Do you feel that there should be more (practical or otherwise) reasons to visit your house?

Greetings,

having everyone hanging 24/7 in their homes would suck the life of every city, therefore I can't see them putting ways to collect/finish writs in the house. But what about smaller things, or more flavorful if you will? Example: some type of rested XP (extra bonus perhaps if you "sleep" with the player you're married to) put those beds to good use! Some kind of other buff from a decorative item, be it food, instrument, sitting near the hearth etc. (stacks with food/drink), have your own blood slave as a vampire, coffins decreasing vampire stage, a way to use wayshrines directly from within the house, gardening, last but not least, unique quests given by NPC's you've recruited or something like that.

These are just some silly ideas from the top of my head. So, if you like the idea, please, do share yours!

    It would be nice.

I've spent real money and hundreds of thousands of gold to pimp out my house and I think I've had maybe 7-8 visitors since housing launched. I want people to see it but don't want to be that guy that asks my guildmates to come check it out for no reason.

I've thought about looking for a housing guild just because of this. They do neat decoration contests and stuff like that.

EDIT: I read too fast and misunderstood: I thought the question pertained to house usefulness overall, and not specifically reasons to visit your own house. My bad.

I didn't vote b/c I really don't like the ideas given to go along with the yes option, but I wouldn't mind seeing some more small things added.

I would not want to see buffs or things like that where players feel like they are missing something if they hate housing or they feel like they have to port to someones home and do some tedious task constantly for a buff before doing something else. But more things anyone can use even if they visit a friends home like target dummies.

I already get a decent amount of visitors between some that just like housing, players that come to use target dummies or crafting, want a good port to a good city, use banker, merchant, transmute stations, etc. More reasons like those would be alright if there were any out there.

"Yes" doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with my suggestions. And to be honest, I can't see how it would be tedious if you visited your house every 3 hours or so for a small buff, but to each their own. To me, houses right now are in a weird spot, I feel like there's not much going on there, I mean, yes, you decorate it, it looks nice and all, but for the most part you just forget about it and go on about your business. More incentives to visit would be nice, other than to RP or use a wayshrine nearby.
EDIT: I read too fast and misunderstood: I thought the question pertained to house usefulness overall, and not specifically reasons to visit your own house. My bad.
Maybe I didn't word it correctly, but I meant both.

Visiting a house means extra loading screens. I do have a couple of ingame homes for convenience - Snugpod for Master Writs, Sleek Creek for proximity to a Thieves den - but I would rather not feel like I should visit them more often than the strictly necessary.

I only visit my home when I need to place some new furnishing that will look good in it. The last time was when we could buy the windmill and greenhouse. I literally have no reason to visit it otherwise.

Gambling or games of chance on might be fun. Play a round of cards with your buddy, or host a guild casino night.

I like the idea of gardening, too.

Maybe a way to raise or train our own pets/mounts.

YES! For starters, they need to resolve the housing limit, so that we can actually put utilitarian items, or other cool things, in our home. I myself am maxed out already on furnishings, but STILL want to add more.

Some suggestions I have made in the past:
    • gardening skill line: allows you plant harvest able nodes
    • agriculture furnishing type and limit: Each individual material would have its associated node furnishing, that refreshes ever so often (like twice a day, so it can't be abused).
    • NPC actors: can be programmed to say one of many pre-selected options (to avoid abuse) when interacted with. Stationary only (since programming them to appropriately interact with furnishings might be too difficult/finicky) but have various poses, and can sit in chairs, etc.
    • Doors and keys: there are already dungeons that have doors that dont trigger a new instance, and I would love to put "lockable" doors in some of my archways (im sure some more coding would be needed, but thats what the dlc price would help fund!). Keys could be items you craft and "attune" to doors like crafting stations and crafting sets, and then you can give keys to players!
    • I would love to see some houses have "renovation" or "upgrade" options. Different "wallpaper" and "flooring" options. Maybe even the option to purchase add ons (new rooms, floors, etc.). One example being Alinor Crest getting a new door (for X gold/crowns) on the terrace that leads to a master suite. Most of the existing homes already have areas where more could be added.

