I am just confused by them. I had 3 different ones in Northern Elsweyr that gave me identical items even though they were numbered differently and in separate locations. Is that intended? Waste of time, that was.

I think they are the biggest waste of time in the game in terms of ROI. The treasure maps may not be that bad but some of the zone designs in this game makes it so annoying to travel overland that it's simply not worth it to dig up a map. I really wish you could sell them to merchants, even for 0g, as that's faster than deleting and confirming the delete.

The problem with many zones, particularly the base game AD zones, is that they act as natural mazes. Zones like Malabal Tor, Grahtwood, and Greenshade are bland, boring AND simultaneously annoying. Every rise in terrain is an impassable wall. Every drop is a cliff. Every root is barrier and every stream is an enclosed hallway.

And ZOS' formula for creating any flowing water must be:

Width = J +1 pixels. Where J is the maximum distance a mounted player can jump
Depth = D + 1 pixels where D is the depth that dismounts a player.

Way too annoying for a handful of gold and a green item. I can make more gold running a lap around Hollow City picking flowers than I can digging up a pack full of maps. So it's low revenue and no fun. Pass.

I like them, I enjoy trying to find them on my own, but not enough to do them just for the sake of doing them. If there's a particular overland set I want I'll save them for when I have some time to kill, and even buy them off traders if I happen to see them. When I'm ready I'll do the maps first and hopefully get lucky with a couple pieces and then I kill what I need to for the rest of the set.

Some of them are just inventory clutter but that's more an issue with set design that it is with the maps themselves.

Surveyor Maps are great. Treasure maps never seem to be worth it.

Even with a mod that shows exactly where the treasure is hidden, still usually not worth going out of the way to get them. That seems broken to me

Back in 2014 they were awesome!

These days.. well I still love the concept but there's no actual reward for doing them. Chests should be renewed somehow so there would be a point to find them.

I still do unlock every single chest that I will see though. Somehow I just really love the (simple) lockpicking mechanic - although it could be more complex these days as I can't even remember how many years ago I failed to unlock one.

And the maps should stack like surveys. Nothing more annoying than having two "unique" items (well yea there's bunch of other things that are way more annoying but..)

I think it depends on the map. If they're for a zone that drops pricey sets like Mother's Sorrow, then yes. Really any other situation, no.

They need to re-new the interest for them by updating the contents and including the likes of rare mounts & house items.

Love ‘em! Instead of it being “grindy” - I have the free version of the ESO App open for easy locating - and use the opportunity to farm materials as I run from the wayshrine to the chest. Then I hand-down all of the green and blue items to my alt characters to decon for skill levelling, and save any zone gear set pieces I still might need.

It’s a good way to complete some of the more sought-after gear sets from like, Orsinium, Deshaan, Murkmire, etc.

Treasure maps would be 100% better if they would just stack and be allowed to deposit in guild banks.

for levellers, casuals and rp'ers, treasure maps are probably fun...
but for end gamers they quickly become boring and a waste of time and space as the 'rewards' are next to useless.

It would be interesting if they dropped some of the Crown crate or gem exclusive items. And not the useless low grade garbage either.

Love them! I use whichever character is working on the "loot 1000 chests" achievement at the moment and then vendor greens and decon blues/glyphs on characters that are leveling crafts. And sell stuff that's valuable.
Pointless. Any vet will tell how unexciting treasure maps are.

I've played since launch and I still enjoy treasure maps, so YMMV.

Treasure maps typically have some gold, a glyph a couple of random gear and 1-2 set items from the zone they are in. What set item it is depends on RNG, so you can get the same items from more than one chest.

The vendor value of items usually hovers around 300 gold, which of course does not count the trade value of some of the sets, which could be far higher.

I have all zones discovered on a character, and most on the others, so it's not hard to pick them up. I wait till I get more of them and then get all.

Imagine if they could lead to a secret solo dungeon via portal sometimes, with more treasure inside. this is how they work in FFXIV, and are group events there, but I think ESO would better be suited to a solo mode.

I'm a sucker for treasure maps. I get them, save them, and then go galloping across the countryside, excited to see what is in the chest! But, I've come to realize the goods aren't going to be earth-shattering. I've even saved the maps for a high level character, but still not too impressed. Still, I just can't seem to let them go - I probably need an intervention or something. Anyone else feel this way?

I have a bunch in the bank. When I hit duplicates is when I empty out and go treasure hunting for fun.
