Do you teach or kick in dungeons?

If they're open to learning, I'll sit with them in there as long as needed (or until I actually HAVE to go; I don't leave out of frustration when someone is really trying. They're usually SO grateful and for me that makes it worth it. It's especially nice when the entire group pitches in to patiently help them as well :)

I got pulled into a vet Volenfell run yesterday at the last boss and the player before had apparently said some very nasty things to the tank (somewhere between CP 200 and 300), who was trying their best. On the final bosses we had a few wipes, but in between we looked some stuff up, explained some stuff, and in the end were able to do hard mode with a total of 2-3 wipes. I don't ever understand the poison that some players spew at others, but here 1. it's freaking Volenfell. Not like the tank was in vSCP trying to do hard mode; 2. two wipes. With the tank doing better each time. Seriously no big deal to spend those 5 extra minutes in there where the tank got a lot of fantastic advice and patience, which in turn will help them be better on future pug runs.

Think it's more that people aren't into Vollenfell progression runs.

I don't think that an extra 5 minutes in a dungeon counts as a progression run....

Wow, I just now checked this post and I’m pleased to see so many responses and that the majority of us at least try to help those who don’t understand the mechanics. Thank you all for sharing.

Will tell them what to do, if they can’t do it within a few pulls they’re out. I don’t have hours to waste on puggers I’ll never see again.

I feel being inexperienced is perfectly fine but you should at least read a guide to have some idea what you need to do and be a little prepared for it if you’re jumping into vDLC dungeons.

I will teach, try to carry, and then leave (usually with a "guys this is my last try" message).

I don't think I've ever initiated a kick except for maybe someone who dc'd and clearly wasn't coming back. I have approved a few initiated kicks when the situation was really bad.

    I don't like kicking people.

My CP810 Pet Sorc DPS has 31k health and 15k shields.

Don't let that fool you though, she can do some serious damage!

My first character was a Warden Healer (Started this March).
I remember I randomed into Cradle of Shadows as a level 40 or low CP I can't remember...

I was sure I was going to get kicked when this person started complaining about how this was too hard and everything.
The rest of the party ended up kicking her and we found another and completed the dungeon. We all learnt the dungeon together.

I looked up guides and copy and pasted them into the chat we tried different ideas. It took forever to complete that dungeon. But I'm more than thankful I met those people and had a really great time and experience with them. People who I never saw again. We completed the dungeon.

Possibly one of the best dungeon experiences I've had.

3/10 would do Cradle of Shadows again but I need the Velidreth Helmet for my Stam Necro.

Explain the mechanics but if people ignore/refuse to learn then I am sorry, I am no longer wasting my time so they will be kicked.

I see these posts on here from time to time. A legitimate, non snarky question I have is, what do you think serious damage is?

So, I was curious if your first response it to teach or kick when someone is holding a dungeon or trial run back?

I’ve been on both ends. I’m a returning player and I had an awesome pug group who helped me learn mechanics and I’ve had a pug group who never responded when I asked for advice and then kicked me last boss.

But, I felt good because I taught some new players some dungeon mechanics the other day to beat a boss.

I usually try to explain the mechanics after a wipe or two if it becomes clear to me the group does't understand them. But Of course my first response wouldn't be to kick them. That shouldn't be anyone's first response. Anyone who would kick a player simply for not understanding a fight should really not be using the activity finder.

In my experience - if it becomes clear a certain player is holding the group back they will nearly always bow out anyway.

In Non-DLC I dont care at all. But in DLC content I usually ask right at the beginning: "Everyone knows the dungeon / mechanics?" To this question there are possible answers with different reactions:
    • Yes (honest): Play
    • No (honest): Teach
    • Yes (Lie): Kick
    • Say nothing: Kick

This is more a communication test. Mechanics are explained quickly and force me to think about them frequently. Thats good. But people who dont want to communicate with others, are clearly misplaced in a MMO. An honest review of an innumerable amount of PUGs I did in the past 3 years is that less than 5% of given up dungeons are related to things like "low-dps" or "low skill". The vast majority fails due to bad communication.

I am a strong believer in 'teach a man to fish' mentality. If you teach a new player right from the start and show empathy rather than indifference and impatience then you are helping shape better players.

The more you teach and less you kick....the more good players you end up with.

I have never kicked nor voted to kick anyone ever....unless they were afk too long and it appeared that they would not be coming back in ...even then I like to wait to be sure.

Treat others as you would like to be treated is what I live by even in games

Got an experience like this at Moon Hunter Keep.
That was my 1st time and was around CP 180, was what ? My 3 DLC vet ? (Scalescaler pick was the 1st one and I got carried and teach by a kind tank)
We were all noob with around the same CP and 1st time.
We was very surprised to see how hard it was.

We manage to go to the mage boss (with fancy area) and get stuck here until we decide to stop.
We have play together 4h in this dungeon ! We all was making some break to saw video and read strat and trying our own.
But we was not good enough to deal with big werewolf in the mage boss room. We can manage the 2 1st one but when they repop it was harder.

Still a fun experience with these amazing people I meet this day ^^

    @Runefang

I use this character to solo vet group dungeons and run vMA, which is why survivability and sustain are at the base of the build.

I consistently parse 35k-40k on a dummy (solo buffed, no group buffs), which is plenty for that sort of build ...

I don't ask in the beginning of the dungeon if everybody knows it, I rather wait till the first boss and sees how it goes.
If we wipe cause of the mechanics, I'll ask if somebody doesn't know it.

I got no issues with people who never done the dungeon before and pug it. Everybody has to start/learn from somewhere.
The 'deal breaker' is how they respond (or not) in the group chat

If they are honest, I'll explain the mechanics in detail and be patient if it doesn't go smoothly. I'll give them tips, and give them compliments like 'good job' or something. I don't care how long im in a dungeon, as long as it's fun for everybody in it.
if they are not honest or they don't respond to the group chat. I'll explain the most important mechanics and shut up for the rest of the dungeon. Depending how it goes after that I either leave or vote to kick.

There are a few exceptions when i immediatly leave/vote kick
    - Person brags about dps, but dies constantly because of mechanics
    - if the person is just rude in general (or when you give them a tip, and they start insulting you)
    - When they are dd but queue as a fake healer/tank in a vet DLC dungeon (example: dd queues as healer/tank)

If my fellow group members are rude against the 'newbie', ill whisper that person and ask if they wanna do the dungeon with other people. If they say yes, ill leave the group, invite the newbie and just ask in my guilds or friendship list if somebody wanna come for a training run.
