Please stop repeating this condescending BS, @Lady_Linux . Our PS4s have “the chops” to play every game in our libraries, including brand new triple A games and other MMORPGs like FFXIV, with stable frame rates and no to extremely minimal crashes. The only other game I’ve ever played on PS4 that had issues was Tera, a notoriously poorly-optimized game.
One should not require a top of the line gaming PC to play a five year old MMORPG. ESO used to perform well on PS4; it’s the past few updates that have made the game unplayable on our systems. Our PS4s didn’t simultaneously degrade over the past year — the quality of ZOS’s coding did.

That post is absolutly irrelevant to the topic at hand (it's just a very lopsided critique of the PS4 architecture). That fact remains that this game ran perfectly fine on release on PS4's (and the PS4 is perfectly well equipped to run MMO games of any kind).
The problem is that ZOS simply has lost control of the Console code base and very obviously isn't able to fix the game into a working state. From what we can see of their development process it's likely that they develop on their (high-end) PC's and then somehow try to get it to run on Consoles. Which worked less and less over the yeats to the point where they no longer can ship a working product. This is not the fault of the platform or the players, this is the fault of the developer.IwakuraLain42 wrote: »Lady_Linux wrote: »Lady_Linux wrote: »ps4 is eol more or less. it really just doesnt have the chops to keep up with all the upgrades coming down the pike...

It the comment i referenced he mentions that he played Eve online for ten years and over the course of the 10 years the game evolved to the point that old arcitecture could no longer be supported and was dropped, even though it was supported at launch. The same effect is happening now with ESO the minimum standards have changed and older aritecture is being left behind. It's the way of electronics. This month adobe flash has reached EOL. Google chrome will no longer support it either. Despite the fact that many asian markets still use flash it will no longer be developed. It's how it is. And your right. It isnt the platforms fault or the players fault but neither is it the fault of developers having lost control of the code either. Tech is simply moving on. It happens. Sure was fun while it lasted though. c'est la vie.
First of all, neither the PS4 (both models) or the XBox One (also all models) are EOL. The game is still sold and maintained by ZOS, so your comment is irrelevant. It's on the developer to deliver a working product on their supported platforms (all PS4 and XBox One versions) or stop doing so by telling the Console players that they are no longer supported. Which ZOS won't do as it would mean that they would loose 2/3 of their income. In case you still didn't realised it by now, the only reason why you are still able to play the game on PC is the fact they ported the games successfully to Consoles four years ago. With those sales and the playerbase the game would either be dead or in maintenance mode by now.
i understand that the truth is hard to hear. it isnt what you wish it to be. your gear is obsolete for this game. im sorry that it is so but it is clearly so.
all you have to say amounts to a bunch of sour grapes.
There is a fundamental difference you're ignoring... EVE Online is a PC-only game. You can upgrade desktop PCs and, to a lesser extent, laptops. You can't upgrade a console. It is very much on the developer to ensure that the game runs smoothly on the static platform they originally developed for. That is one of the selling points of consoles for a developer: you get a standardised platform, not the endless possible combinations found in PCs.
Incidentally, you seem to find yourself constantly in the middle of flame wars. I mean, it could be that others are belligerent and have it in for you. Or it could be that you're always out looking to pick a fight...

You’re quoting the guy who thought that PS4 “blue screens” were the equivalent of a PC’s BSOD. He is not an authority on modern generation consoles, and is in fact notoriously condescending towards the console player base.
ESO was fully functional on PS4 pre-Elsweyr. There were hiccups here and there, but the game was still playable and the hiccups were resolved in a mostly timely fashion. If a game goes from being mostly playable to consistently unplayable on a particular platform in less than a year, the problem lies with the software, not the hardware. Since ZOS still supports ESO on console and accepts payments from console users, the onus is on ZOS to ensure that the game remains functional on console.
Again, one should not require a top-of-the-line gaming PC to run a five year old MMORPG without frequent crashing. To suggest so is ludicrous.

You said you reported for the game making you damage your console. You said it, not me. It's hyperbolic because unplugging it does NOT damage it. You did not damage your console, nor did the game make you damage your console. I'm not "attacking" you.You don’t even know what I put in my report. A false report? I reported precisely what was happening. You’re attacking me for being hyperbolic? Don’t respond to me next time. If I pay for a game to work, and it doesn’t someone’s gonna hear me.This game is making me do damage to my ps4. I'm reporting this to Sony.
Sad to say it does damage the console when constantly having to pull the power plug. You can fry your system that way.
It doesn't damage the machine. The only way you're going to fry your machine is with a power surge, not by cutting power. You can even look it up, worst that can happen is corrupted data like I said. The PS4 will generally check if this has happened.
Modern machines and modern harddrives are already designed with sudden power loss in mind. The heads on old school harddrives used to clamp down when power was cut, and if this was repeated alot it would ruin the HDD physically. This has long since been mitigated against. Modern HDDs store enough power to park the heads in the event of an unplanned shutdown, preventing actual hardware damage. This isn't the 1990s.

