Honestly, after watching the Bethesda and Xbox Roundtable, I kinda feel like in 3 years having eso on PS5 going to be more trouble than not. I've invested so much on ESO on the Playstation console but if ZeniMax and its future outside of ESO are gonna be leaning towards XBOX and PC going forward...then why have a PS5? I mostly play Bethesda Games and I'm trying to not have multiple consoles. I have a Gaming PC...but I know they not gonna let me transfer my PS account to PC or XBOX. In a sense, I'm trapped or start completely over with achievements and all.

So is XBOX and PC bethesda like games in 4 years and Sony PS like anime, Final Fantasy like games? I am more of a role-playing game kinda guy. I dont like playing multiple elder scrolls games on different systems. The reason why I got a gaming PC is because PS doesnt allow mods BUT xbox do...

What should I do yall?

Start over ESO on PC? Only other games I play on PS5 right now is ESO, Destiny, Warframe and Genshin Impact...

What would you do? Does anyone else feel like they being spread thin between the console wars?

They said "some" bethesda titles are gonna be xbox/pc only, if ES6 is one of them then I'm sorely tempted to get an Xbox instead of a PS5. What does it mean for eso? Probably nothing, I can't see them pulling the PS servers down, but if there is ever a sequel to eso, then it might well be xbox only. Time will tell but its definitely looking like xbox is the console to get if you like bethesda's games.

Bethesda games already on the PS aren't going anywhere.

"Live service" (I hate that term) and multiplayer focused games that Bethesda creates going forward will likely be on PS.

It is the single player games (excluding ES6 which I highly doubt will be an exclusive) that are most likely to end up MS exclusives. Think things like the next DOOM, Wolfenstein, maybe Starfield.

How much that means to you is up to you.

Also keep in mind all opinions on the matter are purely speculation for the time being.

ESO is a constant revenue source, so odds are it would be a boon to MS to keep the game alive and healthy on PS. They're a corporation first and foremost, and they'll do what will make the most sense economically. It's why Minecraft is on PS4.

That said, if for whatever reason they do shut things down on PS, I really hope they let us do account transfers.

At the end of the day, if the answer were as simple as "making all future Bethesda releases MS exclusives is best for MS", then MS would have been pushing the idea of across the board Bethesda exclusives from the day the acquisition was announced.

The realities and complexities of the games industry being what they are, it will be most beneficial to MS to make certain Bethesda games exclusives, and to make some as widely available as possible.

They almost certainly have a team of actuaries whose primary job is deciding how best to release future individual games working overtime right now.

    Unlike the Mac client... 😒

That should be a warning to everyone. Nothing is off the table. Just because it’s on the PS today, tomorrow is not guaranteed.

    🙄

Sure, and I can't guarantee that the Sun will rise tomorrow either. But 1/3rd of the playerbase weighed against whoever played on Mac is about as sure a bet as can exist.

    Imho.

If you have a PS5 and a gaming PC, that would seem like the ideal situation. You can play Playstation games on your PS5 (including ESO), and play XB/PC games on your PC. What's the problem? They're certainly not going to cancel ESO on PS5 (not until they cancel it on everything), so what's the need to start over or move your account?

edit: for the record, I have a gaming PC and I've had a PS1-4. I never get new-gen consoles until a few years into the new cycle (my first/only PS4 is a Pro). Never had an XBox, don't anticipate ever having one.

I learned that if the game comes to Xbox it will come to PC as well so I wont freak out haha. I was wondering if it may be required to get xbox cause games may not come to PC, but Microsoft is Xbox technically.

Also, I want to play Oblivion with a controller :D and im looking at that game pass for PC But cant find an answer if Oblivion version of XBOX 360 will be same Oblivion on PC. the contoller emulators to me arent the same...

You think you miss understood. ESO is already on Playstation and always will be. It's the new games that haven't been developed yet that may be exclusive to Microsoft. I will not buy an xbox ever so if it's not on Playstation i just won't be playing it. ES 6 maybe exclusive and if it is then the oh well. I won't give Microsoft my money. A Microsoft PC will slow to a crawl after 5 years even if you do nothing but install their updates. Install Linux on the same PC and watch your speed return .

