Allow out of date addons does not work as it should

Hello,

before the patch, you could enable the out of date addons while playing any character. The UI had a "Reload UI" button that would make outdated addons immediately enabled after the reload.

Now it has changed.

If you enable the outdated addons while playing a character, it won't work. It does not enable them even after the Reload UI and the "Allow out of date addons" returns being unchecked.

You have to exit your character and go back to the main login screen to enable it and hope it'll work once you play a character.
I have written "hope", because some of my characters obey to the "Allow out of date addons" when I use the above workaround, some don't.

We checked this on our end and from what we can tell, the option seems to be functioning. Are either of you able to provide a screenshot of exactly where you're running into this issue?

I have also been having this issue, I have to re-select the allow out of date addons in between every character swap whilst on the character select screen.

I also noticed that when I adjusted the volume within the audio settings, the change did not stick when I went to another character.

The screenshot would not be useful, because all you see is the unckecked checkbox that returns unchecked if you reload the UI.

Anyway here is how I reproduce it:

Issue 1: enable old addons from the addons menu, press Reload UI at the bottom right. The addons won't enable and the enable old addons checkbox stays disabled.

Issue 2: enable old addons from login screen and play a character. It works. Log out and the checkbox returns unchecked, especially if you change character.

Hate to be the "everything works fine for me" person.. but yeah, works as normal for me.

Had to tick the checkbox on first character i logged in to allow the outdated addons thingy and do the reloadui, after that it remembered that setting for all other characters like normally.

Did once had same issue though after installing PTS next to regular game, realized my SSD was sorta low on memory after it, good old reboot of PC did fix the problem, i guess did clear out all temporary files and stuff - not that tech savvy so just a guess. I`d check memory situation.. No idea if this helps, hope it will. :)

I'm having same problem, i switch between my characters even tho i select enable add on's for all characters it forgets the setting and each time i log in it has no add on, i have had to come right out of game , log in again an may remember them, then switch to another character it forgets them all again , so go back to original character , forgot them again and seems every third time i hit reload ui/login with new char it may remember then forget next time . This patch has broken the allow out date feature of the add on's.

Counterpoint: I enabled Out of Date Addons on my PC NA first account main, worked perfectly. And it worked perfectly across my main account PC EU, and on both megaservers on my second account as well.

I wonder if all of you are using some other addon(s) that might be causing this issue? Can't be number of addons - I'm using 50+ (but nothing like MM, TTC, or any harvesting-helper or combat addons).

I have not updated any add-ons today. When I selected to have the out of date add-ons work I had no issue other than my FPS cut on half.

    So no issues here.

Edit: I updated my add-ons and still no problem getting the out of date addons to work. I do need to figure out which add-on is causing the drop in my FPS but that is not a Zos issue.

I hope that won't be an issue. 2 days ago when I updated some the shrine map didn't read my controller directional stocks so I couldn't move the map to relocate. Soon as I turned several off, it worked again. I think there is also an issue with one more not letting the right button trigger execute it's function, which was frustrating.

    UPDATE!
    POSSIBLE FIX.
Somehow managed to fix it. What I did was I set to run client as administrator, restarted the pc, and then launched the game again. During the launch my antivirus, avast, asked me if i want to block eso from accessing and changing files which i set to "No". After loading a game I checked the checkbox as always and voila.

Only thing I noticed is that it enabled all addons, even the ones which were previously checked off.

Could someone else from this thread check any antivirus software you may be running and make sure it's not blocking ESO files?

I use steam to run ESO, and went in and set the executable for ESO to run as administrator (not the launcher) and it seems to have resolved the issue for me also.

I've been using AVG and running Windows 10. I've had a somewhat similar issue with a different application.

Are you using Windows 10? If so, you might want to dump Avast. Apart from the problems often associated with it, Windows 10 doesn't like third party AV programs and some techs advise sticking with Defender.

I tried disabling the antivirus and also running as administrator, it still does not save the state of the checkbox.

Edit: I don't know if this is related to the issue, but there's a file in documents\ESO\live called "AddOnSettings.txt". It's dated 08/23/2020 4:52p, like ESO cannot write on it even as admin and antivirus disabled.

    Excerpts of the file:

Yeah still doing it, when switch characters or even zoning to a different place it disabled my addons had to re enable them, defiantly glitchy some where in the new update.

I dont think its my virus thing its more when changing characters/zones im experiencing it.

@Vahrokh - did you try changing the file permits on AddOnSettings.txt to disable read-only? If it's set read only, updates are not going to stick - so if you don't disable read only then resave the file, nothing you do is going to take effect. Now, mine is not (and never has been AFAIK) set read-only, but each system is different, and each OS version ditto - and I am NOT running the "latest greatest" version of win 10 (for many reasons, none of which are at all germane to this issue, though my security updates are current).

Since addons settings are not saving, and 2nd case is:

"I also noticed that when I adjusted the volume within the audio settings, the change did not stick when I went to another character."

There is a problem with a game client writing to config file where the settings are stored.

Since some people said they already run the game as the Administrator and disabled AV (which can be tricky on how it is done since AV software is protected of closing the main process since malware will try to do the same) this should be marked as Critical error and needs to be tested from ZOS side.

If the game cannot write to config file, it is pretty much a critical issue.

Same problem as OP. I have fiddled with the AddOnSettings.txt file, and manually changed #loadoutofdateaddons to 0, launched the game and set it to 1 inside the game. No change to the file. Reset it to 1 manually in the .txt file, and still getting the same results above. I can force it to work by enabling Allow out of date add-ons manually on the character selection screen before logging in, but that must be done every time, including when switching between characters.
