Scheduled maintenance 2014/04/22 8:00AM For real?

A quick rap up to all the whining and complaining here.... When you purchased and installed the game, you came at some point to a screen entitled "Terms of Service". You, like most people, scrolled through without reading and just checked the "Ok" box. However if you had read said Terms of Service, you would realize that Zenimax retains the right to bring down the servers at any time, without having to give us any prior notice. So before you go sitting all high and mighty on that stool of yours, realize you accepted the terms.

Here's a quarter... go call someone who cares.

Another day I won't get to play. It sucks when your main play time is in the mornings EST. Perhaps this is not the game for me, when the server is going down multiple days a week in the morning.

I've beta'd and played most mmo's since the late 90's, so I'm quite used to the post release maintenance stuff, hot fixes etc
But I personally can't remember the last time a game had quite so much downtime after release, and for so long..
    11th/12th/15th/18th/19th/21st/22nd... it's getting worse.. lol

My Mama always said "Things get worse before they get better." . Oh, wait maybe that wasn't MY Mom. Today's shouldn't be too long though since it is just a Hotfix. Plus Hotfix means that something is going to get fixed, although I can't find exactly what that something is.
    Does anyone know?

Most of the important bugs are being squashed. We are nearing the time where extra maintenance will be necessary. Just hold on, the only thin that is unusual about this launch is that they are patching more frequently than not. Most companies would just say, hey maintenance is on Tuesday that is when you get your bug fixes, if that's to long for you, too elfin bad.

Once a few more critical bugs get handled I'm sure that they will settle into the Tuesday (Patch) and Friday (Maintenance) schedule that they've already laid out. They might already be planning to do that going forward.

    There's no winning.

Talk about short-sighted. There's such a thing as too much and too little, eh? If you order a coke and I half fill it and give it to you you should complain. Likewise if your coke is in front of you and I just keep pouring until it's all over your lap you should complain.

I'm not up to speed with modern day software. If I remember I think my first MMO was Ultima Online back in 1997. In almost 20 years has anyone been able to develop a way to push hotfixes/patches live?

I.e. You can download updates etc. for Microsoft products in the background, some (not all) may then require a reboot/restart.
both Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 push updates to live server, players get a message that a new update is ready for download and to log out within XX time or the game will spit them out to autodownload. Server stays up for Most patches, client updates and brings itself back to par with the server.
People say "We need more communication!". So the CSR tells us the fix just wasnt ready for yesterday. Being honest and communicating with us. What happens people rip into the person. Isnt this what we asked for?

Increased communication is great, certainly beats the first emergency server shutdowns, I know, I was on these forums along with many others trying to coax information out of Zos staff... it eventually came, in drips and drabs, and they started to give rolling updates and even took their first baby steps towards allowing estimates on server downtime... it was 8 hours by the way.. which you'd never have guessed by their "back up shortly, we'll let you know when." commentary.

Which gets to the real point. Honesty. Communication without honesty is meaningless. With-holding information is not honest.

If you want your player base to trust you, you have to trust us.

That means you need a certain amount of candor coupled to that honesty. If you give us the information we need in order to remain informed and able to make informed decisions, we in turn can trust you when you claim to be honest with us. There are times when with-holding serves a purpose, but the player base can only appreciate information being with held if they know that information that isnt a security issue or related unreleased content or operational systems, is usually freely proffered.

Even though it is a business relationship, it is still a relationship and hopefully a long term one at that. If there is mistrust and disillusionment, then the relationship is in for hard times.

Trust the community to self police its more extreme elements as concerns flare ups and flame wars, give us the information we need to stay informed and trust that you as the provider are not merely treating us as cash cows.

    next week is Friday?

as he said ^^ or couldnt of been combined with yesterdays down time?
While we would've liked to have combined the hotfix with today's maintenance, the truth of the matter is it just wasn't ready to go and we wanted to get the new build out for you guys. Tomorrow morning's maintenance likely won't take as long as the maintenance from today, for what that's worth.

I notice that you mention "tomorrow's maintenance"

Does this mean there will be four days maintenance this week?
I'm okay with it if there is... on the condition that I know it is going to happen.

Can you see what I am saying?

Lying is intentionally putting out inaccurate information - knowingly misleading someone. You can point to evidence that they intentionally and knowingly "lied" to us? I assume you have never made mistakes, and of course those mistakes were not lies because you did them. Someone else makes a mistake, something unplanned happens to someone else, and of course they are just lying and trying to make you unhappy. I am pretty sure that making your customer base unhappy is what ZOS has in mind, after all they certainly do not want to succeed and get rich...

Thank you, even though I understood this from the beginning i'm glad you are actively engaged in the forums from what I can tell you normally are. I do how ever have a question as to if I can talk to someone directly because I have been unable to log into the game past my character selection screen for 48 hours now and if so it was brief like 15 mins before we had maintenance and then again after maintenance I have talked to support though email but I haven't heard from them all day today since I gave them my dxdiag.

if you are running esohead/esomarkers in your addon file this will prevent you from logging in to your characters. I even told the cs person what the issue was.

Esomarkers is no longer supported by the author, iirc its now called Harvestmap or some such and Esohead is no longer needed as was infact causing some headaches for the author.

I can't find the post for some reason, but someone asked the question as to why no one had developed the ability in 20 years of MMO gaming to push patches live. The only one i've played where they could push smaller fixes and adjustments live was GW2, but patches always required the downtime.

The technology is certainly there and i've seen it used for a corporate environment, but as the person said themselves, a restart of the 'system' is required for big stuff.

I do wish we could get these maintenances to decrease in frequency though...if there's more fixes coming this week for other bugs, that's three total. Considering we're quickly approaching the month-mark, they should have started tapering by now.

I don't really want to complain about fixes, and there are a lot of hands in the air about various bugs, so keep at it, as long as it doesn't cost you customers due to all the downtime.

The BIG difference is that people usually admit their mistakes, which ZoS hardly does.

What mistakes? Taking the servers down in order to apply patches to fix the bugs?

Seriously, there will always be someone complaining.

Some people don't encounter bugs and complain when servers are taken down, some people encounter so much bugs that they can't progress so they complain about that, some people can only play in the morning so they complain about that, Aussies complain about maintenance days...

You can't please everyone and that's OK. If you're affected and you just come on the forums to vent for no reasons, this game isn't for you. Stop playing it, come back when things have settled down but don't come on the forums, cluttering every thread with your whining when there's no constructive criticism.

I bet most people that come here to complain encounter a bug and don't even report it.

I don't want to sound condescending @ZOS_GinaBruno‌ but the wording of THIS POST right here is PERFECT, and it's one of the rare times I've felt like a ZO employee/affiliate was talking to me instead of a "big company" instead.
What do you gain by criticizing a CSR complaint?

    1. Losing ability to use Skills during fights
    2. Horrible load times into dungeons and other zones
    3. NPCs disappear before the quester ever gets to them

These are my biggest complaints about the game right now. And they're being ignored the most right now.

Take the servers down all you want, give us patches all you want. I'm ok with maintenance, I just wish they would address and acknowledge these issues and fix them! How they do not consider these game breaking is a shock :/
