I'm torn between buying either the Daggerfall Overlook or the Grand Linchal Manor. Both are great spacious houses, but I just want YOUR opinions on them before I go through with purchasing.

I only have the overlook, may get linchal at some point in the future though. And I’ve scouted linchal out quite a bit...

Here’s my list of pros and cons for each house:

    Linchal
    Pros:
    - Large courtyard with reflecting pool
    - 2 buildings + access to 2 watchtowers
    - imperial style + imperial furnishings (if purchased furnished)
    - Located in Gold Coast (this is a pro for me cause it’s where the Dark brotherhood is and that’s my in game home away from home)
    - Main building lower lvl has a nice large entry hall, 2 mid-size rooms and a nice small room
    - Main building upper lvl has a nice small room and a large hallway/room, two doors for balcony access

    Cons:
    - landlocked
    - Expensive
    - Crown-Only
    - Limited purchase windows
    - Pathway around the reflecting pool looks unclean/not very tidy (not very imperial to me, looks more breton-y style of pavement)
    - Can’t get up onto nor walk around the perimeter wall :(

    Overlook
    Pros:
    - Decent size, small courtyard, watchtower, stable, barn and a 3-lvl castle
    - Gold or crown purchasable!
    - No time limit on it’s purchase
    - Lord title
    - Ocean area accessed by trap door in basement, can build a beach or a jetty or something
    - Breton style, good layout
    - Main hall set up perfect for one to build a throne room, with a small room off to the side
    - Upper lvl is nice and open, 2 rooms either side of the open area
    - Basement is large, just one room, has the trap door in
    - Feels medieval-ly
    - Located just outside of Daggerfall 😁 (DC is best)

    Cons:
    - smaller than linchal (at least that’s how it feels)
    - Can’t access the perimeter wall (annoys me with castle like homes, I wanna get up and inspect the outer defences!)
    - Must build up to access any kind of outdoor balcony.
    - Ocean front area is small, seriously zenimax could have at least made the large rocks the boundaries for this part, an extra foot or so could make a nice difference.
    - Trap door dumps you straight into sea water with nothing to stand on
    - Expensive (both crown and gold cost, least for me anyway I never get more than 300k before I spend never mind what like 3.7mil gold is it?)

I know not really opinions but these pros and cons can vary depending on people’s opinions, either way hope this helps you to make a decision.

Also I’d like to point out that Linchal is currently cheaper than it normally is but still expensive.

Ultimately it will be down to your own taste - while each of the houses has their advantages, you might have a personal preference that outweighs all other benefits and drawbacks. But here are some things to consider.

    Linchal Grand Manor:
    + large garden
+ beautiful reflection pool (but non-swimmable)
+ extra building and two accessible towertops
+ good interior design with several separate rooms (4 rooms and 2 halls)
    - more expensive (14,000-17,500 Crowns)
    - Crowns only and Limited Time
    - the house and its interior are relatively small

    Daggerfall Overlook:
+ huge interior space on three levels
+ has sea access with swimmable water
+ extra building and stables and one accessible towertop
    + cheaper (11,000-13,800 Crowns)
    + purchasable for gold too
    - garden is relatively small
    - interior isn't divided that well by default (2 rooms and 6 halls)

It also depends on what you intend to use the house for. Daggerfall is great for large-scale projects like a cathedral, a mage's hall, a royal reception room as it will fit larger furniture; while Linchal is better for smaller (but still very opulent) builds since the rooms are relatively small and the ceiling height is rather low in the whole house.

Daggerfall is also very suited for customized builds - the rooms are large enough to create smaller divisions or add new levels, and we have structural items that match the colour well too (my Overlook ended up with 7 rooms and 5 halls). Then again if you dislike large open halls then Linchal's more compact interior would certainly be better for you.

If you're planning on building gardens then Linchal is the absolute winner since it has huge sprawling gardening space with a lot of greenery, while the Overlook has a more modest yard that is mostly paved anyway. On the other hand if you're interested in a beach, a dock, a swimming pool or the like, then the Overlook offers you the waterfront you need for that.

