trying so hard to find a hairstyle for my next character, but my #1 choice is Short Mussed Wave... if it would ever release. It's so infuriatingly close to being playable it's not even funny. Did you know it has an item ID in game, so you can link it in chat? The ID is even earlier than the standard styles!
    7P7Ocmtl.png

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom, sorry to bother you - I know Blackwood's release is probably making things crazy, but you said two and a half years ago that you were looking into releasing Jorunn's hairstyle. Did anything ever come out of that? Or maybe anything about releasing other styles?

I'd understand if the Alliance leaders' styles were going to be exclusive to them (and the one Shadowfen NPC who slipped through the cracks), and that there are some highly requested styles like Velsa's that aren't even set up in game with collectible IDs, but what about styles like Short Mussed Wave that are seen on so many NPCs throughout the game, have been tested on PTS, and only need to be made available in the store? It's been well over five years since things like that started showing up on NPCs, but still we haven't been able to buy it.

The part I don't get, is that releasing already existing hairstyles is basically as close as it gets to printing free money. There's at least 5+ styles now that are only seen on NPC's.

Besides, stuff like extra hairstyles should always be available in the store year round! I've long since lost count how often I've told to new players or friends who recently picked up ESO like, 'oh yeah that style you like isn't available right now but may pop up again some day if the stars align'.

As much as I want new hairstyles to come out & ones long retired to return, it is getting more & more difficult to hold out hope for them anymore, especially with the continued focus on housing, mount & pet reskins.

Triple Wavy Briaded Updo - Retired & hasn't been seen since January 2017. (4 years, 5 months)

The Heroic Poet - Retired & hasn't been seen since
    November 2017. (3 years, 8 months)

Short Mussed Wave - First appeared on Nicolas in the Thieves Guild DLC in March 2016, teased in crown store images during most of 2020 now we have a companion following us around with the hair, appeared on numerous NPCs since then & never made available. (5 years, 4 months)

Long hair known as "Velsa's/Veya's hair"- Also first appeared on Velsa in the Theives Guild DLC in March 2016, now we have an altmer in Blackwood who possibly turns us into a Maormer with the hairstyle (5 years, 4 months)

Zeira's hair - Same as the above two, first appeared in March 2016.

Others that are still yet to be released

Mid-parted shoulder length (recently appeared on a male bosmer NPC in Blackwood)
    Portside Shave
    Fluttering Forehead Feathers (argonian hairstyle)
    Assassin-Style Sunset Crest (argonian hairstyle)
    Warrior Topknots
Unnamed hair that appears on King Jorunn & the Stormhold nord NPC

So far, we've had two hairstyles return this year. That was The Casual Rascal for the Jester's Festival during March & The Standing Wave for a week during June, most likely in honor of the Adoring Fan NPC in Oblivion or Admirer in Blackwood.

I'm with you on that one. Every showcase has a bunch of pets, and I think we've only gotten hairstyles in about seven or eight of the monthly showcases since the Crown store started, even though hairstyle mods are huge for the single-player Elder Scrolls games. A lot of people are also asking for the same hairstyles too (Heroic Poet, Short Mussed Wave, and Velsa's seem to be the most popular), so it feels like the Crown Store marketing team isn't looking into this forum at all...

I wonder what the marketing team is thinking sometimes - when they did the CP rework, they said the average account CP was around 400 or so, which suggests that they've got a lot of new/casual players who may not have been around for a long time. And yet there are so many cosmetics that have been out of the store for over 3 years at this point. Do they really think there's not a market for this?

I'd even add a few things to your list: Here's a list of all hairstyles in the game at present. Each has an item ID and can be linked, but not all have actually been made available for sale.

Jorunn's, Zeira's, and Velsa's hairstyles technically don't exist in the files as collectibles (and Velsa's technically was seen on an NPC even earlier than the TG DLC, since it's also Fa-Nuit-Hen's from the Orsinium DLC, Nov 2015). The same was true about things like the Misanthropic Lycanthrope hairstyle - it existed on NPCs since the Wolfhunter DLC, but the collectible wasn't added to the game until it was found in the Crown Crates. As such, it has an item ID of 8049 while the basegame styles (the ones in the Cosmetic Pack: Hair Styles) have IDs 492-583. It's even got a later ID than the newest hairstyle that was made, Seafarer's Crowning Trim, ID 7625. That means I wouldn't expect these to show up anytime soon until the collectibles get added in, even as popular a request as Velsa's hairstyle is.

