Normally I'm of the mind that Zenimax has the numbers and knows when to take the game for maintenance and it will affect someone ...

But I do agree, Friday is kinda a bad day all around. Same for the weekend in general (unless it is an extreme emergency).

for some reason it wont let me quote this so i will post it in its entirety for those dimwitted enuff to keep thinking this is about the bank patch it is not

Starting immediately, we have changed the regular maintenance times for The Elder Scrolls Online, based on player feedback. The game undergoes regular maintenance to provide you with the best service possible. We have scheduled the following windows for this purpose, although we may not need to use them every week:

    North American Megaserver
Tuesdays at 8:00am EDT (12pm GMT)
Fridays at 8:00am EDT (12pm GMT)

    European Megaserver
Tuesdays at 6:00am CEST (5:00am BST)
Fridays at 6:00am CEST (5:00am BST)

We will always message maintenances the day before, including a notification if the maintenance is not needed. Most regularly scheduled maintenance periods will last for no more than a few hours. During these times, we'll deploy patches, server optimizations, database updates, hardware upgrades, and perform other routines that keep ESO running smoothly.

Did no one read the notes a few days ago when they posted the normal maint schedule (friday is not one of the days) but the posting dev/admin stated that they MAY have to do further maintenence again this week to deal with the current issues going on? Friday isnt the normal maint day, its an out of the ordinary emergency sort of maint.

Well crap, I stand corrected and am not sure how I missed that with how often I spend each night at work hunting through the developer tracker threads.
Well now I guess I want to join the rabble rabble.

Instead of moaning how about you first go see "why" there is maintenance?

They are introducing the fixes for the bank bug.

I'd rather not lose everything in my bank and happily will wait for Maintenance to be done.

instead of bitching and whining about 5% of the player base and fixing bugs, how bout u read the changes to the downtime schedule posted by jessica stating this is an ongoing thing, to screw up prime time for the half of the world that doesnt revolve around the US of A and europe.

Why should we be penalised just so u can play in prime time.

I swear one day in the future a gaming company is going to create a game with only an Australian megaserver and i am gonna sit here laughing my ass off at all the north American idiots complaining about patches in there prime time. It will be poetic friggin justice.
Considering there is not a big enough market for them to create a game with solely Australia in mind shouldn't you just consider yourself lucky enough to play on any server period?

Yes, Friday maintenance is the worst. I don't understand the OP, though, are they doing maintenance twice per week? That's absurd, if so.

Uh, once a week is absurd. I woke up early on my day off to play ESO and can't.

Its hard to believe its 2014 and gamers are OK with "weekly maintenance." I'm no computer programmer, just some guy that plays video games, but seriously how is possible that not one single bright programmer/technician/engineer has found a way to keep servers running longer than 6 days in a row without shutdown???

My guess: it cuts into profits.

TLDR: Enough with weekly server shutdowns. Solve this.

This game is less then a month old and youre complaining about the servers being shut down for "weekly" maintance and not even "biweekly maintance." Go to a proper thread and complain about your garbage

However I do feel Zenimax should push the time on Friday morning back to start around 3am, or just move it back to Thursday but the time need to start around 3am regardless.

Friday patches are a crazy idea, and not just because a lot of people play on Friday but because patches always bring bugs and patching right before a weekend is just nuts.

For those who have said we like Friday maintenance in the US, I wholeheartedly disagree. Many in the US have the day off today, making it especially ill-timed. I can't imagine a better maintenance time than mid-week from 2am-7am, give or take.

EQ2 is Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can't have them back to back because there isn't enough time to fix problems that arose and complete the next patch. This game is more complex than a lot of existing games, so it make take longer to get each patch ready. However, I agree that I don't see the harm in Thursdays otherwise.

Wow Hostel_Striker... Exactly who do you think you are to even consider that as a reasonable response to a perfectly legitimate complaint? Lucky? Lucky that we paid more for the game than most any other subscribers?

I love how Jessica didn't specify how long the maintenance would last, I guess that part isn't "scheduled." However if they were able to have 3hr maintenance (or roughly the length of a movie) I don't think anyone in their right mind would complain ever. In fact I would support 2 x 3hr maintenance over a 6hours maintenance. But if these two scheduled maintenance are 6hrs+ I will not be renewing my subscription as much as that pains me to say.

This is another good reason not to patch on a Friday. If your patch is messing things up, you start killing people's weekend. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Cancelled my sub and am off to play other games. Doubt that Zen will feel the affects but I won't saying anything nice about them, Bethseda, etc. Basically I feel like I have spent $80 on a game that I could barely play for a month owing to maintenance windows set by morons.

Summing up my experience of ESO - disappointing.

Don't let the thread die if you want any chance (as unlikely as it is) to get Maintenance moved from Fridaythemostretarteddecisionever day to any other weekday. The best choice for double maintenance seems to be Monday & Thursday and if it was just a single maintenance window then Tuesday seems the best.
I would suggest logging a ticket as well to make it more formal...

I agree friday sucks..I worry that if something goes wrong the weekend becomes a mess of followups that eat into friday evening and the weekend time. If you did the patching on thursday theres still the possibility of using friday to undo "unexpected problems". clearing up the weekend.

Not "dissing" or "bashing" OP as I kind of agree on Friday being a weird maintenance day, but people complained about Tuesday and Thursday, now they complain about the new schedule, the fact is unless they do ZERO maintenance someone is always going to whine and moan about the days and times they do maintenance. Hell they could do it at like 2AM to everyone's local time and someone would still complain. It will just never end.

The simple fact of the matter is Tues/Thurs is not a prime timeslot for anyone. Friday - Be it 10pm at night for us Aussies or 8am for the yanks. Friday is a bad BAD day for maintenance. Yes there's always going to be someone put out by maintenance but why stuff around an entire region with this?

Regardless of any minority/majority argument, you have hundreds of thousands of customers in this region. Why turn your back on them like this?

The fact we've still not had anything official from ZOS about this sadly says quite a lot about the company. I love TES, have done so for many many years. but WOW ZOS. Really? I really thought more of you... Do we really have another ActiBlizz on our hands? I thought a company like that was one of a kind.

Disappointed is a serious understatement... If you ship to a worldwide audience, accommodate them.

Personally, the times suit me perfectly (as I'm sure is the case with many other US/Canadian players).

Nothing is worse than the server going down Friday/Saturday nights (US time). That is prime playing time here and many kids these days like to play all night Friday and Saturday.

Friday mornings maintenance is perfect as it ensure the servers are re-set just in time for heavy playing.

As time goes by I'm sure they will do less and less frequent maintenance and maybe they can drop Fridays once they get everything properly sorted.

In the mean time, I think it is what it is. I'm not completely unsympathetic to our friends from across the ponds but I doubt anything is going to change.

In this case, I think the OP has a valid point. Friday maintenance windows, barring a valid emergency situation, are just poor planning. Switch it to Thursday and I imagine there would be less of a complaint in general from all sides.
