NPC Costume Dyes

Hello everyone.

I was wondering, is there any mean to know which dyes/colors are used for specific NPCs clothing/armor? I really want to give my characters a color palette representing their alliance, and was thinking to adopt the colors of their respective guard armor, but don't know which dyes to use at the outfit station. Can anyone help me out with this issue?

Thank you in advance for your help.

No. I'm not 100% certain, but think the NPCs draw from a different color pallet. I suspect the NPC editor is radically different from what players see.

Ow, that's a huge bummer. Guess I'll have to Craft my own eyes palette then...

What specific NPC do you mean exactly? Once I asked myself the same question when I joined the Ordinators. I wear the holy Ordinator's Regalia, well, yes - a full Vvardenfell Ordinator's Armor and weaponry (Militant Ordinator motif) of the same colors the Ordinators are wearing in Vivec City. I've found it finally through trial and error method. If I stand by side of Vivec City Ordinators you will see no difference between me and them. Well, actually you will if you watch really carefully: only two parts of my armor are colored differently but still they are painted with the same Ordinator dye set. Vvardenfell Ordinators use a very limited dye set but still have some differences between each other regarding armor type and the order they dye some parts of that armor.

I could write it here to make it easier for those who wish to use those dyes on their Militant Ordinator motif, but I just don't want any non-Dunmer races and those who have not achieved the Temple Knight rank to wear the canonical Ordinator Regalia. The reason is the Ordinator Edict Mandate Seven: any member of the Dunmer laity who wears the Regalia shall be subject to swift and merciless sanction. Any non-Dunmer seen wearing the Regalia shall be killed on sight. Such is the price of blasphemy. So, you just find it yourself if you wish or find me online and show me your Temple Knight achievement so I could welcome you and share my knowledge regarding those dyes.

It's a lot of trial and error but can be done.

    What are you looking for?

Taking a stab in the dark, here ... what would happen if you used these dyes to represent alliance?

    Dominion Yellow
    Covenant Blue
    Pact Blood Red

the challenge is that dyes look very different depending on material and armor...most dyes seem to be "intended" for a specific material....

you can look up how dyes look on different surfaces on mmo-fashion.com

I'm specifically looking for the various alliances guard armor colors.

I also thought about using the alliances dyes (even though I only have Pact Blood Red), but don't know if it would be the right huge for what I have in mind.

Maybe some of NPCs have some colors which are not available for players yet. But it's easy to test it on PTS - nowadays it has all colors unlocked in template characters, so you can use any color and then go compare your look with the NPC look until you find perfect match :) Guards shouldn't have some rare, hard-to-get colors on their armor.

I remember when we had no option to test all colors on PTS, and I was very curious about the look of Fire Drake red dye. It was locked behind battlegrounds, and I didn't want to grind it just to be disappointed. But then I approached the battleground camp and noticed NPCs from different teams there - they include battleground-locked dyes in their costumes <3

I didn't thought about testing dyes combo on the PTS, I shall try that out.
