Seems like you are so caught up in mudballing people that you don't see the perspective that "please stop mudballing me" is not particularly petty to ask, but continuing to mudball someone who has asked you to stop is incredibly petty to do
We have all been dragged down to pettiness levels by interacting with this post.

Stop trying to say that the key to stopping harassment is to run and hide from harassers, and recognize that harassers warrant punishment for their intentional efforts to cause problems for other players
you're talking about a guy who was throwing a mudball in a video game as if he's some sort of sexual harassment criminal.

The mudballer was breaking the TOS by continued harassment after being asked to stop. This is no longer just the OP's personal problem.
By reporting them, the OP upholds the standard of behavior we all agreed to in the TOS. If you don't like the thought of being accountable for your actions, maybe you shouldn't have agreed to the TOS.
By reporting them, the OP insures that ZOS has a record of this player's bad behavior, making it more likely that the player will face consequences if they have a habit or continue their choice to target players after they've been asked to stop. Again, if that player didn't want an entry on their rap sheet, all they had to do was stop when asked.
The mudballing player made the incorrect decision: to continue throwing mudballs after having been asked to stop, specifically targeting the OP for harassment. (You sure you want to defend that behavior?)
The OP made the correct decision: report, then leave the situation. In doing so, they upheld the TOS and made it easier for any past or future reports against the mudballer to prove that this is a habit of harassment.
Seriously, thanks OP.

Take a step back. You're sitting here literally saying this dude should face vile punishment for throwing a mudball in a virtual world when OP did nothing to put a stop to it aside from ask.
The player will not face consequences because that would be absolutely silly. Imagine being a mod and sitting down for work. You read the most recent ticket. It's a dude complaining about having mudballs tossed at him after asking to stop.
Do you think:
A. the mod is going to do some swift justice to right this total wrong by banning a potential customer to their game (aka the thing that lets you guys keep playing)
or
B. The mod is going to roll his eyes at once again someone having an issue with a player they MORE THAN LIKELY will never see again that was throwing mudballs and simply ignore the report.
Straight to the point: ZoS is not going to ban or punish someone who just threw mudballs (without typing any text insults/threats) because then that gets rid of business.

The only reason this is even a discussion is because some people try to bring real world social issues into a MMO.
I would even be cool with ZoS making the ignore feature extend to blocking Emotes from ignored player. That's how far it should go. Punishing someone in a game with real life think is absurd. There was no verbal or physical harassment, Gina said that that player 'should stop' not have to stop. Tea bagging can be taken a sexual (reaching here) but mudballs? Really?

Hey, uh, did you check ought those links to ZOS's comments on the matter I posted above?
If not, you should. And if you're going to argue that ZOS itself doesn't think repeated mudballing after being asked to stop is worthy of disciplinary action - usually a warning for a first offense, as you'd know if you read it, let's not get too hyperbolic here - I don't see much point in arguing over it further with you.
Have a great day, and if someone ever asks you to stop mudballing them, do yourself a favor, and stop.

OP chose the best option, they asked the person to stop
the person did not stop despite being asked
but next you will say the person should have done more or something else that would have protected the abuser from suffering repercussions
and now you are complaining that not treating the abuser well is somehow disgusting, while their behaviour was perfectly acceptableWhereArtThouVampires wrote: »No, I don't recognize that a guy who was throwing mudballs deserves to be punished. Then go play the other games without mudball throwers -- the official company position is that we can and should report abusive players and if you are afraid of being reported or something because of a rule you think is "dumb and silly" then it's better you go now than head out with some forum post ranting about how stupid you think it is you got banned for harassing someone
1. How do you know that guy logged into the video game to harass others? For all you know he was just throwing a mudball and decided to keep doing it because OP more than likely pestered him not to. We don't even know the other side of the story here, lol. Or even have any evidence posted.

For clarification: Im complaining that saying this dude, whose name OP probably already has forgotten because this is such a non-issue it's absolutely funny, should be punished for throwing a virtual mudball in a n 18+ video game. Yes. He isn't an abuser. He is literally just using an emote as ZoS intended. What exactly has he abused? OP's mudball feelings?

It's an in-game emote. You don't want to witness it? Go do literally anything else in any other section of the game or don't even play the game at all.
This is such a non-issue it's mind boggling we're throwing terms like 'harrassment' and 'abuser' around for a GUY WHO THREW A MUDBALL in a video game. An 18+ video game that has literal *** and murder cults. Yet the issue we view as harrassment is. . . .throwing a mudball?

You have no appreciation of how harassment online affects people's mental health do you? Hopefully you will never understand, because to truly understand you have to have experienced harassment and its effects.
Harassment online is as detrimental to people's mental health as harassment in the real world, in some cases more so, whilst those that throw mudballs for fun are doing so for fun and I'm certainly not asking for mudballs to be removed from the game, any more than I would ask for the ability to teabag to be removed. All I ask is that people learn to respect others, that they stop being keyboard warriors defending the rights of the person doing the harassment amd trying to make out that the person who was made to feel uncomfortable was in the fact the person in the wrong.
Its that kind of attitude that leads to mudballs and teanagging getting banned.
@WhereArtThouVampires killing someone once in PvP is not harassment, killing someone repeatedly in PvP is not harassment except where it is clear that one person is being specifically targeted is harassment. As with all things there are fine lines that people can choose to cross. In the case of the OP the person throwing the mudballs chose to cross the line, and no matter how people try to defend it it is harassment.

Mudballs is the only thing I'd report someone for except for botting in Cyro. I hate the mudballs so much, would prefer to have ZoS remove them from the game completely however.

Please allow us to disable the visual effect of mudballs (in settings) so it can ruin this type of behaviour. or make it so you automaticly ask for a duel whenever u throw mudballs at people. Increase the cooldown to 1 mudball every 60 seconds, or do something else.

Not going to argue with you over a mudball. It is not harassment in any way. Period. if ZoS decides to classify it as harassments they will be setting up a very unhealthy precedent. Everything in the game that players can interact with will come into subject. Watch what you wish for.

First one, I ask them nicely to stop, second one it's either a report or start to insult or bait them. I could write my opinion about people who throw mudballs here, but I'd be removed by the mods so I won't.
