Feedback: Antiquities Interface looks like a cheap mobile game.

Maybe it will be difficult for some antiquities thus providing vet content for mat farmers and fishermen

I found them to look okay. The treasure uncovering reminds me of Pokemon Diamond back then. They might have to make it all a bit more immersive. But the general idea is okay for me. Scrying would probably get annoying for me very quickly though. Looking at this same depressing screen over and over.

While digging, at least I am in the open and see some nature.
As hard it is to tell them general feedback, I have never known them to ignore feedback regarding cosmetics and animations. They have usually followed our feedback and improved on it. So I am not nervous whatsoever.

I'd be more concerned about playing it for ten minutes and then getting kicked to desktop or blue screen right before you finish. I mean, these are ZOS servers we are talking about. Their reputation precedes them.

That looks like it will get tedious after the first try.

Might be 'cool' if I was 8 years old.

I'm an adult playing an adult game. Give me adult stuff to do. Sheesh.

Actually, never mind, I just don't care anymore.

Of course I do - every single preview video has had that disclaimer.

However, that also makes it imperative that we give feedback immediately in order to avoid a potentially disastrous interface.

It's pretty close to release for major rework. If they did substantially rework it, it's irresponsible to release this preview.
Maybe people who dislike it are in fact in the minority? -- One hopes ZOS had a focus group or some such to get initial impressions of concept...

The problem is with Greymoor just around the corner, whatever interface they decided on is already set in stone. They are way past the design stage where they can make any major UI changes and still meet their June 2nd deadline. So I’m afraid we are stuck with it. I think I want time to play with it on the PTS before I totally trash it.

Major changes can still happen as we don't know how much development has been done that isn't part of what is revealed. There can be branches that they have been working on for a month that are still not part of the release build when they showed a preview.

That being said, I can't imagine a drastic change unless they had another alternative candidate that they were developing in parallel in case the first choice felt unsatisfying. We probably are stuck with this.

Although it would be nice if they had some kind of alternate UI’s they can install before it hits PTS, I still don’t believe they actually have anything at this point other than what you are seeing from the streamers. And as we have seen time and time again, most of the time they rarely do major changes once it hits the PTS.

That wasn’t my first reaction at all.

I was interested to see what they were doing, not looking to overreact to my own agenda

Ahhh... so after you looked at it objectively, you said WTF!

    That’s just how I roll .... 🤔🤔🤔🤯😡

I was very disappointed with the preview of the antiquities interface. It looks like candy crush or tetris or something. Utterly unimpressive and jarring compared to the rest of ESO.

If they could find a way to integrate the "mini" game better with the actual ESO 3rd person camera or force the camera into a first person view of an item that you look at on the ground while the rest of the world is within camera shot it would be infinitely better.

Something more akin to a Cartography Station to try find the location, same zoom kinda effect as crafting stations, and when you arrive at a dig site instead let us set up an Excavation Station to perform the dig.

I want to feel like I'm still playing within ESO - not snap to another screen of an interface that feels out of place.

The interface needs serious work and I hope they revise it.

EDIT: Saw this in another thread, but perhaps reconsider how the Antiquities system plays out completely. Look at how wonderfully you executed Thieves Guild Heists and Dark Brotherhood sacraments... what about making interact with the actual ESO world for this system. Give us a random ruin that changes depending on your skill tree, I want to avoid booby traps, I want to feel like I'm actually doing the excavating without it being a Candy Crush game.

you do realise that none of it is final? all that you see is just test versions and they are in no way the final version

No, it is not the final version, but it is really close to it. At this stage, primary game play development is complete. It is an accurate representation of what they would like the game play to be. What is likely to change is cosmetic and the final tuning.

Which is OK with me. I’m fine with having some kind of skill/puzzle based challenge, like a more complex lock picking, and the actual gameplay looks... acceptable. I just don’t feel the existing designs are either very ESO or very coherent as a duo.

In my view the two activities should have the same design aesthetic and feel like part of the same process. At the moment the contrast from spaceship chic to cartoon phonegame is way too drastic.

So I hope they settle on a design that is both more in keeping with ESO and has a greater coherence between the two elements. Otherwise it’s just a bunch of random stuff they’ve thrown together, which is not very inspiring.

I was hoping the antiquities sytem would be a fun addition but from the evidence here (and I know this is not necessarily the end product) I am rather disappointed that it is not more tied in with the Elder Scrolls overall theme. This looks more like a mobile game as others have said, and it seems obvious how this could (and probably will be) monetised further. It seems like a real missed opportunity as here is so much more in the lore or stories that this could relate to in some way but it doesn't. I don't play mobile games and don't like them. So far, so disappointing, though I'll reserve judgment till I see the final product.

There is an actual concern. The game currently times out for "inactivity" while you are actively generating a character, so I would expect that these minigames would not count as "activity". If you spend too long in them, even if you are active in the minigame, you might get booted from the server.

My biggest problem with Antiquities is.. it will force whole Eso pop to do this early 90s game to gain OP mythic items.. and it will be really fun to do this NO FUN Game by default for 100 times to get some 100% needed op items ..

I would love for them to change the mobile look to more of the art style of the elder scrolls card game. If they have to make it a separate interface, please make it in the same style as the loadingscreen art, like the tools on the side of the digsite. ESO is so beatiful and that feeling gets lost with the way that dirt looks for example. Perhaps add our characters hands in the frame too so we feel like we're there as our characters?

Did i say this yet, i will NOT be buying greymoor at full price.... waiting for the 7$ sale...
After careful consideration (and oh! so much deliberation) we have concluded that you circumstance sounds too much like a l2p issue for it to be just a mere coincidence.

I will roleplay that I am sitting there on a nice chair while letting my workers do the excavation and I just direct their moves. :)
