ESO's engine was designed in part around large scale combat (though its kind of floundering in that area these days) and a lot of mechanics were designed for pvp that we see nowhere else (keep battles)

the threat of greymoor keep would have been very cool if it had included cyro style mechanics

imagine if the section with the keep had a more classic pvp keep to it, as well as outposts, and maybe outer structures like nik / sej /bleak

when you enter that section of black reach, its just grey host baddies everywhere, and you can temporarily capture structures just like in cyro (rams, siege, etc.)

add in dallies, achievements, a few unique interactions, etc.



I really with that those cyro siege and large scale battle mechanics were used more through out sections of the game because they are fun, AND, its would introduce people to basic siege mechanics before they go out into pvp.

imagine a noob stepping into cyro, seeing the keeps and siege and stuff and being like "oh, I know what to do!"

    They tried open world PvP a long time ago with the crime system

    After that experiment they decided against it.

    They talked about it but it was never implemented and they decided that it was too easily exploitable so they cancelled plans for that part of the justice system

    Yea, hows the pvp map running for you? Also how would you stop idiots from griefing or camping towns, I mean look at bdo, it wow pvp servers. Its an issue you see daily.

    Are you describing using pvp mechanics in a pve setting? So not actually fight other players, but rather take over (or defend) keeps and use seige weapons against pve opponents.

    They did that a bit with a ballista in a northern elsweyr quest and I remember how IC’s main quest line ended using a siege weapon, very fun.

    Not sure how it would work without a phased or solo instance, but it could be fun.

    what I am talking about

    because black reach is already separated into 4 instances (N,E,S,W) it would be easy enough to make a PvE version of cyro mechanics in the northern keep zone, with areas to capture (that will inevitably reset) using a copy paste of cyrodil siege mechanics but just fill enemy outposts and keep with PvE baddies.

    it boggled my mind how they designed the engine around large scale battles and the NEVER used it in PvE at all when it would be so much fun.

    even doing wave defense in a keep with an enemy troop number and full access to siege would be great, where the enemy is trying to use a ram through the keeps and you have to kill them. use siege, go out and just kill them, whatever.

    When people answer the title but don't really read the post is amazing. For me overland is so boring it is unsalvageable without a major revamp.

    They should have at least let us use ballistae against Dragons in Elsweyr but that didn't happen either. Even though everywhere else in the story ballistae are used and there are even ballistae at some dragon sites.

    1. Change the title, if you think that PvE needs a major revamp then say it because otherwise people aren’t going to bother to read another “Open PvP” thread.

    2. Does PvE need a revamp? Yes.
    It’s not a coincidence that many people including myself have made threads discussing this topic.
    Current overland/story difficulty doesn’t expose players to challenge or explore more of ESO’s mechanics and if they want to them they have to go out of their way to check out PvP & Endgame.
    ZOS has made a comfort zone that coddles players.

    4. One Tamriel needs some balancing because right now enemy mobs are pathetic even with fresh characters using misc green gear & no CP.

    ZOS knows about the power creep, which is why they’ve capped CP for now and are reviewing the system.
    They’ve discussed even the possibility of difficulty settings for overland content.

    Hello! We have no plans on implementing spears, but we have talked off and on about cool ways to do the one hand magic/one hand weapon thing. That's not on our roadmap anywhere, but we have been brainstorming.

    There are so many cool things we could do! Seriously, we love these ideas too, but it all comes down to a matter of time and priorities.

    EDIT: to respond to your edit. Yes, we've talked about this, in fact we tried to get that into the game as part of One Tamriel, but we just couldn't get it done. So we have ideas on how to have difficulty settings for overland content, but it's not currently planned. It's a great idea.

    Personally I would like to see ZOS change it up sometimes and put in an activity like a horde mode instead of another arena
