Lets say this bullies and Harassers exist in the Game. It seems that they also exist and tend to troll the forums. I do find the mudball the most offensive thing that happens outside of the ocean of salt that flows in the pvp zones. If the mudballs went away id be happy.. But its part of the game and you are forced to accept the attention as there is no opt out. I wish there was and opt out of that kind of kind of attitude but it does not exist in the game yet.

I haven't counted the total number of wayshrines in ESO but i'm sure yourself and OP could use any one of them to escape such terrible MMO living conditions.

ZOS doesn't support harassment via mudballs. In response to someone threatening to mud ball others, ZOS said:

While we assume you're kidding, we want to make it clear that though we understand your feelings regarding the cost of the elk mount, taking it out on other players is not acceptable. This can be considered griefing which can lead to disciplinary action against your game account.

This one is more anecdotal, but here's a reddit post where someone got a warning for repeated mudding: https://amp.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/5ix8f0/psa_mud_balls_can_be_considered_harassment/

In addition, this seems to meet Gina's criteria for harassment via teabagging:
    NOTABLE-01387.jpg
    And
"As with many things in-game, context is very important. The act of standing and squatting over another NPC or character to teabag them can be considered a form of harassment which can be a violation of the Terms of Service (ToS). As with all forms of harassment, if a player asks you to stop a behavior, you need to stop. If you continue to teabag someone that asks you to stop, that is a violation of the ToS and may lead to your account being suspended or even permanently banned. Hope this helps clear things up"
    Source: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/546727/was-it-ever-confirmed-if-tea-bagging-is-against-tos-now/p1

So all of you whining that the OP shouldn't have reported that mudballer ought to review the bit about "As with all forms of harassment, if a player asks you to stop a behavior, you need to stop."

Maybe you should quit defending a textbook example of harassment in violation of the TOS, and remind yourselves that if someone asks you to stop bothering them, you stop.

Side note: it's a little awkward that this topic comes up often enough that I have ZOS' comments on it bookmarked. Apparently, some folks are really dedicated to running around nudballing other players...and some forum posters are really dedicated to defending it. I figure that, as with many things, it can be all in good fun...or it may not be mutually fun for both people, in which case the correct answer is to stop when asked.

You’d think the mods be here soon to stop the trolling against the OP....

Disagreeing with them is trolling? I'm not sure who is trolling I just noticed posts of people who didn't agree with the OP.

This is a huge issue not only in ESO forums but in zone chat as well. People are branded trolls because they don't agree or have a difference of opinion from someone else in game. Not saying there are not genuine trolls but the word gets thrown around so much it has lost it's meaning. Just like the words Nazis and Racist have lost theirs.

What we are talking about here is harassment. By any conceivable definition of the word.

The person was asked to stop and they persisted, even intensifying. What kind of self-serving bully thinks that this is in any way acceptable behaviour!

These things have been nothing but a tool of trolls for the moment it was created. Why the studio never created an opt out option for what was blatantly going to become a source of anger and tension in the community I have have no idea!

As someone who experienced prolonged and violent bullying in school, that sense of helpless victimisation reacts in exactly the same way to these things because they are used in exactly the same way. To annoy, upset, and harass! To distress!

As an Argonian, I mudball lots of people.
    First, good for your dryskin.
Second, MOISTURE is good for you, makes scales shiny
    Third, *Throws Mudball and runs*

Please dont spoil the fun of mudballing people just because you got butthurt about people doing it to you. Simply ignore the person or change instance.
Seems like a petty thing to ask, and you dont see the other sides perspective. Did the Mudballers killed you? Did they steal from you or caused harm in any way? No, you got offended with another human interacting with you.
Also, I know it can be frustrating when you ask people to stop and they dont do so. People are like that, and don't ruin it for the rest of us just because YOU had a bad experience. As I said, change zone, instance, or simply mudball them back.

Often i find myself getting bombarded with mudballs, and especially this one guy yesterday kept targetting me, i gently asked him to stop and that only seemed to fuel the fire, as he actually stopped throwing it at others, and only threw at me after that. I ported out of the instance and reported the guy.