However, there are a bunch of styles that are in game, so all they need to do to be made available is for someone to put them up for sale. It's interesting to note that some of the Crown store hairstyles have earlier IDs than the basegame ones and some are later, and yet not all of those have released. So far the following styles exist in the files and on NPCs, but never went live at any point.
    • Warrior Topknots (465)
    • Portside Shave (466)
    • Short Mussed Wave (470)
    • Mid-Parted Shoulder Length (1049)
    • Fluttering Forehead Feathers (1050)
    • Assassin-Style Sunset Crest (1054)
    • Color Streaked River Braid (1320)
Those first three are interesting, since those item IDs are lower than the basegame styles, so they were added to the game at the same time (along with the first few styles in the store and from the first few crate seasons). All three were also available to use on PTS at one point. And still, none of those ever made it live. And then there are the styles like Heroic Poet and Wavy Triple-Braided Updo that have been in the store at one point, but have now been completely unavailable for over three and a half years - I imagine many players were not around for all that time, so that's a whole market that could want to buy it.

The worst part about Short Mussed Wave is that it is such a hotly requested style, has been in the game forever, and it's still not available to players while it's put on so many NPCs. I'd wager the list of all NPCs with Short Mussed Wave is longer than the list of all NPCs with any other unreleased style... it's so used on NPCs that it's probably close to the list of all NPCs with unreleased styles combined. There's no hairstyle that looks even close to it, and yet we still don't have it after all this time despite it (quite literally) following us everywhere now.

I'm really sad that it doesn't look like Short Mussed wave is coming, even though everything is set up for it to release. I've tried submitting /feedback about it since now that I've got Bastian behind me I'm seeing it everywhere, but I can't imagine that would do much. Mostly I'd just like it for my next character. I like to take screenshots and document the story, so pretty well if I don't have that style soon, I'll just have to start without it (and then I won't need to buy it since I don't want to retake every screenshot once they finally do decide to release it). I've heard a lot of people say similar things - that they're waiting for something to drop in the store, but then decide to just go with a different option because they're sick of waiting and then don't need to spend the money once what they wanted does exist. I know I'd throw money at the store if they dropped that style.

Please, ZOS, It's about time that we're thinking of next month's showcase. Please have some of these styles in there! Don't let us keep being barred from using a hairstyle that's we see everywhere that we're all dying to get.

Just noticed this in the promo image from the Midyear Mayhem article. A character on a mount who looks like he has either heroic poet or short mussed wave, the redguard woman in the middle has Zeira's hair & the altmer on the far right has Veya's hair. :|

    BP6erHK.jpg

I am crossing my fingers that we see Zeira's hair or Veya's hair in the next datamine, but I don't have my hopes up. It seems like these hairstyles are becoming more commonplace than ever now on all sorts of NPCs. Plus there is an altmer NPC, Ylahizu the Magnificent, found in Blackwood during random encounters who can possibly transform you into a maormer with Veya's hair as well.

    Yep, saw those...

I'm not too convinced about the one in the back - it's hard to make out and could just be the basegame Management Material style. But there's no question that Zeira's and Velsa's styles are on the other two.

I really wish that one of the ZOS higher-ups would get the marketing and Crown Store teams to talk to each other. It's really pretty bad marketing to keep putting unavailable things in the promo art just because 'it looks good.' Seriously, would anyone have cared if those characters had available hairstyles? But instead, we get to see a bunch of hairstyles that we can't get, ones that aren't even in game yet. It's like the Appearance Change token had a guy with Heroic Poet front and center. Or all of the Greymoor promo art and the designer's love affair with the dude in Sea Giant light with Short Mussed Wave. Well, we're still waiting... And now we're waiting while being taunted by Bastian walking around everywhere showing off his wonderful locks and refusing to give us his hairstylist's number. Do they really think that players wouldn't be like "oh, that looks nice, I want to pay money to get that look."

...and this promo art definitely does have a subtext of 'buy stuff!' since most of them are also wearing the Knight Aspirant gear from the current Crown Crate season.

*sigh* I'm so disappointed in how the Crown store releases things that aren't mounts or furnishings. We beg and beg, and yet there are still styles that have been out of the store for over three and a half years, there are styles that have been in game for over 5 years and were just never made available, and we so rarely see anything come into the store...

I'm already expecting that July's going to be a disappointing month for us. As much as I'm praying that The Heroic Poet will make a triumphant return for next month after its 43 month absence, it seems like that may be too much to ask for. And as for the style I want most... Short Mussed's never been in the crown store, only on PTS. The last time we got a new hairstyle up for direct purchase (i.e. not in a Crown Crate) was the Ragged Royal Page in May 2019, so that's not something that's common. And the last time we've gotten a new style up that didn't have a morph for all races was... Adorable Assassin's first drop in July 2017? Unless you're counting the Barbaric Windblown in that pack from May 2018.

I guess the best we have to hope for is that the next Jester crate season will have something? It'd be wonderful to have an official name for Velsa's and to see it in the datamines... but only if that's followed by it actually releasing. There's enough stuff in datamine limbo that really needs to be freed...

