Recipes Learned Need to Be Account Wide

When one of a players characters finds crafting materials, accumulates AP, Telvar, Transmute crystals undaunted keys they are account wide. So why not all Recipes that are found and learned? I don't see why allowing learned recipes to be account wide gives any player with several characters any advantage. What it does do is alleviate the need to go to one character that knows a particular recipe in order to make it so another one of the players characters who does not know the recipe can use the food or drink made. Would be nice to get an answer behind the reasoning why found and learned recipes are not account wide ZOS.

Recipes level your provisioning. Just do the rare recipes on your main crafter. You can't read an already learned recipe, so making them account wide would lose that inspiration source. Since every character benefits from having the provisioning skill that increases the duration of food/drink, there is benefit to all being able to get that additional inspiration. Recipes also impact master writ drop rates, which are character based, not account based.

Currencies are account wide, but they are currencies. I'm not sure why you linked recipes and currencies. And telvar is not actually account wide. It would break the system since having them on your person increases the multiplier. AP is also not account-wide.

Its alright that chars specialize - why else would you need different ones? If you go to a dungeon and the group needs a healer, you log to the healer, you don't snap your fingers and your big tank suddenly starts to care for the group like a pro. So if you need a stack of buff food once in a while and log to your cook - where's the problem?
If every char was a swiss army knife the game would be boring pretty quickly - and dead pretty quickly with no goals or options to explore. Game too easy - no challenge - people wander off to other games. ESO offers enough lazy shortcuts these last months/year - like buying skyshards or riding lessons (those count for all mounts now even, in the beginning you had to train each and every mount for themselves), or vampire/werewolf bites. You can find receipes with every char, put them into your bank and get them out with your master crafter. ESO offers enough skillpoints to concentrate all your crafts on one char. So you're free to specialize your other chars on other things.
Thats a good thing and because of all those reasons the system as it is should stay as it is.

Much like motif knowledge, recipe knowledge impacts the chance you'll receive master writs from doing the daily crafting writs. Its a pretty noticeable difference between my main crafter with lots of recipe knowledge than on my alt crafters with very few.

So unless ZOS were inclined to either redo how master writs are awarded or to inflate the number of master writs handed out, I don't expect them to change character-specific crafting knowledge.

(Also, crafting mats are only available account-wide when you find them if you are a subscriber with Craft Bag. Otherwise, you've got to deposit them in a bank or storage.)

That isn't a reason to not do it. Are we going to say next that all drops should be 10x rarer to help the markets?

The reason for it to be this way are crafting related.

The answer is pretty simple. My pantry has ingredients my entire family can use. However, they have to learn how to cook a recipe themselves as that knowledge is not shared. So it does not make sense for their to be a correlation between materials being shared and recipes. That is the answer for OP's question.

And as Varanis mentioned, the current system has ties to other systems such the Master Writs. I doubt Zos wants to rework that so you can pretty much expect have to learn each recipe on each character separately.

This would be nice, motifs too, even if it does make farming masterwrits easier.

When I get a motif it's just annoying, I have to bank it, and I have no bank space at the moment, to somehow get it onto my main, where I can actually read it.
worst bit is I switched mains so now it's not even my main that gets them all...

That's not account-wide, that's bankable. You have to unlock alliance passives on every character.

The foods I make on my crafter are bankable as well.

Well, in that case recipes are account-wide too. You have to deposit them in the bank first. And just like recipes, once gold/telvar/AP is removed and spent on one character, it's gone.

Those are bankable, not the same thing as “account wide”, just so you know. If I craft a set of Hundings Rage gear I can put it in the bank, one of my other characters can take it out and use it, that’s the same as Telvar, AP and gold. That’s not the same thing as crafting and having it automatically apply to all of my characters.

To continue using your examples, I have 6 million AP on my DK right now. I can’t log into my Templar and spend that AP, because it’s not account wide, it’s on my DK. I have lots of Telvar on my magblade. I can’t log into my DK and buy things with that Telvar, those belong to a single character until and unless they are banked. If I learn how to make a Horker Loaf on my Templar, it doesn’t mean that my Stamden knows how to make Horker Loaf. To use all of the above examples, my Stamden doesn’t know how to make Horker Loaf, doesn’t have AP, doesn’t have Telvar.

Wellllllll.... kind of. In my house the recipe books are accessible by everyone too. And once someone reads a recipe and tries to make it, the book doesn't disappear into the ether. It is still physically there for others to read.

I'll grant that in the ESO recipes work like motifs so in ESO it makes more sense to compare those two than it does to compare recipes to currency. Additionally in ESOland, recipes and motifs work like Bind on Equip gear, the entire concept of which is more to extend the replayability of the game than to feel "realistic." Which I think is the real answer to the question.

Another part of this, historically, is that recipes are pre-One Tamriel and originally were to be only available in certain areas. That is why there are three versions of most recipes that use different ingredients and have identical effects. It wouldn't have made any sense for an alt of a different faction to automatically learn recipes in that way.

While I understand the appeal of recipes being account-wide, personally I would rather they stay as-is, but that something be done to add value to the recipes that drop that you already know. We should be able to break them down and get materials of some kind or a currency that can help buy recipes we don't yet know. This would ease inventory issues, make it so that even common recipes have a little more value, and make the per-character progression of recipe knowledge be a little more meaningful. (If our banks have stacks of recipes, it does make it seem like a simple quality of life issue that alts can't just "know" the recipe.)

It follows motif's system. Which could have been changed back when Outfitting stations were added to the game allowing account wide motifs. They choose only to allow you to use account wide outfits <Why all your characters can use whatever motif you learned>, but alts can't craft the item itself.

That essentially tells me they want crafting to be a per character basis. Its a game play thing not any sort of RL connection. They want "master crafters" who have learned everything to be fewer in number, thus making the accomplishment mean more.

Just like crafting motivs are character specific, recipes are as well. Just bank them and learn them all on your provisioning crafter, then let that one do all the cooking for everyone, duh!

    Yeah, THAT!
A lot of people did spend the effort (and gold) to do stuff on several characters, and would feel cheated if the ones who didn't spend the effort now suddenly got the same effect for free.

Also, remember what happened with "account wide shyshards" and "account wide guilds"???

This hasn't been mentioned yet, but there is a market built around selling some rare recipes that would completely tank if they became account wide. For example, my last sale of a Hollowjack motif page sold for 100g more than my last witch outfit page did.

Then take a good, hard look at the prices those go for.

I mean, motivs are sold in the crown store as well... and they are bloody expensive! So, would you -really- lay down a couple thousand crowns or so to mirror recipes? Likely for several categories... mirror all the savories, 3K crowns, mirror all the tonics, another 3K crowns, etc.

Personally I would rather spend gold in guild stores if I really felt the need to have recipes on alts...

All outfit styles are account wide.

The argument against motifs is the same as recipes - motifs count towards master writ reward rates. So unless ZOS wants to overhaul the reward rates or greatly inflate them, plus changing how the achievements work, its unlikely.

Sorry but I don't agree with what you are wanting with this.

There are really only 2 professions that give individual characters any actual benefit and those are provisioning and alchemy by increasing the duration of the effects. Gourmand and connoisseur for provisioning and medicinal use for alchemy and those are easy to get.

I have an addon that lets me know what recipes each of my characters know and if my main crafting character does not know that recipe I put it in the bank and let that character pick it up and learn it. If my main crafter knows it then I send it to my secondary crafter and so on. If all of my characters know it then I will either sell it or give it away.

I have no problem making anything on my main crafter and putting it in the bank for any of my other characters to pick up and use and I make a nice amount when I do so I don't need to do it very often.