If you really like Imperials, or Ancient Rome in general you'll absolutely love Linchal and the Overlook couldn't possibly fulfill that need. And if you're more into medieval Europe and castles in general then it's the other way around.

So it's entirely up to you to decide whichever house will fit your housing needs and your fantasy more. If you're really torn between the two, I would recommend checking out what other people have build in DO/LGM since seeing what great use others made of the space might inspire you to make up your mind. Just bear in mind that Linchal is a Limited Time Offer house so make sure you decide before it is removed from the Crown Store (8 days from now).

Edit: Lol, I see @Shadow_Akula beat me to it  I basically agree with everything he said.

Since everyone has already listed their pros and cons, I'm just going to skip that and move straight to my opinion, which is that the Linchal is far more attractive than the Overlook. The Overlook is nice, but it gives me a really generic, cold vibe. All the added rooms are great, and the water access is fun, but it doesn't compare to the Linchal to me. The Linchal is just freaking gorgeous; the house itself is a work of art, and while it doesn't have as much interior space as the Overlook, it has a much nicer garden, and I feel like it just has more creative potential in general.

Ultimately, the Linchal (in my opinion) offers far more bang for your back, and with the current sale price it's nearly the same price as the Overlook. I would definitely go with it.

I think both houses are great but I'd pick Linchal. Like has been said above it depends what you want from your home and which meets your needs and preferences the most. Please let us know what you decide.

I think that both are a bit of a pain in a way, because they are both too large for the item limit of 700, which to be fair, is the case with most of the newer houses ZOS release now. Linchal suffers much more than Daggerfall with item limit restrictions, especially if you want to do something grand both inside and outside, but both can also be made to look amazing, despite the crappy item limits :D I don't really have a favorite between those two, but I would say that Linchal has a much prettier vibe, whereas Daggerfall feels a bit darker and more gothically inspired, so it really depends what kind of feel you are going for in there too! I'm sure whichever you choose, you will do a terrific job! :)

Linchal leaves much more space for your custom builds (see the flat and square garden) while still providing decent buildings (barn and main house) to accomodate your crafting stations, bedrooms etc.

What @Elara_Northwind said about the styles is true as well - Linchal is much "brighter" than, imo, very generic Daggerfall Overlook.

I have Linchal (bought it at sale for 8k unfurnished).

The only real drawback is how remote is from any wayshrine or city (bank).

Regarding furniture, the breton furniture works better in Linchal than the imperial one, because of how the walls are a combination of marble and bronze/copper color. Actually, if you are unsure about this, go to Coldharbour's Hallow City inn, which is the same building used in Linchal. You will see how well the breton funiture works there, and the breton furniture is way easier to get than the imperial one.

An other nice thing with Linchal is the pool and the barn. You can have a nice crafting area inside and around the barn, also you have a large playground in the courtyard. The pool is nice, it really grabs the visitor's attention.

For me, Linchal is to pricey for what it offers. I dislike how the door to the tower is just a teleport to the top, where you can't do much, when they could have made some interior space for the guard tower/walls (there are windows, but you can't enter inside).

The Overlook was great, but now it feels dated. The textures are low res, and now, with all the DLCs there are better options, to be honest.

The property size to item ratio was my thought as well. The 700 item leaves many of these larger homes feeling empty either on the inside or outside depending upon how you decorate. This can be a problem for some of the smaller houses as well. It is for this reason I try to spend a fair amount of time in a property before deciding to buy. This way I can develop a picture of what it will look like after I have completed decorating and be less likely to be disappointed with the result.

I think the dragonhold houses are gross , the whole dirty aesthetic ruins it with the molding architecture.

I don't like the changes that are coming with Dragonhold and if they go through I'm probably going to quit. No sense in dishing out a lump of cash for something on a game I won't play.

Agreed, the color palette with the Khajiiti homes is awful, combined with ZOS's penchant for making almost every large house dilapidated and rubble-strewn. That's one reason I like the Orbservatory as my primary..... the broken bits are minimal and you don't have to waste a lot of slots covering garbage up to look neat and tidy.
