Sure these companions are "optional" but that means less effort is put into what was suppose to be a Massively Multiplayer Online game.
A simple way to fix this is to give these companions banter with other companions when in the same group, kind of like what we see in most Bioware titles like Dragon Age, Kotor, Mass Effect, it's a small detail but it can add so much and at least its an incentive for grouped players who bring their companions along.
Then we also have the new botting problem this might bring about.
Companions are said to be a quest reward.
The initial two that launch with the chapter, sure, but I would be very surprised if they did not add more to the Crown Store and even Crown Crates later.
Hopefully one day they'll buff the delve bosses, those guys are ridiculously easy.

if these companions are going to be jacks of all trades from the get go. will you really need to buy them from the cash shop? when quest rewarded companions function just as well?.
Yes game back at launch was significantly harder. In part it was an lack of gear and player skill.Although My memory is not so sharp or mayhap I cans't recall I bet the region monsters and overall potency of skills were significantly less at launch and first year, I believe ESO got easier by each passing year, maybe even DLC.
Once progress has been made enough these days characters posses near divine power. Oddly individuals still complain and wish more, soon they will become Deadra worshipers.

Vet dungeons were not there at launch, and neither was Craglorn. Lower Craglorn came out in Update 1, when the VR cap was also raised. Vet dungeons came much later. VR “vet” content was not the same as vet content is now. One Tamriel changed how veteran is defined in ESO.

Elder scrolls has been a single player experience primarily and if i'm going to be grinding a story line I would rather not see a (or many) tiny-fat-gnome looking things running around in a bathers towel with a jesters crown on it's head.

I specifically remember being VR4 and watching this video to do this VR dungeons with my friends on launch

Back at launch the 1 dungeons was normal dungeons. 2 was veteran. The ones without numbers was just normal.JoseDelgadoCub17_ESO wrote: »So I'll repeat this VETERAN DUNGEONS EXISTED ON LAUNCH... stop saying it didn't.. it did. I was there, I know.

I was there at launch, too. Just look at the age of my forum account.
However, obviously you completely missed the last bit of what I said, so I’ll go ahead and bold it so you can find it.Vet dungeons were not there at launch, and neither was Craglorn. Why add costumes to the cash shop when your equipped gear works just as well? Why add mounts to the cash shop when the basic horse you can buy for in-game gold works just as well?
Answer: cosmetic options sell well because people like to customize and personalize in this type of game

Similarly, I don't mind the existence of Cyrodiil or battlegrounds even though I choose not to PvP. All I ask is the same courtesy when it comes to optional features that are designed for the large number of us who happily explore and adventure as soloists. I am chagrined by the close-minded lack of tolerance regarding play styles that do not match what some tell us they should be.
I look forward to companions - not for the 'combat edge' but for the roleplaying value of a companion whose schedule 100% mirrors my own and who always stays totally in character.
As far as single player games being a dime a dozen, I welcome recommendations to replace ESO as my game home. Specifically, a single player game that offers all the following: Massive scale (Oblivion and Skyrim are woefully far from massive), open world, ability to create your own character (unlike the Witcher etc) , no need to recruit a 'team' to succeed (unlike Baldur's Gate etc), medieval fantasy environment. Travel by horse. I am constantly on the look for such a game but, for now, ESO is as close as I can get. That it is multiplayer is a drawback I live with because ESO is reasonably friendly to soloists.

This has been one of the best worded ways of explaining how I love elder scrolls.

It was ever since Tamriel Unlimited, I cannot see any other major impossibly solo friendly MMO other than ESO with limitless options ability to go anywhere, anytime and has ultimate RP,story, lore, exploration, features, combat that would satisfy anyone. ,also ability to become extremely OP later with right class, build etc
The size of ESO is blowing my mind by each day
