PSA: Buy writ voucher recipes BEFORE Flames of Ambition goes live!

They have been experimenting with some writ voucher merchant changes on the Flames of Ambition DLC PTS, and it looks like they are going to go Live with it, so here's a friendly reminder to go to Rolis and Faustina and buy whichever furnishing recipes you're missing BEFORE the new patch hits.

After the patch, individually purchasable recipes will be bundled together so you need to buy all of them even if you only want one:
'As usual, Rolis has handed some of his prior furnishing plans over to his assistant, Faustina Curio, the Master Writ Achievement merchant. In order to help manage the growing number of furnishing plans on her store, she’s consolidated her offerings. Her furnishing plans are now grouped together into Folios based on when they first appeared in her store. Opening a Folio will give you tradable copies of all of the plans inside and costs the same as it would have cost to buy all the recipes in that Folio individually.'

n55oh6rb7vwc.png

All writ voucher furnishing recipes are affected by this bundling, except the most recent.
List of recipes that will remain directly purchasable:
- the 7 Solitude/Vampire recipes added in Stonethorn,
yprn089as7sz.png
- the 7 new recipes that will be added in Flames of Ambition
8g9qi3bdqm0i.png
- the 4 old Target Skeleton/Centurion recipes
As a result, if you want any other recipe than ^ these (e.g. Elsweyr ones or the old Crafting recipes) you will need 600-1100 writ vouchers saved up to buy these bundles.

Also, the bundles don't have previews so you'll have to look it up online to find out which Folio contains the recipe that you want (for example 'Ebonheart Furnishing Folio' or 'Dark Elf Furnishing Folio'). And the naming of the bundles is also rather arbitrary, as 'Dragonhold Furnishing Folio' includes the recipes added in Harrowstorm which are Elsweyr-themed (there is a separate 'Elsweyr Furnishing Folio' for recipes added in Scalebreaker). 🤪 Good luck to new players trying to figure out all these new folios without any way to Preview them.

Thank you for the heads up! I really wish they weren’t making this change as I usually don’t want all in a set, not for my hard-earned writ vouchers anyway. I had been saving up for a transmute station but it looks like that shall be put on hold...

I might save up to buy these, I kinda wish they would do it the way they've done it for the other collections, even if that is more randomness in a game already rife with randomness.

AFAIK, the "newest" ones (those out less than a year) will still be available for purchase individually. It's only the old ones from years prior that are being combined in this way.

But, they should still be previewable so you know what you're buying within each one.

Neither do I, but I figured it was pointless to leave feedback in the PTS forum because ZoS gonna ZoS.

I understand this is being done in part to keep the UI from getting too cluttered, so it is a necessary change on some level. And certainly, keeping them still available is better than these recipes rotating out of stock entirely.

What I'd prefer they'd have done is make it so you pay 100 vouchers to draw one plan you have not yet learnt on that character. Having to slap down 700+ vouchers at all once is... yikes.

They need to include which recipes are in each bundle, otherwise this is going to be a mess.

If they are sell-able (and I hope they are!) then we can more easily buy stuff we are missing, which is a good thing.

If you get things you already have as recipes that you can sell, then that would be ok. It looks like the bundles are cheaper than buying the recipes individually is now, but I'd need to check.

iirc they said that the bundles would contain all of the recipes and would cost the same price as if you just bought them all individually. They did make it sound like opening the folio would give you the recipes, and then you could do with them as you please (e.g. sell extras at a guild store)

I saw it on PTS but I didn't get a chance to test it since I just did a bunch of buying right before the PTS got copied.

Yes, that is correct. That is why I made this thread, to remind people to get recipes they are missing NOW, before the patch. If you are missing the 'recent ones' (described above) then no worries you can buy them 1 by 1 after the patch too. But if it's the older ones, buy them now. Or you'll need to spend 600-1100 vouchers on it, and then have to sell unwanted recipes (probably for poor price compared to what you would have gotten for your vouchers if you bought a Transmutation Station or something).
    Hallothiel wrote: »

Yes. 'Opening a Folio will give you tradable copies of all of the plans inside and costs the same as it would have cost to buy all the recipes in that Folio individually.'
    Ratzkifal wrote: »

They won't be doing that. Firstly, because I'm not sure ESO is even capable of it, and also because the recipes are tradeable so 'it costs less if you already own it' wouldn't work. The tradability is why other suggestions, like being able to buy a randomized envelope that teaches you a recipe that you don't know yet also won't be implemented - even though both ideas would be great for crafters and collectors for themselves.
iirc they said that the bundles would contain all of the recipes and would cost the same price as if you just bought them all individually. They did make it sound like opening the folio would give you the recipes, and then you could do with them as you please (e.g. sell extras at a guild store)
Yes, that's correct. However, it will be interesting to see how this impacts the supply and price of master writ furnishings. I think it will be negatively. Few people will find it profitable to buy older recipes in bulk, when they will just end up with less-popular furnishing recipes that won't sell as much, and when they could just buy popular current season recipes or other direct purchase items, and keep selling those for more value/voucher.

And fewer crafters will have older furnishing plans available (we can always see that the supply of older furnishing styles from older zones become far more rare to find when everyone's doing the newer content and getting the newer recipes). Perhaps the bundles make sure that recipes will be known more equally (like, getting all of them from a season, not just the most popular ones), even though fewer people will be able to get them (since they will require a large chunk of writs upfront).

Guess we'll see, but like others in this thread, I'm also not too happy about this change.

I can't even begin to understand why this change was even considered, much less implemented. It's not as if scrolling through a long list of items would be unique to these trader NPCs. Couldn't they have added filter categories to these inventories as well? That would have reduced the number of items to just a few in each category, e.g. "general furnishing items, crafting stations, storage, dummies, motifs, materials, furnishing plans, other". They could even make a filter to only show the most recently released items, or simply put those first in the list, for those who think scrolling is cumbersome.

I would say this is a typical case of trying to fix something that isn't broken, and thereby breaking it.

Does it include the training dummies? My EU character doesn't know many motifs yet so probably won't have enough vouchers to pick the plan up soon, but definitely aren't going to need to buy multiple ones in the future.

This really screws over the casual player like me who doesn't collect a ton of writs and buys the plans as they find a use for the furnishing. [snip] A better way would be to leave everything a la carte and create group headers that can be opened or closed to see the plans in that bundle. It isn't like they haven't done this before in the Provisioning menu. [snip]

    TY for posting this!

Not a fan of this new change at all, especially with no way to preview what I'm buying.
And I've only recently gotten my character to the level where I can start crafting the better writs, so I don't have a ton of vouchers saved that I can quickly snap up the plans I'd like.

This is a terrible change :(

Yes. A consequence of this is they will be cheaper. So I plan to not follow OP advice and save my vouchers and buy the ones I’m missing with gold. Then use my vouchers on the NEW really nice plans and sell the furnishings.
