Treasure Maps: Love them or Hate them?

I'm a sucker for treasure maps. I get them, save them, and then go galloping across the countryside, excited to see what is in the chest! But, I've come to realize the goods aren't going to be earth-shattering. I've even saved the maps for a high level character, but still not too impressed. Still, I just can't seem to let them go - I probably need an intervention or something. Anyone else feel this way?

I like them. For me the search is where the fun lies. I feel a sense of accomplishment if I work out the location on my own. Sometimes they can be frustrating if they are too vague or poorly drawn. Or in a place where everything looks the same like Elsweyr.

I only keep the ones that are in the zone I am doing at the moment.
I don't use any addons to find the treasure makes it an actually treasure hunt !
When I visit a new zone I just buy them from guild stores.

Love 'em! Hunting for the right spot is a giggle, and I like them as a way of getting specific overland sets when your leveling up. Getting specific gear on the traders for characters below 160 can be tricky and the treasure maps add another way of putting a set together. Not guaranteed, of course but ups the chances. Also helps if you have the Treasure Hunter (or whatever it's called) perk from CP points.

Yeah I like them, they add to the game. :)

I made a point of finding treasures myself when treasure maps came out. The searching was fun, but only the first time around. Now you can use add-ons that put a marker on your map, or check a map's location on websites. There's not much to it, I just let them pile up and may consider doing them if I need the bag/bank space, but it feels like a chore. The rewards are trash, there is absolutely nothing special in those chests. Maybe the artifact system coming with Greymoor will breathe new life into this, but right now it's a dud.

I only look up the location if I feel I have already spent an inordinate amount of time searching.

They are an inventory hassle, nothing more. I can count the number of useful things I have pulled out of them on one hand. I did once pull a MS inferno staff from one, but still not worth the effort 99.99% of the time.

HATE them. useless rewards and unnecessary inventory clutter. if they didn't clog up bank space, maybe i could tolerate them.

Hate the treasure maps, as they almost never give anything worth while. Love the surveyor maps for the resources

I like them the most when i have a new char to max out crafts on, using the treasure maps on my cp160+ main, banking the haul that isn't selling for a fortune for my newbie to decon. Once in a while you find something neat that can sell for 50-100-200k if you get the right traits on certain sets, So I don't mind them at all + its a good excuse to do my surveys and a little en route harvesting done :D
    Edit = Typos ... as usual. <;D

Pointless. Any vet will tell how unexciting treasure maps are.

@InaMoonlight That IS a good point on selling some of the gear that you receive from the chests.

Currently they are taking a space in the Bank, and I keep telling myself that I'll do them one day, the day that never seems to come. :#

I'm too greedy to ditch them but I dread the chore of fetching them as it's always trash.
Psijic portals however get me excited.

I'll take a day about every 2 weeks and do a T-Map run. I harvest mats, etc while I'm doing it. But there are locations in Shadowfen, Wrothgar and others that are too annoying to bother with.

Maybe if they didn't give crap drops I would think better of them.
  • ghrowlb14a_ESO
I love doing the treasure maps, I farm for materials and get the treasure chests along the way, it keeps me interested in farming for mats, i can't just farm mats for hours, I need some distractions in between and farming mats on the way to get treasure chests and this makes it not at all boring =)

ZOS should give very rare chance to get recipes or even style pages in treasure chests. You can get alliance armor style pages in Cyrodiil and it makes them much more exciting and valuable. If I have even a small, but still a chance for something really good in any treasure chest - ot would be more fun to find them. It can be almost anything - amount of gold should be more random - from 50 to even 1-2k. Maybe small chance for jewelry mats? I can get a trash in 95% cases, but give me at least this 5% of something interesting and good!

I've been buying them from Traders for specific zones, so if they're cluttering up your inventory that might be a good way of shifting them usefully?

Most of the one's I get are for the starter zones which are the worst of the bunch. Armor of the Trainee at 1000+ CP? *!&(# please! If it weren't for the chance of a malachite shard or a piece of a decent overland set from specific zones, I wouldn't waste any time on these.

With the add-on, I just do them when I'm in the zone. They're just a prompt to explore, and they serve the purpose.

They are okay; it's free gold. The best ones, imo, are the ones for cyrodiil because the motif drop rate seems good for the risk you take by going to cyrodiil. :D The motif that drops depends on the character picking it up meaning AD characters will only get AD motifs, EP-EP, and DC-DC.

Lately I have been deleting the beginner zone ones, but I will use the others.

    Might be joking in comments.

I sell most of them for 100 gold each. Except the ones where you can get like Bright-Throat's Boast and other popular sets. I sell these for some 1500 gold, or simply use them and sell the contents if any good.

Imagine if they could lead to a secret solo dungeon via portal sometimes, with more treasure inside. this is how they work in FFXIV, and are group events there, but I think ESO would better be suited to a solo mode.

Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

I hate them and always destroy them, but i let the ones from Deshaan, Bangkorai and Malabal Tor, it's always fun to find a MS Inferno Staff or a Spriggan's Maul
Jack of all trades. Master of at least one.

Mainly they need to stack like Surveys.

FFXIV treasure maps always involve a fight and I'm not sure I like that but the special portal ones are really interesting, with an RNG element that adds excitement about how far you can go.

They’re vaguely interesting the first time, then fundamentally valueless, with the exception of 2 or 3 zones where the overland gear is worth keeping or selling.

    They absolutely should stack

As it is I destroy most of them on sight as they’re bag blockers

i like them, just not very good loot.
what would be awesome is if sometimes got a rare chance that once in a while we would find chests with

map that leads to a chest with 250,000 GOLD in it or something like that MAN I WOULD LOVE THAT!