To think that future Bethesda games will be on PS4/5 is wrong. Xbox desperately needs exclusivity on their games and they just got it. And rightly so. You don't see sony Sharing Bloodborne,Spiderman,God of War, FFXIV, ect. And there are many that buy Playstations just for those games.

So yes now that Microsoft owns these trademarks I foresee them doing the same to boost the sales of their console. To not do so would leave money on the table and be a fools errand.

microsoft and sony sell their consoles at a loss and make it up in the sales of their games. selling their games on more devices means more money not less.

Sorry, no. The real money is in the platform, not the games. Sony and MS may sell their console hardware at a loss, but they more than make it back on the cut they get from every third party game sold on their platform. If keeping Zenimax games exclusive to Xbox sells more Xbox consoles, that means more people will buy all of their games for the Xbox ecosystem, which will result in far more money for MS than whatever they might get out of making their own games multiplatform.

Edit: It's important to note that MS also needs to be a little careful about their corporate image. If they make everything exclusive all at once, that could trigger a backlash and push people to buy PS5s in protest. The result is that, for now, they have to pretend that their ultimate goal isn't exclusivity, and release at least a few games as multiplatform in the short/medium term.

Tbh. Even as a PC player I am scared. When big companies find themselves in a monopolistic position, they abuse it... like they very abuse it.... And this is without a doubt one of those moments when MS will be kinda in that position.

I mean my experience so far with MS games is... disappointing & less than ideal. I have this new MS Flight Sim and it is installed through MS app store... Worst way to install & play the game. No joke.

If the only way to play some MS / Bethesda / Zenimax games in the future will be to install them through that weird app store... You can not even see where the install directory is, nor set it yourself... and all game files are hidden from you...

I mean... I can not imagine playing TES 6 without one of the key "flagship" trademarks of TES brand - that is modding & with provided modding tools...

Also, game pass is another scary part, as what is worst about it is that some titles may simply be an "exclusive" to it, without the ability to buy & own the game... :o:#

I hate to think of a scenario in which I have this one "single player offline game" that the only way to play is to pay monthly fee....

Yeah like all consoles kept the same architecture since they started. That’s why backwards compatibility was never an issue on consoles. And for the ps5, there is no need to update the eso client from the PS4 one because the architecture did not change. /sarcasm

No consoles tended to change architecture a lot as is much less need for backward comparability.
First you still have your old console or it would be pretty irrelevant. Yes you might want to play older games of an series but that is a bit niche so irrelevant for billion dollar companies.

And yes if PS5 had selected an radical new architecture ESO might not been ported. Who would be very bad as the game keep adding more armor styles, mounts and other stuff who has to be loaded.
It did not, the world of computing is different from 15 years ago then an 3 year old gaming pc was junk.

An PS5 is an updated version of the AMD laptop setup used in PS4, yes the drive is amazing :)
No not dissing PS4 and One both good systems who still works well today but getting a bit old.
But none are dropping backward portability, easy to develop for and easy to port to systems for something who give 20% more performance in strong headwind if lucky.

PS5 can run the PS4 version of ESO, pretty sure the performance is better. But it can not use the full potential of the PS5 as consoles tend to work more directly with hardware you run in an comparability mode.
And yes they take their time for something who should be pretty straight forward but it might be issues.

Doesn't seem like they're going to be limiting their PC games to just the Windows Store. (Now, if people want to get them on Game Pass, or do the whole "can play it on PC or XBox" thing, then I think it would be a Windows Store thing?)

I think Microsoft was very patent over Sony marketing on exclusives. Since Sony won't change their practices and "PS5 is better because exclusives" is still the thing so at some point, it makes sense that Microsoft focus on that. So if you lose access to Elder Scrolls (but likely not ESO) blame Sony. Microsoft probably wouldn't haven't made this purchase if Sony went for limited time exclusives, but Sony doesn't play nice with others. Microsoft has been all about play everywhere for years.

That said I don't see ESO going exclusive given the existing player base and that it can introduce new players to Elder Scrolls. However, I could see Sony making updates harder in revenge so worry probably makes sense, but not fear.
