A cleverly designed reward boost that encourages players to

    1. Acquire the Dragonhold DLC - either buying it or subbing to ESO+

    2. Play through a significant amount of content to gain access to the chest

    3. Return daily to the DLC zone

So this will encourage about an extra month’s worth of visits...

There's a long list of motifs the grind is annoying for; i'm glad this isn't one of em. Doing the same boring daily quests over and over again for a pretty motif is mind-numbing, so you're welcome to do that if this motif doesnt sell highly enough for you.

It is guaranteed. The chest is on a daily reset, it resets with the daily writs every 24 hours. The motif inside the chest is on a rolling 20 hour timer, so it resets 20 hours AFTER the last time you looted it. Not sure why they did it that way, but they did. So make sure you wait at least 20 hours between looting the chest as if you loot it before the motif timer is up, you will not get one and can't loot again til the daily reset.

Go into your collections menu and outfit styles. You can preview the motif even if you don't have it. It will be under the greyed out silhouettes at the end of each category

Yea, because people really love RNG, amirite?

Thieves Guild motif was also guaranteed upon completion of a heist. This one is locked behind a 30-quest achievement and is a reward for actually doing content. There are enough low-drop-chance motifs in Southern Elsweyr. It's insane that you want more.

One day I did not receive a page, but instead received 5 style materials for the New Moon Priest.

Is there other hidden requirements also? As did quest for him everyday since motif started to drop and got zero drops of new moon style.

Nope nothing I’m aware of @Cinbri

As long as you can open the chest you get an opportunity each day. It’s not guaranteed though.

@Vaoh It is guaranteed. You probably ran into the second (hidden) requirement: There is a limit of one motif per account per 20-hour period. You not only need to wait for the chest to reset at a fixed time each day, but you also need to make sure at least 20 hours have passed since the last time any character on your account received one.

It is neither a guaranteed drop nor is it a 20 hour time limit. I have not gotten it every time and I have gotten it 10 minutes before the daily time change for the box and went back afterward and gotten the motif both times. The only criteria I can see for the motif is that you can only get one chance per day on your account for it. It's the same timer as the chest.

Oh :/ I only have the chest unlocked for one character but I must’ve made that mistake.

What a weird requirement. Ty for letting me know. Also @Cinbri it turns out this was why we did not receive our pages.

Let me rephrase. The first time the chest is opened by any character in an account in a 20-hour period, you have a guaranteed drop. Any other openings of the chest only has a small chance of a drop.

Frankly, I'm grateful that getting these motifs isn't a ridiculous inconvenience and that we're being rewarded for having done enough dalies to get the achievement that opens the box. There's no need to cash in on every single motif in the game, when there is already enough that are high value.

    I know right :)

Ever wonder why chests and certain other motif pages are high priced?

A large number of traders decide to monopolize as much as possible a specific page, usually the chest page, and buy up any lower priced ones and stick them in a bank until they have sold one.

This creates an artificial sense of scarcity that you should not let yourself get fooled by. The game is capable of dropping an infinite number of these motifs.

Thankfully, Style pages can not be stack so this happens less with them.

I for one am glad this is not going to be a motif that players attempt to monopolize. I have been sharing out the dragonguard dailies to as many players as wants them so they can complete the 3 day achievement.

I also advise that instead of spending 5000 crowns on a cosmetic that players purchase the 1500 crown dlc. It is always better when customers are buying content rather than fluffy cosmetics.

You are wrong, pages are not guaranteed at all, for second its only available once per day per account even if you managed to get more than one character with 30 daily quest achievement, you will not get additional rewards from your efforts and for last there is an bug with chest when you open chest and have full inventory and then close chest and relog or change zone chest will void for next day even if you didn't take anything from container.

If ZOS make it no-guarantee, people will say: Meh, they just want to sell it in crown store.
If ZOS make it guarantee people say: Meh, we won't make ingame profit from selling.

It doesn't matter what ZOS does, someone will always mimimi. So it is good that they switch between both varieties^^

    Except the pages are tradeable.
So all you need are some of the population to have Dragonhold. The rest can just pick it up from guild stores without even having Dragonhold.
We're in early days of the new motif pages, but the OP is foreseeing that the quantity will start to glut the market because of the guaranteed drop.
So without reducing the drop rate, ZOS is undermining their intent to make people revisit the zone a lot, unless people were still going there daily to get their loot whether there was the new motif page or not.

