I mean my experience so far with MS games is... disappointing & less than ideal. I have this new MS Flight Sim and it is installed through MS app store... Worst way to install & play the game. No joke.
If the only way to play some MS / Bethesda / Zenimax games in the future will be to install them through that weird app store... You can not even see where the install directory is, nor set it yourself... and all game files are hidden from you...
But how are other bought-studio games being sold? Sea of Thieves is on Steam now, Obisidian's next game Grounded is coming out on Steam, MS Flight Sim is on Steam, Halo Infinite is listed as "coming soon" there, etc.
Doesn't seem like they're going to be limiting their PC games to just the Windows Store. (Now, if people want to get them on Game Pass, or do the whole "can play it on PC or XBox" thing, then I think it would be a Windows Store thing?)
They said "some" bethesda titles are gonna be xbox/pc only, if ES6 is one of them then I'm sorely tempted to get an Xbox instead of a PS5. What does it mean for eso? Probably nothing, I can't see them pulling the PS servers down, but if there is ever a sequel to eso, then it might well be xbox only. Time will tell but its definitely looking like xbox is the console to get if you like bethesda's games.

What they said: all current titles that are available on other consoles than the Xbox and PC will still get updates etc. But all of the upcoming new games (e.g. new Fallout, Elder Scrolls titles, Starfield etc.) will be exclusive to Xbox and PC (and everywhere where Gamepass is).
ESO won’t be affected as it’s a cross-console game already and will be supported as such.
I‘m pretty sure Microsoft will allow Zenimax to provide / port games on the Nintendo Switch as they’ve done in the past, but Sony / PlayStation won’t get any new Zenimax games in the futures - which makes sense after a $7.5 billion acquisition.

Ideas of exclusivity of major games on Xbox are ridiculous. They currently have 3 tent pole unique titles: Forza, Gears, and Halo.
If you want a litmus test wait till Halo comes out this year. If Halo can’t drive significant console sales then exclusivity is dead.

No that's not what they said. They said:

This isn’t possible as PS5 is hardly available worldwide, so don’t make up numbers just to prove your point.
And it’s Xbox and PC which is important. If you’re having a gaming PC, you’d most likely don’t buy the game for the Xbox at all. If you don’t have a gaming PC and just a Playstation, it’s more likely that you buy an Xbox for the exclusives instead of a gaming PC which would cost twice the amount of a Series S / X.Seraphayel wrote: »They said "some" bethesda titles are gonna be xbox/pc only, if ES6 is one of them then I'm sorely tempted to get an Xbox instead of a PS5. As I said, this is roundabout saying to the crowd that they’re exclusive without sparkling too much outrage about exclusivity (although only PlayStation fans seem to be so against exclusives except it’s PS exclusives, then they are great). What he said can basically mean what I added about Nintendo Switch - Microsoft and Nintendo do have a friendship whereas it’s a rivalry with Sony.

The numbers are already out there. Both consoles are selling around the world but Xbox as expected is anemic in Japan. And as for Xbox + PC if you're selling mainly to the PC crowd (now split because of Mac's ditching of Intel) you're taking major hits on console manufacturing which is already being sold at a loss (unless you're Nintendo).
And we are coming out of COVID and finances are tight for many many people. Owning both a gaming PC and a second console that isn't cheap is a real issue. People will make rational choices. The PC crowd will stay with PC. But many gamers are already switching over to PS5. Some early adopters may have gotten both but if trends repeat themselves you'll see those Xbox sales seriously lag behind again.

As of last month it's 2.8 million xbox units sold vs 4.2 million PS5 units sold. Though not quite the "twice as many" that was mentioned, it is still a hefty number, even more so considering availability(or lack there of) of the ps5.

That's just good PR. They've gotten their approval for the Bethesda purchase, and they're making a big deal about the games being available on Game Pass. Of course they'd shove those games to the head of the "optimize these NOW!" line.

I would be surprised if they ever optimize the ps5 versions. I am sure they worked on optimizing some of the titles, but my guess is that they will be permanently shelving any ps5 FPS increases for any of the PS4’s older titles such as F4 or Dishonored.

Isn’t the FPS increase due to special Xbox technology? That’s what I get from that article. So unless Sony isn’t having a similar technology, it makes sense that the Xbox versions get optimized.
I still am perplexed why after 7 years, ESO still does not offer account transfers to other platforms or better yet, just be able to login on any platform and play...just read the same databases. Right. It's probably not that simple, but if other games can and are doing it, then why can't a AAA game called ESO do it as well? Sales pitch: ZOS could charge for transfers or an additional fee to be able to cross-login or something.Yes, start over on PC... it’s worth it in the long run.

I am not aware of any new tech that is unique to Xbox, ps5 games have been getting FPS increases too. I think it’s just something the clients developers need to do.

I mean, it’s said in the first paragraph of your linked article from The Verge:
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass platform just got a huge boost with the addition of 20 new Bethesda Softworks titles starting today, and now a quarter of those games will be getting performance boosts on the next-gen Xbox consoles in an upcoming update. The performance gains are in frame rate thanks to an appropriately named new feature Microsoft revealed last month called FPS Boost, which can roughly double frame rates of older games using new Xbox hardware without requiring developers do any manual work.