Prior to patch: I wasn't experiencing as many problems as most people reporting in were.
- Blue screens were rare and slowly became more frequent. They were their worst after the Dragonguard event started. Earlier in the week, I experienced several blue screens in one day while fighting dragons, which resulted in un-loot-able dragon corpses. Blue screened a few times at outfit stations or guild merchants. Load screens sometimes froze while traveling to Elsweyr.
- Input lag and targeting issues. Skills would misfire, or would fire without animation. Inability to target enemies, especially with lightning staff HAs. Bar swapping issues. Sometimes, trouble looting harvesting nodes, requiring manic (X) button mashing.
- Framerate dips, especially in Elsweyr. Turning boost mode off on my PS4 helped this, but didn't eliminate it.
- Invisible dragon AOEs for a while after arriving at an encounter in progress. Dragons would occasionally pivot in place or skip animations.
- No problems to report inside delves or dungeons.
Now: Seeing an improvement, actually.
- No blue screens so far. A load screen froze while traveling to Elsweyr. Menu hung at a guild merchant, forcing me to close the application, but it didn't blue screen!
- Skills still sometimes misfire or skip animation at the very start of an encounter, but it starts to behave itself once all of the assets have settled in. Having a slightly easier time targeting. Harvesting nodes is still a bit pffft but there may be a slight improvement here.
- Framerate dips are still present.
- Dragon AOEs are still invisible when arriving at an encounter in progress. Dragons still pivot when there are a lot of people fighting them.
- No problems to report inside delves or dungeons.

Trying to anything that is enjoyable that still in the game is literally unplayable on ps4. The maintenance bandaid that you guys did a week ago literally did nothing. I still crash just as frequently if not more. This should be a top most priority if you want to keep the console community still active. Why do we have to suffer through this plague that you created that you don’t even care about. Leaving things in your game that makes it not enjoyable or literally unplayable is not a good model to stand by. 3 years ago is was permanent load screens. Took 2 and a half months to fix. 2 years ago it was freezing in high traffic areas. Again 2-3 months for a fix. 1 year ago it was load screens mid fight. Once again 2-3 months before it was “hot fixed”, which is still broken to this day but not as bad but still terrible. 6 months ago bash builds were making people quit by the thousands. Again on console took until next dlc came out until that was even addressed. Every chapter you guys have released something that make your game literally unplayable and it takes months to fix. And by the time it get looks at and put a awful bandaid fix on it the chapter is out and the cycle continues. Wonder what next years game plaguing thing is going to happen. All in all fix crashing/bluescreen soon. Because life in cyrodiil is literally unplayable. What to take a castle with 12 people? HAHA FUNNY, more than likely 7-8 of those people in your group just bluescreened. Now good luck taking it with 3 people and those are support roles. It’s honestly a joke at this point because console players are going to have to wait until next year in February or March to get a fix. Because zos thinks their “maintenance patch” that was done a week ago was enough. Why settle for such low standards? If this was any other gaming company the servers would be taken down entirely and fixed within a couple of days. If you want to know what I’m complaining about watch this it explains it all.https://youtu.be/xZ46xn_6Pfg

(snip)
(snip) In relation to your problem, things you could try:
1) Update your PS4.
2) Upgrade your PS4
3) Dont do cyro on PS4
OR
4) Give your PS4 HDD some love. the PS4 basically has inadequate memory to run ESO. On top of that it is shared between the CPU and GPU giving it a backwards integrated CPU instead of graphics card. To compensate the system has to use the extremely slow HDD as additional memory.
HDDs need to be kept fairly empty and defragged often to keep them in an acceptable working state( Used more than for just storage). Typically at about 50% capacity used is where most users will realize their system is getting slower. About 75% its really slow and by 90% you start a task on it in the morning before work or school and it will be completed just after dinner.
The first thing you want to do is clear up as much space as possible on the HDD. Then you want to do a disc defrag. This is called rebuild disc or data or something like that on PS4( because just calling it a disk defrag would be to simple). This will defrag your files and put them all together and also arrange your files on your disc so the system is more efficient at accessing data.
The most important things this does is give your processors a bigger space to use and most importantly files the processors are using for the game dont have to be spread across multiple locations( segmented). Fractured files greatly increase seek times.
As i have mentioned before, PS4 really struggles to handle ESO on a great day. The tech it uses is out of date and wasnt great when it was in date. It is fine for single player and limited multiplayer games( sort of) but struggles with MMOs that have a large scope. ESO is a resource hog anyway and even on PC on high( but not ultra) settings it will give even a newer decent pc a workout. Lowering graphics settings a little greatly improves performance on PC but you dont have this option on PS4.
The more effects and moving objects and fighting etc you having going on on screen the harder it will be on your system...any system. So reducing your participation in those situations should also generally improve playablity.
ESO like all mmos progresses and evolves as new expansions come out, newer tech and software is used to create the new content. If you play the xpansions in order on a PC using hardware monitoring you can see as you move from xpack to xpack a slight increase in load across the board. While the game does need some optimization, this is because its gradually evolved over time. The graphics in Summerset are quite a bit better than Auridon for example and even Elsweyr looks much better than base game zones. It has more detail and effects. Its like comparing a 4 MP camera to a 12 MP camera.
The downside is if you dont keep your hardware up to date, youre going to struggle to have a good experience but this is true of any software. Doing some HDD maint is about the best you can do without upgrading really. It might help your problem not at all or it might help a lot. Just depends on the state of your HDD.

Please sort this out.
Make that 10.
I decided to actually count how many people bluescreened in a VSS run we did the other day. Mind you, these were all different people, some with ps4 pro, some without. Some with great internet, some not so great.
3 Bluescreens on first add pull.
2 Bluescreens on Ice Boss.
2 Bluescreens on Fire Boss.
4 Bluescreens on Final Boss.
That's 11 crashes in one trial, often causing tanks and healers to solo their role.
