Why not just make it a magic version of lockpicking? Lockpicking looks like you're interacting with a REAL device, and not a representation of one. It takes some focus but isn't arduous. It has sensory mechanics based on sensitivity and visual/audio cues rather than easy puzzle-solving. And it feels very thievy.

Easier said than done, I'm sure

I did WoW archaeology only enough to unlock the Steaming Manhole Cover mount and never again. Without trying all I can say this does not look any more inviting.

    Yea..

I don't know if I'll like it more or less than the WoW Archeology 'minigame' system. For those who never played with it, WoW Archeology lets you stay 'in world' (unlike this minigame) and you put down a little device that gives you a red/green/yellow light that lets you know the direction and a rough 'distance' estimator (by the color) of where the treasure is for you to dig up. You go that 'distance', in that direction, and either put down another device to get closer to the item - or the device glows to let you know you found it. Dig it up and wala - Stuff received. Now It IS a minigame - just a minigame of a different sort, that also doesn't have you leave the game field to do.

I was actually hoping it was a better version of wow archology system where you would set up a actual mini camp to excivate in world.

Who knows, all things said, the design shown off it's prototype and not final. If the rewards are crown crate cards then I would surely like to have them for stuff, It's a minigame at the end, similar to many other MMO's minigames, and like lockpicking already I guess. I would like them to have something more interesting that what we were shown off tho .

Well, this ayleiden board looks okay. The digging part is... Not so imersive. Liked mentioned before, a crap cash grab mobile game style. Why not make it like the crafting stations if it had to be simpel, so atleast yourself seeing ur char working. The other players see u at a simple camp or just using the digging emote.

Yep. I literally thought I was looking at some sort of comparison video clip or something when I first saw it on Nefas’ vid. I really hope the gfx and interface design is one of those works in progress, because the mini game looks absolutely horrendous.

God yall so doom and gloom for something you previewed a 2:20 video on.

I'll wait till PTS so I can actually judge it for myself rather than sitting here complaining about something that my knowledge is so absolutely limited on that I couldn't even begin to form more than a surface opinion.

The mini game looks like something similar to Eve Online. It should be reworked. Why not just dig deeper for items? Keep it simple. Otherwise, it should be worth the time to do it. Usable items (lost monster set), large cash stash (100k in gold),etc

Huh. I guess I've been playing "cheap mini-games" in my RPGs for so long, that I don't see what the problem is.

And this is long before "cheap mini-game" meant "mobile", so that's not a factor.

Well I kinda of like it because well its a minigame within a game and because it might not be as much of a boggle on performance had they done it in another way. Who knows maybe it will lead to a game that is a lot like Elder Scrolls Legends being interfaced within the game itself one day. So those crown crate cards could be useful for something.
An Elder Scrolls game within an Elder Scrolls game. That would be neat actually. If they ever did that .

I really enjoyed the bit of Legends that I played, just not enough to go play another game. Would play in a hearbeat though if I could plonk down a card table in my house and invite people to play and collect my decks in-game via quests and looting. Yes I know I essentially just said I want to play gwent and the witcher 3, but it would still be awesome to combine these two elderscrolls games into one and maybe help keep the card game devs employed to boot!

Back to on topic, I'm not sure how I feel about the way the antiquities system looks. I don't mind it being a cutaway mini game screen, but it does lack a certain something. Will have to wait and see it in action on PTS before I get upset. Either way I don't imagine this system will see an drastic overhauls this close to launch.

There are usable items... motifs... mounts... mythic items...

This is pretty much how I envisioned that it would be after the reveal.

Admittedly, it is the weakest part of the whole system. Having to open, not one, but two, mini-games, outside of the main game, is definitely a draw-back to the system.

What is really striking is that, after watching the video, it does not look fun. Seriously, it looks pretty boring and not something that I would be interested in doing more than a couple of times. I will not take me long to get to the point of just wondering why they can't just give me the antiquity and save me the trouble.

It will be interesting to see how it plays on PTS, but by then, it will be too late to make changes. It probably is, already.

I was very much looking forward to a new system and mini games, but this looks very off putting. I very much hope it gets reworked by the time it releases. There are just too many negatives for me to justify purchasing the expansion if this goes through as is as well as the other major issues with the changes to combat, and the issues with vampirism.

The main problem of this system is the lack of longevity, isn't it?
Soon you have uncovered all the style pages, all the recipes and all the mythicals. Alternatively you buy them for 100 gold at the player vendor. And then? I have invested over 20 skillpoints into this system WITHOUT any passive akin of Dark Rider and Clemency to be any use in my day to day life.

What is the purpose of this system once you have gotten these few unique items? There surely has to be some way to gain something from it long term. Otherwise this massive skillpoint investment is not justifiable.

They will probably add new stuff in homeopathic doses that'll give players some sense of achievement. See: Battlegrounds, where they introduced more motif pages after a year.

The system also likely rewards the style stones, duplicate motifs, and furniture. These will be freely traded amongst players for market value. Not everyone will want to do the system, not everyone will want to purchase Greymoor. So that adds longevity to the system the same way any other system in the game works.

Being that Zos loves to hit the housing community with bad decisions like locking furniture motifs behind dungeon bosses, my guess is they will lock a lot of purple and gold recipes behind this

Im actually a fan of mini games within games, but this is not what I was expecting from antiquities. I was hoping antiquities would be like a non combat dungeon, with interactions to make you feel like a tomb raider lol. Don't knock it till you try it I suppose... but this just doesn't look like my usual cup of tea.

Proper mini games would be card games, the table top games already displayed across tamriel, a music playing mini game, etc. but not this.

Even so, I would hope the other mini games I mentioned would still be more immersive, maybe zooming in on the two players sitting at the table and when its your turn a small interface will pop up, but your toons still use basic animations.

It's wise to withhold judgement at this early stage, but a few concerns I have:
    • How well will this interface work on consoles? It appears that the timers are based on moves rather than a countdown, which is a smart move for console compatibility, but selecting areas to take actions with looks like it may be a bit difficult, especially for the higher rarity scrying game.
    • Given the excessive push towards predatory monetization we've seen over the last couple years, I am very concerned that antiquities will serve as a cover for more bad microtransactions. I'm hoping $enimax won't do that considering chapters are *paid* content, but frankly, they've lost any faith I once had in them to practice ethical monetization.
    • Accessibility concerns are important. Whatever the final design is of the minigame, remember not to alienate customers with various types of color blindness or other impairments. This doesn't impact me, personally, but it impacts a great many others.
    • The interfaces and mechanisms for the new minigames should feel like they belong in the Elder Scrolls universe rather than feeling out of place. There's room for improvement on this front, especially for the scrying minigame. The excavation one looks to be in a better spot by comparison.

This looks like ZOS adopting Candy Crush style in the hopes of promoting more micro transactions.

Graphically it looks like a terrible mobile phone game. Not inclusive and adding more features to a broken game is highly unwise.

I would of rather they said they were making positive impacts. This will simply be another negative.

I have been pondering how they will "pay for" this system. Given that it looks boring, my guess is that we will have plenty of Crown Bypass tokens that we can buy and apply to this to make the boredom hurt less. That and the inevitable skill line bypass so that only one character has to do it and then everyone else can just buy the bypass.

Couldn’t y’all just reskin a Myst or Riven puzzle and call it a day?

    Not really joking.

You had a dungeon with an audio puzzle in Vvardenfell and that was super clever. The simple puzzles in CWC were better because they were in the game itself. I don’t know how to express it but minesweeper was the last thing I was expecting.
