You are correct. Just verified they are not different.
Extremely unprofessional that this was not communicated with us ahead of time. Many will think they were banned or hacked as a result of the lack of communication from Zos. There is no excuse for such an omission. Matt Firor needs to take communicating with us seriously.14 -

✭✭✭✭✭This has happened to me before. I got a huge scare, thinking my details, including game account, might have been hacked. I didn't realise then that the account and forum login details are separate, so I panicked and changed the ones for my account, then when I still couldn't log in to the forums I was really confused. Now it happened again, but I checked and can still log in to my account with the old password.

And yes separating out forum has security benefits.
If same password was the issue why not simply state it.
"You have to change you forum password as it match your ESO account one.
Having two passwords will increase your ESO account security.
(forum security is a bit more broken than the dungeon finder)Grinding just make you go in circles.

✭While laws are different in different areas(when and if notice is given) if a breach occurred the company should immediately inform customers or possibly be held liable for negligence. Zos has a reputation for keeping silent even when it hurts them but surely this would be an exception....4 -

✭I thought I was hacked, so after this 'admin' reset my password, I went to the website and reset my account password again, and now my game and forum passwords are exactly the same!
Totally defeats the purpose!

✭✭✭I just assumed it was some automatic thing. Use the same password for too long or log in with it too many times and you get an automatic password change. It's not unheard of.
And like @lordrichter said, what used to be strong passwords ain't so strong anymore, so it's a good idea to update them anyway. His example was a little on the extreme side, but using a passphrase instead of a password is also good advice. Not only is it harder to break, but it's also easier to remember.
