This may be why the cake test is giving some indication of whether any given character has their flag on. If you eat your cake and get your buff, you are "on". If you don't get your buff, you are "off" and that's why many players who aren't touching the cake are fine. There may be other factors at play as well.

I also got the impression that quests I thought I'd turned in (crafting writs in all cases) didn't actually go through (only some, and the others also didn't have boxes).
So I suspect that the bug is related to the system not keeping up with the volume of some kind of transaction.

Is there any chance we can get an extension on the event to make up for lost boxes?

This. It was fixed within 3 hours. Worth submitting a ticket, but very unlikely we would get an extension.

Don't want an extension I want the 7 boxes!