Love the suggestion of passive bonuses earned from the home. I already habitually return to my player home before logging out (unless I am in the middle of a quest or something). Thats something the single player titles have always had (i.e restful sleep bonus, spouse bonus, etc.).

I would love an ESO+ housing upgrade, or a stand alone Housing DLC. This way, players who don't really care for housing wont feel forced.

Even if its not utilitarian, just being able to show off the fish you collected, for example, would be cool (like animal crossing).

Or add a new item dropped by monsters (heads, trophies, pelts) that can be displayed. That would be a large number of new items though...

There are already game tables (look like Chinese checkers) in-game, I was disappointed when I found out you couldn't interact with them.

Maybe thieves hide-outs can get gambling tables, and they could introduce a card game of sorts. I always like playing pazaak in KOTOR.

PvP mini-games I think would be an awesome next step.

I know it sounds weird, but i really want a fishing pond that only gives white rarity fish, just to relax, because you can not fish everywhere outside and running from fishing spot to fishing spot is (for me) not really relaxing... if you could fish everywhere in the open world, even if it is just white fish outside of the spots i would be happy.Gardening in the house sounds good too, maybe sometimes the seed could grow into a special furnishing instead of material (and for growing seeds you could use different pots, ever played Runes of Magic? I loved the gardening system there).

Housing as it is feels pretty pointless. I visit my own house once every few weeks. Whenever i have ti clean out my inventory but need to return to where i was i use a freinds house and relog to port me back.

There are several issues with houses in general:
    - alof of designs either feature gigantic rooms or extremely small houses in gardens
    - there is no way to port out of your house back to the position you came from
    - there is no free port to wayshrines so houses always mean walking if you dont want to use gold
    - no capability to do writs
    - no capability to use your guild trader

The only reason to sue a house:
    - you like furniture
    - you ened a test dummy

All my crafters are parked in Vivec because of the limitation.
If i have to do some stuff i rather port to vivec than to my house because its way more convenient.

All these years this is one of the things that I always questioned. They have so much stuff for us to buy for houses, be it free or otherwise, there seems be quite a big focus on housing, and let's not forget notable houses, which look beautiful but feel barren, hollow, maybe only serving for guild hubs. Adding more functionality to the housing system after all these years would only make sense. The fact that they haven't done it yet, makes me think that it may go against their design philosophy. Sucks if true.

Cool new item special effects? Great!

Functionality? Ummm... I don’t want players cloistered in their homes. It was awful in WoW (garrisons), I don’t want that copied here.

They can find a nice balance, the mistake of WoW was that you could do pretty much everything there and everyone instantly became a hermit. There's tons of potential for the houses in ESO and this would never happen if handled correctly. I honestly see no reason why they shouldn't add some kind of extra functionality with a bit of flavor depending on your playstyle to houses (see vampire). As it stands, they're 99% useless.

I assume OP did not spend much time on the PTS this last cycle. We tested a new item that will likely come to the crown store soon enough. It is actually two items. A DPS dummy specifically for vampire feeding and a fountain. The two are for raising and lowering our vampire stages.

As for rested XP, I really do not see the point as leveling a character is extremely fast and we get so much XP boost between events and daily login rewards.

Also, homes already serve as a location for doing DPS tests, practice rotations, and such. It is also a great central location for upgrading a deconstructing gear as well as crafting food/potions, enchants for writs, and actual use since we can travel there easily. I tend to do my alchemy, provisioning, and enchanting master writs in bulk in one of my homes.

So the answer is a resounding yes and Zos has already provided some good use for homes and more is on the way.

PS. I do agree with Zos about not setting up where we can do regular writs and turn them in from our homes and other aspects so we do have a reason to enter the cities.

Yes and also more incentive for friends to come visit.

    Some random ideas:

    - Can eat food from your kitchen for a long lasting, minor stat buff in addition to your regular food buff?
    - Can harvest resources that respawn everyday. Trees can be chopped for wood, water for.. water.. etc
    - Maybe reading books from your library can give leads with the new antiquity system?
    - Some of the 'game' furniture pieces can actually be interacted with and played with friends.
    - Logging off while near a bed increases enlightened meter?
