Feared into walls - fix it or remove fear

We all know you're struggling, ZOS, but this is an easy one. Your PVE fear mechanic is broken and constantly pushes players into walls. It's happened in 3/3 dungeons today (vMA ice stage, Wayrest Sewers, and Blessed Crucible) and you've given no indication of having the ability or desire to fix it. So just remove the fear mechanic and be done with it.

    They changed the fear cast by players to no longer cause enemies to run; they instead cower in place. For some reason--oversight, perhaps?--the fear cast by enemies did not get the same treatment.

    Doing the Elsweyr prequels you are sent to 3x Nord dungeons, the various ghosts can "fear" you through the walls and into the scenery. Very annoying. It has been that way for a long time. (report under bug reports).

    Another author alludes to is changes in the way NPCs react to your combat. I find it sad that many of the combat "mechanics" that we used to have are now lost; for example knockback and stun - some of these were not that powerful, just fun to use. Removing the fun from the game is not a good thing.

    Just make fear not make you run away. Make it have people cower in place.
    Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

    If you want fear removed, you must upgrade. Upgrade, or be deleted.

    I particularly liked the moments when my friends are feared into furniture. Cue many screenshots.

    Funny the first couple of times. A bit wearisome after that.

    I like the cower in place mechanic, although sometimes it can be hard to see amid the cacophony of visual effects. I hope that can be implemented into older content.

    It is funny how mobs / bosses still use "the old" fear, the one that makes you run in random direction, but the one players cast, makes you standing still...

    Agree with OP 1,000 % this is a ridiculous problem to have in a game and displays the apathy of a company to fix easy problems. Wayrest is one of the worst places this happens. Blessed Crucible and Crypt of Hearts too.

    And ZOS, while you’re not at it, I guess you also will not fix the problem of doors not opening. Since your last few updates I’ve observed frequent problems trying to proceed in dungeons because the doors won’t open when you are ready to move on. They eventually work, but again, a ridiculous problem to have and NOT FIX, like Fear.

    If you break cc fast enough you won't go into the wall. It's obviously a bug, but an easily avoidable one. Sort of a l2p issue.

    Agreed. The only time I remember getting feared into a wall was in Wayrest, and I don't even remember how long ago that was.

    Also, there are dozens of "immobilize-type" crowd control, but precious few "flee-type". I would much rather see ZOS fix fear to take obstacles into account than see it changed into yet another immobilise.

    Two days ago, I was collecting shards in delves. In one of them, a ghost used fear and my char ran into a tomb n got stuck inside it... I had to travel to get unstuck...

    PvE fear should work as the PvP fear: standing still if affected.

    Except fear has another lovely bug that prevents you from breaking free from it for about 2 seconds. At which point you're probably already inside that damn wall.

    Running into walls is sloppy and makes the game look poorly handled. Unless there is some reason I'm not seeing, just make mob fear hold players in place. It makes the skill line up with what players have and removes the whole wall issue. Since this hasn't been done, my only assumption is that it would be too much work to make the change and ZOS is happier with the sloppy mess of players being thrown into terrain instead.

    Crypt of Hearts can be doubly annoying. I was stuck battling the mini-boss solo outside the dungeon, because it managed to follow me through the wall. As tank, it was slow progress to get back inside.

    Oh it's worse than you think! Have you tried tanking the first boss in Moongrave Fane? Try standing still when it charges. It will push you through the ground and because there is nothing under the ground, you fall out of the world and get ported to the entrance of the dungeon. If the boss happens to die while you are falling, you are not eligible for loot since you were too far away.

    It seems that all forced movement can get you through walls.
    This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

    I had made a similar topic some months ago and ofc nothing got fixed. It was totally ignored. Yours will be ignored too. They aint fixing it.

    As others have similarly said, sometimes easier said than done. One of the worst areas in Wayrest is with the second Boss at the stairs. If you are near the stairs you can easily get immediately feared into the stairs. I’ve seen it occur many times. If you’re close to a wall too. And yesterday in Blessed Crucible I was feared into the ground. Break free of that ...

    Yes, sometimes you can break out of it in time. But the point here is that the problem should not exist at all. And further, even though an easy fix could be done ZOS has clearly not put any effort into fixing it.

    Fix Fear or remove it.

    I'm at the point with this game where I think they should do that with everything. Fix it or remove it. If you can't stun break in pvp and you can't make it work right, then take stuns out of pvp. If you can't make it so wrecking blow, jabs, streak, etc. work b/c your servers are too laggy, then take them out of the game. It's past time for us to be playing with a half broken game after all these years.

    If they did that they'd need to remove about 65% of the game.

    That's because everyone agrees with you there. But many of us are also realistic about our expectations, given the history of ZOS actually fixing stuff thus far.

    Also enemies that run or back up and lodge themselves into walls, rocks, crates etc. Can't damage them anymore.

    Happened occasionally to me on knockback. Whack! Through the wall and drifting through the limbo of that weird outside the dungeon in-between space. Then I drifted back, very odd experience.

    @LadyDestiny: I've had 'some' success with those using AOEs. Doesn't always work, hence the 'some'...
