Lack of communication is a big problem with ZOS, they should also say what the fix is.

+1 for the poor choice of patching the EU server! Time for some is scarce. Re-think your logic, do not make the mistake so many others have made of annoying the community as you have a good thing going at the moment, why ruin it!

Early morning USA is not prime.
In fact this is scheduled downtime, much like WoW has had since 2003.

I couldn't give a single *** about prime time in the USA. Its prime time in EUROPE right now and its OUR megaserver that has been down for 3 hours, 2 hours which are in our prime time.

I didnt see any where that it was scheduled, just that it was additional from something that ZoS messed up it seems.

We have no ETA when it will be back up either. Its about time ZoS learnt how to commucate and provide a service that EU derserves. I dont play a full monthly sub to play less than other countries. And I expect a company to beable to commucate when service will resume.

Its the lack of communication that really amazes. These forums are a complete mess with slow response and no clear lay out. Even the dev tracker is split across languages and often a jumble of posts.

As for what Prime time is, I appreciate for unemployed people living in a basement somewhere there is no prime time. But in general prime time is when school/work finishes going on until the evening, the time that people have 'free' time. Its a long established concept and not relating to when I happen to play. And 19:00 is very much considered Prime time.

They had server downtime last night for EU and detected a problem when updating the NA servers. Obviously they detected something that needs fixing ASAP or they wouldn't have brought the EU server down again.

This attitude that they are 'screwing' with EU server players is worse than absurd; for all anyone knows there was a bug that erased your inventory or something so stop this b.s. entitled crap and wait for it to be fixed. It sucks when nobody can play, but it would suck even more to have a major issue come with the patch that we desperately need anyways.

Well, I'll just say that if my site came down for 8+ hours for "planned" maintenance I'm pretty sure I'd be fired.

Exactly. It's one thing to take the server down at 6am CET for maintenance, that's probably lowest use time there is. And the likelihood is that they patched a server, and found a problem, so they need to sort it.

All it takes is one simple message on the site saying so. People would understand. But just saying "it's gone down again" is meaningless.

Recommendation, please add a couple other mega-servers, that should help you minimize maintenance downtime to have minimal affect on all of us. Thanks.

Well being a person who does maintenance , i don't understand the broad unclear time frame they are giving. If you know what you are doing , you know how long it will take to patch. This is done by either just experience , or by first applying the patch onto your test / qat / uat system. I now have to conclude they simply took the servers down and try to fix an issue on the live environment without even doing it in their lab.

In the many years i am doing maintenance and patching , always outside prime time ; i never ever missed a deadline or miscalculated/guessed. I usually am done earlier than announced.

But , this is not new , it is always like this the first couple of months after a release , as if every single MMO is managed by newcomers.

I am in the group of the very unlucky ones , got in for 10 mins of play time :) and wont see the inside of the game until tomorrow , unless they will perform this stunt again :)

What I don't get is why they don't have server downtime and maintenance on the NA server from midnight EST to to mid-morning, while most EVERYONE in NA is SLEEPING?!? That way they don't really disturb most people's gametime.. Makes no sense to me that they do it during the day when they could be doing it at night when barely anybody plays. Unless of course they just don't want their staff to work overnight, which is totally unfair to the customers who pay their salaries..

This is bloody irritating. Two things that should not happen: -
    • Taking servers down for patching during prime time.
    • Failing to provide any updates or ETA's whatsoever during the downtime.

    Sort it out ffs.

People that asked to fix those broken quests should probably think twice next time, it is better to skip some quest then to not be able to play at all.

Could track how many players on on each day, each hour and calculate the best time to shut servers down.
    If they havent already.

lol at everyone telling me what the definition of primetime is. you are all totally missing my point. No matter when they do maintenance there will always be people here claiming its their primetime and making threads acting as if they are all important.
im from USA and my primetime is right now cause my schedule isnt the same as everyone elses but im not going to jump up and down and cry like a kid as if that will fix anything. everyone wants to act like they are all important and that they need to be catered to. im sorry but no you arent and no one is, we are all the same. we all pay the same sub fee and we all expect them to fix problems asap, except when they do try to fix things asap people still complain and cry. if they dont fix something asap then there is a whole nother group (or a lot of the same people) still crying . i get that there are certian % on at certain times but this is just the way things are and no amount of forum campaigning will change it

Irrelevant. Prime time is not subjective and it's not up for a discussion, it's a matter of statistics.

Current time IS the prime time for the EU region.

Its most likely an emergency fix .... Something that needs to be fixed yesterday they would not do this if they didnt have a legit reason to do so .... calm down get some fresh air ...

Prime time is the evening hours after the normal 9-5 working day. It is for all entertainment, be it TV, pubs, whatever; because that is when most people have free time. I don't care if you define prime time as something different; you are wrong.

People are more upset about the poor communication. When giving a time frame, "early afternoon" and "late evening" is far too vague. It just shows their lack of professionalism/experience/courtesy/communication/PR skills which are not confidence inspiring for someone like me who just bought the game 10 minutes ago.

Maybe those peeps expected the patches to be applied during the normal maintenance as is the norm for MMOs.

That server status is quite a funny place. It has posts from earlier today, that say the server is already up. Which is not.

    That's not a problem.
What IS a problem, is that the only notice they give about it, it 'server shutting down in 30 minutes', and then a post about "maintenance". Nothing about _what_ kind of maintenance, or why they had to do this only hours after _regular_ maintenance (and it seemed to me the game was playing fine in the period).

That's why you have rollbacks and backups. Backup first. Implement new changes. Test. If not working correctly, roll back. It's not rocket science.

And the "screwing with EU" comment ..... They are screwing EU customers. If they cared about their EU customer base, they would of had a european server in beta and had that already set up in europe. But they didn't and decided to have the european server in NA and do their work on it during EU prime time. Yes I know that it was "extra" work, but that should have triggered a rollback until they fixed the "simple maintenance" problems and tested it on their non-production servers.

keep arguing pointless things here...while not even realizing the EU server is back up

Couldn't agree with you more! I also work with scheduled maintenance and patching and I've never ran over our timelines. Everything is tested on non-production servers/systems and UAT'd befora final date & time is set for a maintenance window. And our maintenance windows are allways during non-office hours and very tight. There are always backups taken and rollback processes ready. I can't beleive that they're working like this on live servers.

Will not quote but you who says that they dont care about the EU customers should just put that notion away .... No EU players not so much Money quite easy to understand really but well some need to feel victimised . However i agree that the servers should have been based in EU from the get go due to latency and other things ...