Shame on you, OP, for asking for this.

Shame on ZOS for doing it.

Shame on me for trusting ZOS enough for the "guaranteed drop" to restore my faith that they weren't completely reliant on an inherently bad concept.

(Edit: Not that I think they did this because of OP. As soon as they realized they had missed one single opportunity to slip some of their awful RNG into rewards, they had to "fix" it.)

So, you go and buy the Dragonhold DLC. Or you pay ESO+.

Dragonhold brings a new way to collect the pages for a motif: Do part of the story arc and 30 dailies of a specific ingame faction (Dragonguard), and you will get one guaranteed drop of a page every day. (With a 20 hour cooldown, so you might miss a day now and then, depending on when you can login).
It will be a random page, but you can trade it with, or sell it to and buy it from other players.

    1. Yay - there is a motif you don't have to grind the same content for over and over again !!
There are 6 different dailies from Truptor, and one dragonhunt daily from Chizbari. So instead of grinding the same (about) 6 dailies for god-knows-how-long, you can do every one just 4 times, then two once more, and then it'll only take you a port to the location and the opening of a chest, and you'll have your motif eventually. (Faster if you trade pages in game, or sell and buy.)
    2. Yay - it won't really take long to complete the motif ! You can have a page every day. Lots of other people, too. It's a matter of not even minutes to get it, so there are a lot of people there at (almost) any given time willing to trade pages in zone chat.
    3. Yay - you can earn quite some money with it for a few weeks/months ! Just by selling it for fair prices to all the people who don't have access to the DLC, or don't want to do the quests, or are impatient.
    4. Yay - there is a motif that you'll soon be able to buy for very affordable prices even if you don't have the DLC in which it drops (or ESO+ to get there) - you can still complete it without spending tens of thousands !
    5. Once the price is down you can either gift it to newbies, sell it for smaller money to all the new players that enter the game at any given time and don't have ESO+ or the DLC, or you type DESTROY once a day. (I'll assume you'll still want to open the chest every day to hunt for furniture plans, dragon ingredients and stuff...)

    "Downsides":
    - no grind (oh, look, not a downside)
    - no infinite way to make big money out of it (by grinding it) - Yes, well, a downside for some, but those have a dozens of other motifs that work that way, and can use those.
    - If you bought it for crowns - despite it was announced that it would be available in game - you either did so because you wanted it NOW, and were ready to pay for NOW (and got it THEN), or you might be unhappy about having wasted your money because you didn't do research. The last case surely is regrettable, but it is no reason to condemn a very nice way of giving out a motif.

So, no, I see absolutely no (valid) reason why this should NOT be guaranteed.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to answer OP's question: Why do it ? To give people a reason to buy and play Dragonhold. To put a motif out there that keeps people interested in the whole motif business, because you need at least a few things that are easy to get to keep them at it. And (although I confess that that's probably quite low on the agenda): To make people happy. Well, most of them.

New Moon Priest is currently the ONLY motif in the game that is 100% guaranteed by just opening a chest. It's a simple 5 seconds daily task.

It has been realeased only a week ago, and chests are already being sold for 50k. Chests! In another week they will be 25k, then 10k, then 5k, then 1k, then 500 gold, because the market will have 1.000.000 pages or more.

And at some point, shortly, we will just have to destroy the pages as we loot them from the chest because there will be already way too many pages in traders and no space (no need in fact) in our inventories for them.

This happened already with Glass motif, until the fragments stopped being guaranteed because there were way too many pages already.

So, why doing this again? Why giving it guaranteed? What's the goal? Overfill the server with millions of useless 500 gold pages?

Why listing for 5k crowns in the Crown Store a motif that will be given for free in zone chat shortly?

Of course, you could just stop traveling to a non-current zone to open the chest once you have what you want. I'd say the purpose is to offer a fresh motif to folks who do 30 dailies for the Dragonguard. It's almost like you think the only purpose of items is to make someone money.