Please allow us to disable the visual effect of mudballs (in settings) so it can ruin this type of behaviour. or make it so you automaticly ask for a duel whenever u throw mudballs at people. Increase the cooldown to 1 mudball every 60 seconds, or do something else.

its not really important what you do, but please change it. Its not fun getting harrassed by mudballs, knowing you cant do anything to stop it.

you could potentially try not getting bothered by a virtual mudball being tossed at your character.

Most people tend to stop if you don't message them. If you message them, it shows they're annoying you. Thus why they won't stop.

I see the forum post was already screenshotted here.

But Gina’s Discord message in that thread was also clear that “spamming emotes is fine, though if someone asks you to stop, you should stop.”

Most people in game are able to understand that, so there is no need for ZOS to take away the toys from everyone because of the behavior of the few who can’t.

At the end of the day OP is the problem. Wants other people to play and behave EXACTLY as they do, and will seek further action if not the case.

The OP certainly is NOT the problem. The problem is the mistaken belief that harassment in a digital world is ok. Harassment, no matter what form it takes, is harassment and has a detrimental effect on people and harassment is NEVER ok.

As I said before I have no problems with mudballs and throw them myself, I have issues with any form of harassment, when asked to stop the thrower should have respected that and stopped, not targeted the OP all the more. That is harassment which is against the TOS and also, well, just out of order

so because of this a whole new setting feature that disables a product people have rightfully earned should be added because of OP's feelings?

And imagine quite literally getting banned because you kept throwing a mudball at someone in game.

What next, people getting banned because they get killed and killing is a form of harassment?

The lesson here is to just grow some thicker skin, people. These are virtual mudballs. In a video game. That can be escaped by easily running to literally any other part of tamriel. If you choose to sit there and continue to endure being pelted by mudballs, that's kinda your problem is it not?

I see no reason for an entire new settings option to be included for this. At that point, where's the setting that disables blood and dead bodies popping on the ground? That is a form of harassment to the highest degree.

Don't want the chance to be pelted by mudballs? Don't play a massively multiplayer online game where pretty much anything can happen. The guy didn't insult you. He didn't threaten you. He was just throwing a mudball in a virtual world, having fun. OP could have left at any point.

OP may not be the problem per-se, but he didn't exactly try anything to solve it himself aside from asking the dude to stop. Meanwhile there's literally a door of options available for him to escape such vile 'harassment'

A solution to this if mudballs and emotes bother you so much is to simply change zones or cities. I understand how you can get annoyed over it but reporting someone for having harmless fun is a bit excessive. The effect only lasts a few seconds.

Personally have no problem with being mudballed, and am sure there are people who get upset that I spam my emote to surround myself with cawing crows
but it is not rage about mudballs to report abusers for being abusive

Anyone who wants a community where we can mudball each other without fear of reprisal wants a community where no one abuses the feature to the point that reprisal becomes imminent
right now it is balanced, and in the case of OP it was expressed as a clear case where the offender was asked to stop and instead made a more concentrated point of turning mudballs into a bad thing

You label people with a difference of opinion bullies, trolls and harassers.

I find it fascinating to observe how people get upset over others actions in a video game, then go to such great lengths to have all the rules changed to suit them, all the players banned who they don't like, and throw names around to anyone who disagrees.

But it's the mudballers and teabaggers fault.

The actual problem is peoples imaginary pride within an MMO, like your character is an actual reflection of your real life personality.

Here's an element that I think most of the mudball defenders are missing with with "You should've just ignored it" or "You should've just moved on" advice that amounts to "OP, you should've just solved your own problem."

The mudballer was breaking the TOS by continued harassment after being asked to stop. This is no longer just the OP's personal problem.

By reporting them, the OP upholds the standard of behavior we all agreed to in the TOS. If you don't like the thought of being accountable for your actions, maybe you shouldn't have agreed to the TOS.

By reporting them, the OP insures that ZOS has a record of this player's bad behavior, making it more likely that the player will face consequences if they have a habit or continue their choice to target players after they've been asked to stop. Again, if that player didn't want an entry on their rap sheet, all they had to do was stop when asked.

The mudballing player made the incorrect decision: to continue throwing mudballs after having been asked to stop, specifically targeting the OP for harassment. (You sure you want to defend that behavior?)

The OP made the correct decision: report, then leave the situation. In doing so, they upheld the TOS and made it easier for any past or future reports against the mudballer to prove that this is a habit of harassment.

    Seriously, thanks OP.
