Friday downtime for the WIN, patch doesnt work, everones in on Overtime pay Job Done.

A little sarcastic i know but the point really is if you patch friday morning and it doesnt work you have a friday afternoon fix to sort, now unless they have softies working 7 days a week on shifts thats always going to be a problem.

Sheduled maintenance on the last day of a working week isnt the ideal situation anyway, when you're intending running on low or no manning over the weekend.

It does achieve a better spread of downtime, allowing things to actually get done before the next time.

My vote. NO to friday downtime, its just......Silly

Did no one read the notes a few days ago when they posted the normal maint schedule (friday is not one of the days) but the posting dev/admin stated that they MAY have to do further maintenence again this week to deal with the current issues going on? Friday isnt the normal maint day, its an out of the ordinary emergency sort of maint.

Anyone crossing fingers for an 11:30am server open? I mean c'mon... Most MMORPG's cut it an half hour short.

Patching on Fridays is a bad idea. If I released code on a Friday my boss would beat me into a pulp. You don't release code changes then go home for the weekend! Many places actually have rules that no code can be released on Fridays unless its a showstopping fix.

Umm to Quote their own message
We will be performing a regularly scheduled maintenance on the European and North American megaservers tomorrow, Friday April 18th.

It may have escaped their notice but Words actually have meanings associated with them, theres a big book called a Dictionary they might want to take a look at and start using the correct ones.

Also, Friday day is better than Friday night, in the U.S. at least.

I think if it was a few hours earlier the problem is solved. I live in North America and the maintenance falls at a time that is daylight hours here. Doesn't make any sense for a North American server to be down during daylight hours in North America. Maybe 1-2 other servers that take into consideration other parts of the world is an even better solution.

    This is my hope...

Agree from your point of view but overall Friday is the worst day they could've picked overall and you'd be a mad man to do it on the weekend. There are 4 other non-prime days in the week. Surely it wouldn't hurt to do it Thursdays.

Well something from ZOS acknowledging they made a huge stuff up by doing maintenance on a Friday, on a public holiday and during the peak of aussie game time!

Aaahhhh yes my illustrious friend. But if you will humour me for a moment, I will make the following 2 points.

1: As per the threads mentioned above, it is quite amusing to see one's reaction when his shoe is placed on the other foot so to speak.

2: This downtime clearly doesn't impact you in the slightest and as per all the previous posts in this thread and a number of others, there are a number of people who this does in fact impact.

Actually Friday is my day off so it does effect me as you say. I will admit i understand primtime sucks for some, but not others. no matter what time or day it's going to effect someone when you have a multi national community with millions of people. I just don't see the point in complaining about it :)

Not if you live in a region that makes up less than 5% of players. Id rather they fix the bank issue for players who have it than worry about pissing some aussie off.

I never understood why you would bring your server down in the middle of the day and not perform routine maintenance and patch integration during a more hospitable time, impacting the least amount of paying customers. Its not like your servers are not regionally based, allowing you to perform your updates during say when 90% of the country is sleeping, especially considering how much downtime this game is undergoing.

That's like closing the bar during happy hour.
Just seems like crap business sense.

Friday night primetimes around the world are the only times to consider here. Friday night primetimes are contained within a 24 hour period, so simply making maintenance another day than Friday will fix this.

    Maintenance started

there's actually a 3-hour dif between east and west, so 10 EST would be 7 over here. I don't like that idea for myself or others who work the typical 9-5, M-F, as evenings (and weekends) are the only playtime. I'm for middle-of-the-night, weekday, maintenance, personally.

No, there's only a two hour difference. At least during non-daylight-saving times. Eastern Standard Time is UTC+10, with daylight time going to +11. Queensland stays in standard time all year round. WA is UTC+8, with central Australia being +9:30, or +10:30 for SA during DST.

Or you can do it like a normal company. Sunday Night 2AM EST and Tuesday Night 2AM EST.

I never post, in fact I haven't tried to play any game in 5 years - let alone subscribe. But I go and sub this game to play this one twice while on vacation Tuesday 8am and Friday 8am and BOTH times I end up turned away unhappy.

If I'm going to beta a game, I'll do EQN which is free and I love the Frostbite engine.

    Seriously change the maintenance schedule.

This is something i think many haven't taken into consideration. It eventually will most likely be one day a week once things are ironed out. I recall Jessica mentioning they will not do a 2nd days maintenance if it wasn't required.

In the IT world, when my boss expects 99% uptime for servers and services, having downtime is no excuse unless it's a company wide shutdown.
There are solutions out there like Virtualize Servers (VM, Hyper-V) and SQL servers that are able to be fully redundant, high availability and you can perform rolling patches without downtime. Unless of course there are severe changes to the programming codes or DB tabling structures. Even migration to entire new set of hardware have only minimal disruptions.
    Just giving my input.

The original change was made because of complaints... well... that and a mysterious user poll that nobody seems to have been made aware of, or been a part of lol.

I guess the point is that if we don't voice our concerns, nothing will be done about them. They did Sunday maintenance, there was an uproar, they addressed it. Hopefully the same will happen in this case also.