But yeah, if anyone from ZOS is reading this, we have loads of people waiting for Short Mussed wave to finally go live! Also styles like Heroic Poet that were available at one point, but not since 2017! And those other NPC styles like Velsa's that could be playable at any time! We have crowns burning holes in our pockets... if you just give us these styles...

Another showcase without any hairstyles at all... :(

Some of the things they bring back seem really odd. Tel Galen's been out of the store forever and is a good thing to return, but then you have things like the Dark Shaman and Doeskin costumes that were last seen in the store last September. Those costumes are returning after less than a year, meanwhile there are hairstyles that have gone for over three years without making a reappearance...

Also the crows - I wouldn't get them myself, but it is nice to see some exciting datamined things release. But again, we've got hairstyles that have been sitting in datamines for years that never saw the light of day; wish they could also get a release. I don't know why the store is being so stingy with releasing things when they could make more sales by just releasing a bit more... it's digital content after all...

I'm a bit bummed about this. I'm trying to make my next character and I'm just stuck on which hairstyle to give him - there's a style I like but it looks weird on him, and then there's a style that looks pretty good, but it's pretty generic and I'm not such a fan of it in the first place. I want him to have Short Mussed. I made the mistake of just throwing together a quick photoshop mockup, and it's perfect - even a quick photoshop chop job makes the other two styles look like absolute trash in comparison... and it seems like they'll never release it. :'(

I'd kill for that style to release. Seriously, I'd pay double or triple crowns just to get it.

I do notice that they're bringing back the Baandari crates - I guess that's to go with the Khajiit theme, but that's also the crate season that has Bastian's tattoos in it. Also the True-Sworn motif is inbound, which is Mirri's defult gear. I'd like to think that they're allowing us to get some of the companion cosmetics, but I know that's all just coincidence.

    Please release Short Mussed Wave...

...it's hard not to picture some ZOS Crown store team member rubbing their hands evilly and saying "Ooh, how else can we disappoint out players! Maybe if we never give them hairstyles, they'll suddenly want to buy all of the non-combat pets! After all, it's all cosmetic so they won't care, right!"

Well, no good news in the latest datamine - there's a hairstyle, but it's just a yellow version of The Standing Flame. None of the NPC styles.

But I did notice something else - there are a few NPC styles we missed. Obviously Emeric's and Ayrenn's (but Ayrenn's is actually part of her helmet, not a hairstyle), but Lyris also got a new braid with Greymoor that's modelled on and not textured.

Then there's this one - seen on two of the random non-interactable training vampire NPCs in Greyhome from the Markarth prologue:

I guess the September showcase'll come soon, and then there will be the Grim Harlequin crates and the Blackwood event next month as well. Still, I highly doubt that any unreleased hairstyles will go up in the showcase or be some of the event rewards, and I don't know if they'll have any hairstyles in the new crates beyond Yellow Standing Wave.

I'm still hoping they'll eventually figure out that this is a popular hairstyle and finally release it, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. I've just started my character that I wanted to give this style to and I had to go with my second choice hairstyle. Yeah, I can change it at any time if they ever do decide to release it, but I'm one of those people who does screenshots and storytelling, so changing something cosmetically would mean redoing all of the screenshots...

Knowing my luck, that style will release when I'm about 3/4 of the way through questing - still not at the end so I can justify changing things, but also far enough from the beginning that it'd be an insane amount of work to redo all of the shots.

With the exception of the atrocious standing wave and all its variants, hairstyles are the one thing I always buy, regardless if I can immediately use it on a character, since it's just nice to have the options available.

ESO's relentless content and fashion updates still amaze me to this day, but at the same time it's incomprehensible how such a simple thing (well in comparison to whole new zones, dungeons and armour looks) like new hairstyles isn't added on a regular basis, especially if there's already over 10 of them already seen on NPC's across the world. They could add one new style a month, and in a year we'd still see new hairstyles in the store! Everyone likes hairstyles, gimme that skooma please.

As someone who is still appalled by how BAD MOST of the hairstyles are I will say that we desperately need options! I'm so tired of using the same 3 hairstyles for 17 characters! LOL

Well, the fact that they brought back heroic poet at the beginning of last month & are bringing Triple Wavy Braided Updo later this month, does give me a glimmer of hope that we may get hairstyles eventually that were never available to begin with.

We should have the Grim Harlequin Crates likely coming to the crown store towards the end of September, but I have a bad feeling that the only hairstyle in that season is going to end up being the terrible recolor of Standing Wave aka "The Adoring Stand" over any others that have been long requested like Short Mussed Wave or Mid-Parted Shoulder Length... still awaiting the day when Veya's/Velsa's hair & Zeira's hair will be datamined, but who knows when that will be.

It would be nice if either SMW or Mid-Parted were in the next season, but Adoring Stand is likely going to be the only hairstyle of that crate season I fear, I hope I'm wrong.

I know this is a super wild suggestion, but I would love for the long elven braid to also work on... you know... elves.
