@Vahrokh - did you try changing the file permits on AddOnSettings.txt to disable read-only? If it's set read only, updates are not going to stick - so if you don't disable read only then resave the file, nothing you do is going to take effect. Now, mine is not (and never has been AFAIK) set read-only, but each system is different, and each OS version ditto - and I am NOT running the "latest greatest" version of win 10 (for many reasons, none of which are at all germane to this issue, though my security updates are current).

    Look:
    1. ESO worked perfectly on my computer, from 2014 to yesterday's patch day. So, it's not some "guy just installed the game and toyed with privileges" or anything. I let the patcher do its job as I have done for 6 years.
    2. The day(s) before this patch, ESO worked perfectly with the same 64 bits Windows 10 Pro I am using today. No update has been made to the OS.
    3. Antivirus etc. did not change nor got updated from 2 days ago to yesterday after patch. Game always worked, no tweaking needed.
    4. I did not install or update a single application in the last days.
    5. Basically, the only variable that changed on my computer in the past 2 days has been ESO. Before the patcher updated it, it worked, now it doesn't. That's it.

Just curious, as mine work fine, and all I did was turn on the 'ourdated' addons again.

Have you double checked your add-ons to see if new library files have been required? This has happened several times the past few months with mine. Is it All of your old addons that don't work or just a few?

    UPDATE!
    POSSIBLE FIX.
Somehow managed to fix it. What I did was I set to run client as administrator, restarted the pc, and then launched the game again. During the launch my antivirus, avast, asked me if i want to block eso from accessing and changing files which i set to "No". After loading a game I checked the checkbox as always and voila.

Only thing I noticed is that it enabled all addons, even the ones which were previously checked off.

Are you using Windows 10? If so, you might want to dump Avast. Apart from the problems often associated with it, Windows 10 doesn't like third party AV programs and some techs advise sticking with Defender.

Defender is an ok AV but far from one of the best. It is like using a second rate deadbolt on the front door. I have had no problems with either Bitdefender (probably one of the best for gaming) or even Norton.

There are "techs" all over that say a lot of things from being ill-informed. No experienced professional tech worthy their salt would suggest MS defender is a great AV solution over the top names in the game. There is a reason why major corporations that actually want solid proteciton do not bother with Defender.

No new library was required. If I go back to login screen and activate the addons, they all work perfectly once I am in-game.

I doubt this is of any use but the only account I have this problem on is the one that has the Crown Crates Khajiit bloke turning up willy-nilly. Maybe the fix for that (whatever it is) will also fix the add-on bug?

Problem is, this is the typical "not on my dev computer" bug.

As a software developer I have this all the time: 999999999999999 customers experience a bug and of course on my development computer it does not happen!

In general, in my case, I think it was mostly to do with file read/writing permissions as it eso wasnt even saving screenshots in a screenshot folder till I applied the fix and it started after. Generally going down that route might be helpful i think

Counterpoint: I enabled Out of Date Addons on my PC NA first account main, worked perfectly. And it worked perfectly across my main account PC EU, and on both megaservers on my second account as well.

I wonder if all of you are using some other addon(s) that might be causing this issue? Can't be number of addons - I'm using 50+ (but nothing like MM, TTC, or any harvesting-helper or combat addons).
Same for me, that did not work was download while at work, came home and launcher asked me to repair the game so I closed it and on restart it started downloading.

I quit the game and reopened 3 times. On the third try, the addons appeared.

I am having the issue outlined in this thread (using outdated addons tick only sticking directly after individual character loadscreen, losing tick completely with /reloadui). Only began with this patch. OneDrive is syncing my docs folder.

I don't have any of that.

I fiddled with starting as Administrator, antivirus, folder access privileges until the game now seems to work. Something with the patching process went wrong. Some(?) files were made not writeable by non admininstrative users. No file was marked as "read only".

I don't feel it's good to assume end users will be able to fix all of this stuff by themselves. I am a software developer and system administrator so I can overcome a lot of stuff that will leave regular users completely stuck.

I had the same issue as the original poster. The option would not stick.

I managed to fix it by doing the following:

    went to %userprofile%\Documents\

Right click on the folder "Elder Scrolls Online" select "Properties"

Go to security tab. The list of useres should list the "Home Users" group.

Click on the Edit button. Select the "Home Users" group and give "Full Control"

Click on OK and OK again to close the window. Options saved after that. Hope this helps.

People who don't have an AV have well bigger problems than running a MMO. How many are left not running an AV, 5%?

So the problem involves the remaining 95%.

And, anyway, this is not true. I stopped my AV and the issue still persisted.

My load outdate addons functions works fine, but just in case your issue has not been solved, you can try this:

First make sure the game isnt running. Then back up your entire ...\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\ folder

Then delete it and install all your addons anew. Now try and start game and see if it is fixed.

If this does not fix it, it's possible it has to do with missing permissions for the folder? In that case you could try to fiddle with it giving full permission to your current user. I should warn that you should take a screenshot of all the settings in the permissions window just in case you need to go back to how it were.

Well for some reason tonight, all my add ons remained enabled across all my characters, and changing characters and log in another the add ons where still enabled. I have done nothing my end, and some how my add ons are working okay again.

So possibly something changed at ZoS end, and got it working again. Will of course check each day now before logging character in just to see if it was a glitch , or to see if it remains okay.

I don't use Cloud. I turn it off immediately if I have to do a Windows re-install.

But I have not had the problems with my addons that others have had here.

It is NOT a permissions issue, I've always runned ESO with Administrator account, and since last patch I started having this issue.

The only way to make ithe out of date addons work, is to enable the checkbox before selecting the character.
Which can be frustrating because sometimes I forget it, and get a double dose of loading screens.

My thoughts exactly. Most people wouldn't even know HOW to shut off the built in AV in windows anyways. Leave the damn thing ON!!!

This is also happening to me. The workaround I have found is that at the toon screen for each toon I have to put the checkmark in on the addon list there. If I reload UI it then takes the checkmark away and I have to go back to the toon select screen so I just go there instead of reloading the UI. I hope this gets fixed quickly cause it is a real pain to have to remember to do it every time I change toons. seems like since there is a workaround though it will most likely be a delay on this being fixed when there is so much more going wrong with this patch.
I have to say though that I have not ported anywhere to see if it goes away after porting like others are saying happens to them.
**update** I ported around and it did not remove the checkmark for me

Had this happening as well. All addons disabled as is normal after an update. Checked to turn them all back on and they just wouldn't. Managed to get them working again.

I am using Win10 and Avast.

    FIX (for me)
    Added eso64.exe to Avast exception.
  • JR_Returns

I tried adding eso64.exe to the Avast exceptions but that didn't work.

I was playing on the EU server. I logged off from the game completely, shutting down the launcher.
When I restarted the game it restarted on the NA server. I switched back to the EU and same problem.

I selected use out of date addons and reloaded the UI.
The game reloaded for an instant then immediately dropped back to the load screen.
When the game loaded the next time everything was working correctly.

I've now played for an hour and other than the above problem everything is working well. I've played since beta and this is the first time I remember a major update going this smoothly, so well done ZOS.
