-So that leaves the immobilize. This will be annoying for sure, but keep in mind it won't be hitting you at the right time for the Templar at least. It will be immobilizing you when you are actively attacking, as opposed to when you are actively trying to re-position or get away. In that respect it is not very strong.

After ZOS did change DK Wings with the reasoning they had, then doing this to another class defensive skill goes with what logic? If goes to Live like this, will be the most oppressive and strong defensive (to being offensive in nature) skill ever.
This has VERY little counterplay options, and i mean realistic ones. Best option would be to just run away. Same as what was against DK Wings for certain specs and in the end ZOS changed that.
So.. why give a similar yet even stronger and more universal (not just against projectiles like Wings was) skill to some class?
Estimation: Templar will be the next big FOTM, most other classes will just have to escape or get steamrolled. Now someone from the back row shouts: "use purge kill them with dots!". Well, if i have to explain on how killing templars with dots goes (when you cannot really do any direct damage on the side to pressure them).. then, oh boy..
And i love playing both specs of templar, but this would make it just totally wrong. Funnily though, only good opponent against a templar would be another templar. Thus, templar would be so FOTM that forum tears would drown us all. May the Divines have mercy on our souls.

Melee templar will not be FOTM at all with Minimum 50% of the PvP Population having a 100% Major Evasion uptime, a big part of templars class Damage will now be reduced by 25% ignoring resistances, other buffs, debuffs etc. Maybe ranged templar will be but we´ll see, I personally think that bleedstack builds with onslaught will be FOTM since bleeds got massive Damage buffs but now dont ignore resistances but onslaught gives you 16 seconds of 100% physical pen so yeaaaah, enjoy the new bleed meta I guess. Master dual wield buffed again and Twin slashes increased by 34%.

You know.. you can be a templar and use all of what you just said. But with having the new Eclipse to put on your opponent while at it. Just saying.

If you are a stamplar that specs heavily into mag recovery then Maybe? Cleanse Costs 5k mag now, how are you gonna cast eclipse frequently when you also have to cast cleanses for 5k?
And a Magplar will not use bleedstacks and onslaught.

Seems you do not even know how most who have played a bleedplar play?
On my own stamplar i know i will steamroll people with this. To the point of being so cheese that i cannot play it to be honest.
You will see how it is when/if this goes to Live like this. Just remember my words then. Talked with some pvp friends, some have already specific builds in mind lol. You`ll see.

Well no I dont Play stamplar myself, only magplar, but whenever I´ve seen stamplars they Always used cleanse regardless of what they were running so they still have to either spec into mag regen to cast eclipse frequently or drop cleanse/cast it less.
And I certainly have never seen a magplar build bleeds. Maybe there is hybrid templar builds out there that do well and will do well with this.
Completely agree. With it being unbreakable, this is effectively DK wings reflect 2.0, except it shuts down basically everybody to varying degrees, and it applies for any direct damage done to any target, not just the Templar.
Unbreakable, reflects direct damage, applies a snare which may or may not already be applied on you, applies a root, and applies an actual stun.
Wings was nerfed because it shut down an entire playstyle, this is worse, and shuts down multiple, if not all playstyles.
Seems like everyone in this thread missed the "DIRECT DAMAGE" part,
Single Target DoTs (make sure to test on PTS those with a Direct Damage portion, if those count too, then it should be fixed)
as well as AoE's both ground and PbAoE will still go through.
Just use your brain when Eclipsed and don't use any Direct Damage attack. You can just otherwise ignore the skill.
You're welcome.

Most DOTs as I recall apply a direct damage attack before the DOT applies (destructive touch, poison arrow, cripple, etc). So basically the patch notes mean additional DOT ticks will not trigger the effect, but applying a new DOT almost certainly will.
Hopefully you were just being sarcastic about suggesting that you just not use any attacks while Eclipsed.

Eclipse: Reworked this ability and its morphs so you will now envelop your target in a sphere of darkness for 4 seconds, which harms them anytime they use a Direct Damage attack.
Their first attack causes the sphere to hinder them, reducing their Movement Speed by 30% for 4 seconds.
Their second attack causes the sphere to entangle them, immobilizing them for 3 seconds.
Their third attack causes the sphere to smother them, stunning them for 3 seconds.
These effect can only occur once every second.
Note that the sphere can no longer be CC broken early, but can still be cleansed.
Unstable Core (morph): Each time the sphere activates on the attacker, they will take damage. This damage increases based on the stage the sphere is currently in."
Are you out of your minds? Where and what is the counterplay to this? You either have a purge, or you become a punching bag. You can't CC-break, it doesn't give you CC-immunity, and can be recast on the target immediately afterwards before no immunity is given? What the actual **** are you thinking?
I know this patch is divisive and people are already up in arms about other changes and nerfs (I am too about some) But if this goes live it is guaranteed to be the most OP thing in the game mark my words. Templars are going to slot this in PvP and become utterly unstoppable. NO ONE is going to be able to win fights while getting smothered by this asininely overpowered ability.
"Just don't attack" is not the answer, because even if you could, absurdly, heal through 4 seconds of all-out damage from an opponent you can't put pressure on, they'll just put it on you AGAIN at the end.
You can't even pay Stam to get out of it every 4-6 seconds. You're ****ing STUCK in it.
Lucky enough to have purge? Grats, you just paid 5-7K Magicka (or 2K health in the Necro's case) to TRY to purge it, hoping it gets THAT effect. And after all that, assuming it does get the Eclipse.........
*Boop* oh look, it's on you again.
Why don't you just make it a 4 second unbreakable stun with no immunity so we can just lay down and DIE when it's put on us. -__-

Ez, It means I can't use 90% of my damage skills on my mag sorc ( Frag, mines, pet [ they deal aoe damage + direct damage], curse, fury)
How I'm supposed to kill this magplar ? Impulse spam ? ( Oh my bad it's also deal direct damage) ... what's left, boundless storm dot (500 damage per second) ? Or maybe I should use Liquid lightning/elemental wall and hope this magplar will stay inside doing nothing.
I hope it was sarcasm.

Bolded the part you missed.
I know the trend is to have a "build to rule them all" and people cry when anyone says they should slot a skill to counter something but yeah, if you think about it, you'll find more than one way to kill a Templar that gets all confy they can go all out on offense and forget about defense.
The problem is not killing the Templar, the problem is killing literally anybody with this on you. Read my comment again, Eclipse reflects any and all direct damage, regardless of whether you're attacking the caster, another Templar, or some random ass DK who decided to chase you as you're running away waiting for it to end naturally.
This shuts down literally everybody to varying degrees, when attacking anybody. Imagine if DK reflect was applied to you, such that any time you cast a projectile at anybody, not just the DK, it was reflected back at you. Now imagine that same reflect was for all direct damage.
That's basically what this new Eclipse is. A global unbreakable direct damage reflect mechanic, with an added snare, root and stun for good measure. Yep, totally balanced.

Sounds like the Old Eclipse from Pre-launch EraBoy I loved that skill
Now, seriously, do we know for sure it's going to work like you describe? I mean, no one has had even the oportunity to test it and see how it plays out.
